This book was about a cop case, continuing in a series of Al Crowe, which I had t read before. The story was interesting, and a bit complex, with a great ending, with some suspense.
A good interesting read. Al is a good man not the best husband or father but he tries his best. He has overcome so much but he still has some more healing go do.
Thank you Net galley & the publisher for the copy.
A solid police procedural with an original story pine. I hadn't read this series before and this was certainly a good way to be introduced. The plot moves forward at a good pace, the characters are well written. It has suspense, action and some humor thrown in from a very likeable main character. I will be keeping an eye out for the rest of the series
Yet another new author comes along and gets added to the ever growing list of those to look out for.
A good read and it moves along at a decent pace, with an equally decent leading character, who could grow on you.
Book 2 in the DI Crow series certainly packed a punch! Crow is back, after recuperating from a bullet in his brain, this time looking for lost dogs! His investigation quickly spirals into a murder hunt and police corruption. What a brilliant follow up this is, with excellent character development and a great plot. An easy 5*. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
A good read.
Crazy twists and turns which kept the story going on.
Would recommend it to someone who loves this genre of book
I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of The Killing Ground, the second novel to feature Bristol based DI Al Crow.
DI Al Crow is back at work after recovering from a bullet in his brain, but is not overly enthusiastic about his latest role, investigating the theft of pedigree dogs. Then an undercover officer, Vicki Brent, is killed and it quickly becomes clear that the criminal gang behind it have inside information so Crow is asked to investigate.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Killing Ground, which pits Crow and his son in law, John Larson, against an international criminal gang identified as Medusa. Obviously, pitting two men, their supervisor and occasionally some armed police officers, against such a large organisation, especially when they have attack dogs, is not particularly credible, but it’s fun and hugely entertaining, so no quibbles from me on that front.
The novel is told in the first person from the curmudgeonly Crow’s point of view and as he has a particularly jaundiced view of life and mankind the novel can be quite funny at times. He and Larson work well together, but that doesn’t stop either of them moaning about the other, well, the moaning is mostly done by Crow, Larson just rolls his eyes. It is a fun dynamic for the reader.
The plot is great, both readable and very moreish. I read it in one sitting and am already looking forward to the next instalment. It starts with dogs and ends with dogs, but covers a lot of terrain in between. There are, in no particular order, more deaths and attempted murders, double crosses, strange alliances, misunderstandings, a psychopathic killer and a mole. It is tense, exciting and funny, but never dull.
The Killing Ground is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, murder, mystery, great police work, a great who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
