Thank you NetGalley & St Martins Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Boy Who Cried Bear is a great addition to the Rockton/Havens Rock series. In the latest installment, Max, one of the newer and youngest residents, sees a bear hunting their hiking party - only the bear has human eyes. In typical Rockton/Havens Rock fashion, this story goes in a wild direction you don’t see coming. I won’t get too much into it, but it’s another great book by Kelley Armstrong.
Book Review
The Boy Who Cried Bear by Kelley Armstrong
Have you read the Rockton series?
The Cainsville series?
Hemlock Island?
A Rip Through Time?
Most people know Kelley Armstrong as a YA author but she is soo much more.
I adored the Rockton series so when I learned that Casey and Eric were starting their own town in the Yukon I was eager to follow.
Havens Rock is different… its not the same as Rockton but some things never change…. The people of Havens Rock all have a past they are trying to leave behind and when the past catches up …..someone will die.
I loved this book! Binged it in one evening. I am loving learning about all the new townsfolk.. their roles and the hints of their past. This is a series I will keep reading indefinitely. I love how I can get lost in Havens Rock.
Thanks to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for my digital ARC in return for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own
I LOVE this series so, so much to the point that it is hard to start The Boy Who Cried Bear because of how soon I'll be back to waiting for the next installment.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC, and even bigger thanks to Armstrong for continuing this series.
The Boy Who Cried Bear is an excellent addition to the series: it dives deeper into the new residents, the mining camp, and our core characters in another indepth and entertaining mystery in the north. In this adventure, Casey and Dalton are on the search for a missing boy, and grappling with the impacts of families and couples being permitted into Haven's Rock, and how the Yukon and it's many dangers can cause more issues.
I loved it - and it continues to set the stage for future stories in the series, which I hope do not conclude anytime soon. Armstrong has spent years fleshing out these characters and plots, and they continue to impress.
Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley!
Not going to lie, I went into this book fully expecting to love it because I have loved the rest of Casey Duncan’s books. But boy did this one blow me away. I’m still just as fascinated about the world and the character and I hope the author has many more books planned. Anyone who has read Armstrong’s Rockton series will absolutely devour this book and be left wanting more.
I will never stop loving these characters. Reading this was like picking up an old friend, and discovering something new. Casey and Eric's new challenge and mystery had me flipping every page.
If you're a fan of the Rockton series, definitely pick this up!
I completely loved reading this book! I love Kelley Armstrong's writing, I love this series and these characters, and I'm so glad that we got this spin off series! There were many developments in this book alongside the current mystery, and I loved ever moment of it!
Haven's Rock is now up and running, and it's a bit different from Rockton. Like that couples and families are allowed, which is a different dynamic. That a child gets wrapped up into what is going on, yeah, that's a big crisis moment for the town and for Casey and Eric.
There was one twist that I maybe guessed as it was happening, because this is a mystery book, sometimes the simplest answer is not correct and it has to be complicated, was some of the gut reaction I had when it was going on. To be correct was a really good feeling!
This book continues on the with the plot introduced with the miner neighbours, and yeah, I'm really excited to see what happens on from here! We learned a bit more about what was going on, maybe, but it's unclear, and I can't wait for more!
This was a fantastic book, and I can't wait for whatever comes next!
The second installment in the Haven's Rock series, if you haven't read #1, do it! I love the dynamic in this series, comparing it to the Rockton series. A new town, new diversity of residents, makes for a well paced mystery. And so much potential for new installments!
Thank you to NetGallery and the publisher for the advanced copy in return for an honest review! Loved it!
Kelley Armstrong has been one of my favorite authors since I was a teen and "The Boy Who Cried Bear" just states why she is still one of my go-to authors!!!
