I couldn't connect with the story.

The story follows two women and their struggles to move after the death of a loved one.

Ava blames herself for the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend. One random day, she received a mysterious letter that led her to the small town of Driftwood, Alabama. Ava took the letter as a sign and decided to restart her life. That's where she befriends Maggie.

Maggie never accepted her mother's death. Even when she took over her mother's coffee shop, Magpie's, she kept everything the same. Hoping that if her mother ever returns, it'll be exactly the way she left it.

I wanted to love this novel. I was looking forward to the small town and witchy vibes. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect with the story or characters. I also wasn't a fan of the slow pacing. I ended up skimming the last 35% of the novel. Overall, it wasn't for me.

***Thank you to NetGalley, Heather Webber, and Macmillan Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

I loved the multitude of characters! This book is all about finding your true self and accepting yourself. The curiosities add a fun twist to the journeys. With so many personalities, a reader would be hard pressed to not find at least one connection in this uplifting story.

I really enjoyed the story and loved that it took place near the beach. The different narrators were easy to follow. I liked seeing the stories of the two main characters unfold and the twist at the end was interesting. I liked how one of the characters seemed to always know what what happening before it happened. I saw a few of the twists but still liked knowing I got it right. I liked how the community came together to help each other out.

Over the years I have read several books by Heather Webber. I look forward to discovering when she has written a new book. Heather Webber always adds just enough magical realism to her books to give me warm and happy feelings whenever I have the pleasure of reading one of her books. She usually sets her books in inviting small southern towns where everyone knows one another. At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities was set in the southern coastal town of Driftwood, Alabama. Heather Webber was able to create such likable characters in her book, At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities. It was told from the POVs of two women. One was born and raised in Driftwood and the other was a newcomer. I listened to the audiobook that was extremely well narrated by Hallie Ricardo and Stephanie Willis.

Ava Harrison had just experienced a terrifying loss when she received a puzzling yet intriguing letter in the mail that mentioned an interesting job offer. The post had stated that a live-in caretaker for an older man and his cat was being sought. Ava had just experienced the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend. Relocation, new people and a definite purpose in life was just what Ava needed. Ava had developed a condition as a child that prevented her from living a normal lifestyle. In Driftwood, Alabama, Ava could reinvent herself, try and move on from the guilt she was feeling from the accident her ex-boyfriend had been in and perhaps live a normal life.

Maggie Mae Brightwell had lived in Driftwood, Alabama her whole life. Even after all these years, Maggie had difficulty accepting her mother’s fate. Maggie ran The Coffee Shop of Curiosities but still expected her mother to reappear and walk in one day. Due to Maggie’s belief, she chose to keep the coffee shop just as it was when her mother disappeared. Her mother had put her heart and soul into the shop and Maggie was determined to keep it exactly as her mother had left it. When Ava reached the town of Driftwood she headed for the coffee shop. Maggie was quite surprised when Ava told her that she was there to apply for the job of caretaker for her aging father and his cat. Maggie had posted a description of the job in the coffee shop window some time ago but quickly thought better of it and crumbled up the posting. How did Ava get a hold of it? Who could have sent it to her? Both Maggie and Ava needed to discover how to let go of their pasts so that they could each find happiness. Would they be able to help each other do that?

At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities explored the themes of friendship, loss, grief, regret, forgiveness, acceptance, moving on and a touch of romance. I enjoyed how Maggie collected curiosities and matched them with their rightful owners. It was a gift she inherited from her mother. The animals in this book were also given distinct personalities and I came to enjoy the parts of the story they were in. I really enjoyed reading At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities and highly recommend it. Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe is still my favorite book by Heather Webber but I enjoyed this one as well. If you enjoy books with magical realism, set in small Southern coastal towns and with endearing characters then you will definitely enjoy this book.

An adorable and magical story. The perfect distraction that makes you feel good about the world. The characters, Ava and Maggie, were very comforting and relatable. The narrator was great, switching voices when switching perspectives. This is definitely a nice cozy read. Perfect for someone looking for a magical escape!

At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities by Heather Webber
This story is vert heartwarming and uplifting. Another sweet story set in a small town. The writing is superb you get the perspective of both main characters Ava and Maggie. There are underlying themes of forgiveness and regret. I love the way the magical realism is intertwined into the story. Her stories are always beautiful and cozy the small towns in her books make you want to soak up the book without stopping yet you don’t want them to end. I will recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for providing me with the arc in exchange for my honest review.

As I was listening to an audiobook version of this novel, I was a little confused by the alternating characters at the beginning of this story. I went back, started the book again and once I had the characters sorted in my brain, the story took off. I love that so many characters found themselves and started speaking and listening to the people in their lives.

Hallie Ricardo and Stephanie Willis did a great job narrating this novel. I will look for more books narrated by both of them in the future.

