My wife is a big Ilona Andrews fan. I requested this audio advanced copy for her. She really enjoyed this in audio, after reading it originally.

I love this! Anything Ilona Andrews ends up on my faves list and this particular duology, I ended up listening twice in a row (i just couldn't get enough of it!).
The production of this audiobook was great too. Not overly dramatic and I think it matched the tone and voice of the book.
Highly Recommended!

I will love Kate Daniels books until my dying breath!!!!! I missed this gang so much, I think I actually got emotional revisiting them and just seeing what they were up to now. If you read Kate Daniels, there is no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy these two books. The narration is great as well. I really look forward to what's coming next for the Kate crew. Great listens.

This book is a captivating and immersive read that hooks you from the first page. The writing is beautifully crafted, with vivid descriptions and strong character development that makes the story come alive. The plot is well-paced, balancing moments of tension with quieter, reflective scenes that allow the characters to grow. The themes explored are deep and thought-provoking, resonating long after the final page. Whether it's the emotional depth, the twists and turns of the plot, or the unforgettable characters, this book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys rich, engaging stories. Highly recommended

These are great stories told well. I enjoyed the narrator even though it was a different person from the series.

I think one has to read the prior series to really get into these books. I enjoyed Magic Tides because it was a set up to the rest of the series so there was a lot of exposition I found helpful. I liked the overall story and the characters. I'm partway through Magic Claims and I don't understand what is going on because those details are in a prior series. My rating isn't so much on the quality of the books, but my enjoyment of them.

I didn’t realize how much I missed getting new stories with these characters until I hear Magic Tides and Magic Claims! Absolutely loved it, and can’t wait for the next installment!

This is set after the first series, but this is a great starting point for a new reader since Kate and Curran have moved away from Atlanta and are starting a new life with their son Conlan. The idea of them trying to live a quiet life even as they are renovating an old fort to live in is amusing to fans of the characters. The kidnapping of the nephew of their head construction guy puts Kate on the road to let everyone know she is back. She wasn’t planning on introducing herself to all the major players in the area but she is going to try and maintain a low profile and it will be amusing once everyone knows who she is.
Curran is also trying to stay out of Pack politics but it doesn’t take long at all to show that it will come back to bite him and get drawn back into the Atlanta pack. The consequences of good intentions is going to be the death of their quiet retirement.
A fun story and I’m glad that the authors decided to surprise the fans with this novella.
This audio is a delight. The continuation of this series builds on what has come before but the story is constructed in a way that a new reader can jump into it with some spoiling of things in the past but great intros to characters from the past. Kate and Curran once again are riding to the rescue of people they haven’t met but desperately need their help. And the incentives that relatives of the townspeople provided doesn’t hurt either. An isolated town has been trapped and they must tithe people to a magical being and they are never seen again. The shifters under control of the magical being have never been seen before but are eventually identified as from the distant past. Overall, a good plot and certainly sets the overall story arc in place for more books to come.

While this is the start of a new series, you’ll want to read the series this book is based after, starting with Magic Bites. If you are a fan of Urban Fantasy you will love this series.
Ilona Andrews brings Kate Daniels back and it turns out she and Curran are not very good at retirement:
Kate and Curran have decide to leave Atlanta behind and start a new life near the water in Wilmington This is supposed to be a fresh start, no pack business, people don’t know who they are, they can just relax and focus on family. But one thing Kate and Curran have never been good at is not helping those who need it and when people need help they are the first to jump into action.
Any time Andrews is going to put out a Kate Daniels book, I know I am going to pick it up. They decided to release two novella’s this year, maybe to test the waters to see if a new spin off series outside of Atlanta would work. While these books were shorter, I did enjoy reading them back to back and I’m glad that Andrews kept some connection back to Atlanta in the form of some characters.
I think a change of scenery was what this series needed, not only for the characters but also for the storyline to continue. There is only so many times that Kate and crew can save Atlanta without if becoming redundant and let’s face it the last few books did follow a similar formula. There are some similar aspects here, but I think the addition of Conlan makes things different and there are different secondary characters that have come more to the forefront….. hello Kieran, I see you with your Claymore and whit.
I liked that Curran now had a full POV in these books along side Kate. I think readers have wanted this for a long time now and it makes the story more rounded.
My one with was that there would have been a hint of what happened at the end of Blood Heir, some sort of connection/timeline between the two. Though Kate does find out some interesting information.
I’m really hopeful that this will be part 2 of the Kate’s Daniels series and how the second novella ends it certainly feels that way. And I cannot wait to devour new books that feature Kate and Curran. If you enjoyed the first run of this series, you will enjoy this one as well.
Enjoy!!!

This duet was amazing. I love the continuation of that Kate’s storyline. The narrators of the audios were perfect. They brought you into the world and made you part of it and didn’t distract.

Thank you for letting me listen to this audiobook. I have to admit i haven`t read many Ilona Andrew Books. But I did enjoy these two. The second one a little more.

As always, I loved diving into the Kate Daniel's world. It's definitely one of my favourite urban fantasy series and I love the characters.
In these two new stories, Kate and Curran find themselves settling in new territory, but right back into fighting the unknown and protecting the innocent. This time they are joined by their son, Conlan in taking on new threats.
I thoroughly enjoyed these two new works, they gave me everything I needed; familiar chatacter, kickass fight scenes, and a plot that moved quickly.
Really looking forward to more stories in this series.

I didn't realize how much I missed Kate Daniels until I started reading this. Like going home to visit old friends. I love being back in Kate’s world and seeing what Kate, Curran and Conlan been up to since we last saw them. Reading this felt effortless despite the almost 10 year break in the story. The authors did an amazing job at summarizing what we missed while we were gone, at the same time introducing us to new locations and characters. There was just the right amount of backstory. Everything was explained easily without feeling like info-dumping. With Magic Tides being a novella, the authors utilized every single word and space given. There was a lot of moving plots and characters but never once did I feel lost or rushed. I loved it!
In Magic Claims it was made even more obvious how great it is visiting old characters we’ve come to know and love but this new group of characters were just as fun and interesting and I can’t wait to see more of them! You can expect everything you love about the Kate Daniels series in this recent addition such as; snarky banter, kick-butt action, humor and just overall great and engaging storytelling. I liked both the action and the worldbuilding. Every second of this story is enthralling. There is plenty of exciting action but, above all else, this is a character-centric story. I also liked that it was told from both Kate and Curran's viewpoints. It was refreshing compared to the original series. I am looking forward to more stories from Kate’s world, hopefully we won’t have to wait another couple of years!
Last but not least, I listened to an audio version of this book and the narrators both did a great job! It was great and I definitely recommend that if you enjoy listening to your books.

Omgoodness I am such a huge fan of Ilona Andrews and the Kate Daniels world. Just getting to come back to this world is a great experience. I have listened to all of them in audio so I started this set with expectations for them to be the same and they were not. It was hard to get into but once I got used to the people I realized they did a great job it was just different! Super recommend and can’t wait for more!

Magic Tides and Magic Claims are fun dips back into the Kate Daniels series. They are great stories even if you haven't read the other books in the series, but if you have you'll love these. The plots are full of action and the characters are snarky and smart.
It was nice to see what happens to Kate and Curran after they try to settle into a normal life with their son. Of course Kate has to help save others simply because she can. Kate and Curran are such great supports for each other and it was exciting to get dual POVs. The audiobook narrators were a good match for the characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ALC.

A really enjoyable listen. I haven't read any of the other Kate Daniels stories but I've heard really good things. I didn't find that my lack of knowledge regarding the prior books was a problem for this set of stories at all. The characters were fun, the world is interesting, and the plots of the two stories were very different. I will definitely go back and check out the rest of the Kate Daniels books.

Such a fantastic duo of the first two installments of the Kate Daniels: Wilmington Years series. As any big Kate fan, this return to that family and world has been a dream come true.
Magic Tides: This was like being with old friends, with magic, gore, beasts and slime thrown in and I couldn't be happier about it.
This series starts on the foundation of the previous series with a note of feminism woven throughout. That is, Kate goes off to save the world and Curran says 'okay honey'. He's a supporter, he worries about her, sure but there's no masochistic psueo-protective bull shit we see so much in these kinds of PNR/UF shifter series. There's no big feminist flag flying but Kate, Curran and others are all signed up to their own equality act and I love it. I realise I've gone off topic here, but oh well.
The story was strong, I liked Kate's poor attempt of lying low and her mission to save some kids. She's epic in battle and strategy as ever and the whole thing kept me hooked. I'd like to see some Julie if poss, even though she has her own series and I look forward to seeing the ex-consort and her beast lord make a hash of the HEA.
Magic Claims: So much happened in this book and any hiatus we thought the Lennart-Daniels were on is officially over and with a bang. No-one, nor Curran, Kate or me were sorry about this turn of events.
There was a splash of pack politics, some unsettling news about the Atlanta pack (I still want good things for these guys) and some super weirdo prehistoric characters. Erra and Kate's father had some feature in this book and not in a negative way and I was so pleased about a certain nugget of information making some Julie links finally. I need to see some future connection with Julie and Kate. Talking of people missing...does anyone miss the bestie Andrea-Kate dynamic? Because I do.
I really liked the character growth we saw from Conlan and the fact that he was less tolkenistic feature and more doing some stuff, around his parents and had a role to play.
In short, this was a great plot, I enjoyed the longer than promised length and I am sooo glad we have the real Kate back!
Excellent narration that really brought the characters to life.

I have loved the Kate Daniels series since I first discovered it. This is the first time I have listened to any of the books. Wow was I pronouncing some of those words wrong. 🙃 I love that Kate and Curran want to have a quiet life, but still want to help people at the expense of their quiet life.

This book was my first one from this author and thus world. These two books stood alone so I was excited about that. I very much enjoyed both books! So much fun. The writing was wonderful with developed characters and great conflict. The narrators did a great job. These were enjoyable reads. Huge thanks to netgalley and the audiobook publisher for allowing me to listen and review these books!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I was so excited to see Kate and Curran coming out of 'retirement' with a couple of new novellas. I was extra excited to learn the two would be recorded together in one audiobook. Its a cost saving maneuver since its not worth the expense for indie authors to pay for an audiobook for one novella. Still this one was so much fun and I love that Kate and Curran still keep the some personalities and relationship they had when we left them at the end of the main Kate Daniels series. No one quite does paranormal or urban fantasy like this husband and wife team. Kate is so smart and caring and I love to see her do what she does best. Magic Tides is the story of them coming out of retirement to hunt for missing children and Magic Claims (which is longer) is the story of something in the forests demanding the nearby town offer up some of its citizen's for sacrifices.. I won't spoil it for you but these are excellent stories and so much fun.