This was my first novel from Heather Webber, though I have a few more of them on my tbr. This one took quite awhile for me to get into. It's pretty cheesy, and only gets more-so towards the end, but still, its was charming and a nice break from heavier reads. The narration was solid. I do look forwards to reading the other books that I have from hers. 3.5 stars.

A cute novel about finding family, finding oneself, and finding love.
This is perfectly feel-good and practically a guaranteed HEA from chapter one.

Ava’s pregnancy seemed unnecessary to me.
Maggie is only 38 and yet she is portrayed as someone at least 10 years older.

What I love about magical realism, and Webber did well, is most of the “magic” is explained…but not all of it.
How, exactly, does Maggie know what to give people? She truly is the heart of this quaint town.

It was an excellent choice to have 2 different narrators for Maggie & Ava.

Would love to see a series emerge from this book - centering around Driftwood’s other adorable residents!

had no preconceived notions about this book before I went into it, so I was a little surprised when the mystical/enchanted parts of it showed up. I'm still not 100% sure what was actually going on with some of the characters. I got that Maggie had a corner of her coffee shop where she stored "curiosities" that were waiting to be matched with "the people who needed them". These objects when matched with someone would lead the people to the path they should take in their lives. That's actually pretty cool. Some of it however, I felt like went over my head. Who is Estelle really? What is she? I still don't know.

The main character was Ava. She mysteriously got an ad in the mail that she assumed was from her dead boyfriend for a caretaker position in this small town. She has some strange abilities of her own. Will this small town and these quirky people help her heal from the guilt she suffers?

I would have loved more of the romances in the book. The epilogue was good, but I still wanted more of the development of the romances.

I listened to the audio version of this book narrated by Hallie Ricardo and Stephanie Willis. I had a problem with the narration being done is such differing volumes. In order to have it at a comfortable volume for most of it, I would have to stop and adjust for the lower male voice because I couldn't hear him at all. There was also quite a bit of very loud voices and yelling. That just doesn't work for me.

Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the gifted audiobook. All thoughts are my own.

Audiobook Narration: 4/5

Big thanks to MacMillian Audio, Heather Webber and NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinions!

This was my first book by Webber but that description that promised an unusual letter, a quirky small town and some magical realism drew me in. First off, I absolutely LOVED the narration of this one. The voices of the characters were slow and sweet and had me feeling like I was listening to the actual characters talking. They are a bit similar - so it might take you a second when first listening to be able to discern who is who.

Both Ava and Maggie were interesting with everything going on in their lives. I loved the small town vibes with all of the crazy side characters. Be aware that there is A LOT going on in this book. There are a lot of side stories and almost too many characters to the point I didn't know who was who a lot of the time. I would have been fine with HALF of the side stories or if this got incorporated into a small town women's fiction series.

I did start zoning out a bit towards the middle but then it picked back up again at the end to where I found myself just sitting and listening to see what was going to happen. Some of the plot points were a bit predicable but then there were others that had me shocked. But still the final plot twist had me a bit confused....

Overall, this one was a 3-star cozy women's fiction read. Definitely recommend this one as an audiobook if you need something light-hearted to listen to. It's a great filler if you have been reading to many serious books. Not something I would rave about but it was a solid, entertaining read.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! I don’t usually enjoy feel good titles all that much because they tend to feel too fake and preachy for me. This had just enough mystery and supernatural fantasy to stop me from feeling any of that. I smiled so often throughout this, and even with there being a mystery at the center, I rarely found myself trying to guess what was going on. Thank you to Forge Books and NetGalley for the ARC

Mystical, magical and emotional! This is the read that you didn't know you were missing. Extremely well thought out characters that are so real that you forget for a moment that you are listening to a book. The plot is out of this world perfect! Be warned though that you will ride an emotional roller coaster while reading or listening to this book. You'll go from sniffling to giggling and back again so many times that you will at times find yourself giggle-sniffling! The narrator does an amazing job of bringing each and every character fully to life and brings the unique personalities that the author has written fully to life. This is definitely going on my must listen or read list for all of my friends. I love that you get different perspectives of different characters while the focus remains on the two main characters, Maggie and Ava. The underlying theme of find your joy in your uniqueness is also a wonderful thought that more people should embrace. Every time I read or listen to one of this author's books, I think there is no way that she can top it, but this one is definitely my new favorite of her books!

I had a smile plastered to my face the entire time I listened to this book. Sending the biggest thank you to the publisher for sending the audiobook my way for review. I am a sucker for magical realism...but throw in a small coastal beach town, a coffee shop, and the most incredible cast of characters...it is just utter perfection. I absolutely adored everything about this book. I would love to be transported to Driftwood right now so I could have hot chocolate with Estrelle. Author Heather Webber has woven together the perfect story of small town life, magical realism, and found family and I can't recommend this one enough!! Definitely a favorite of the year so far. 5Stars!
