Super cute multigenerational family story and a cautionary tale about going to the bathroom before you leave the house. The art was super cool. Loved it loved everything about it.
I had really high hopes for this book after reading the opening poem. I thought the poem was super well written and had the perfect amount of humor in it. I do however think that this type of humor would not be well received over a vast audience of people. I, for example, don’t really share the potty humor that this book has in it so I was not a big fan.
I found the book a little hard to follow with the way it was written. It was confusing sometimes to figure out where I was meant to start reading so I think that for a younger audience it would certainly be hard for kids to understand.
There is nothing that stands out to me about the cover. Some children may find this funny but I think there needs to be more added to it.
I don’t think I would purchase this for my classroom because even though it is important to send the message that “everyone goes” that this type of potty humor would be overwhelming and negative within a classroom.
I did not enjoy the animations and the art style within this book. I thought that the poem “Everybody” at the very beginning of the book was funny and well written, but I couldn’t get myself to enjoy the rest of the book. Any kid should be able to relate to this book as most kids do hold in their pee. I personally didn’t find the humour that great in this book. My three-year-old found some of sayings in the book to be funny, so this book may just appeal more to kids.
Thank you to Astra Publishing House, TOON Books and NetGalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A cute children’s book about being caught out and needing to pee. The underlying message is to pee before heading off somewhere. The story is fun for children and a great one for bedtime which is of course pee time.
I thought this was fun and more people should take the advice within the story, especially those people who think it is appropriate to pee in bushes and building doorways when suddenly they ‘Gotta Go’!
There is a park near me and men (yes men) are often standing in the bushes peeing. Read this book, grow up and stop peeing in the open. Go to the toilet before you go out!
Great book. Great message!

“Interesting” is the best word to describe this book. I imagine an elementary aged boy would really love it. It’s hard to follow the flow of the book super well in an electronic copy. My son would probably enjoy reading a physical copy.
Little boy humor for sure and good for kids who like comic style.
This is a lot of fun! I keep track of as many books as I can on this topic. This one is a great fit for older kids. I don't see why a younger, early potty training kid couldn't read it -- but the main character seems older. Perfect for kids that get in video game attention tunnels and have a hard time shifting out. Or kids that have a hard time with bodily awareness and don't realize when they need to go. The story is helpful and a humorous and normalizes things that can be really embarrassing. Not sure if this is technically a graphic novel, but it seems in the style of. The illustrations are great, as is the grandad/grandson relationship.
Gotta Go! by Frank Viva is the latest masterpiece by a well-known, award-winning author and illustrator. He uses a basic color scheme to illustrate a humorous book about a boy who learns to control the signals of his brain when they tell him it’s time to use the bathroom. Funny at a multi-generational level, this book is sure to amuse and enlighten the young and the young at heart.
Humorous, lively text and illustrations about an experience that everyone can relate to. The illustrations were particularly impressive.
My son loved this book. I read it with him and it helped him understand that when someone asks before we go somewhere he needs to go otherwise he might not end up having to hold it!
I adored the illustrations on each of the pages! Gotta Go! is all about different tricks to try when you really have to use the bathroom, but have to wait. The mother thinks about anything other than using the bathroom and the grandfather makes up funny dances!
The only thing I would change about this book would be adding more to the storyline for children to learn something important. Like maybe they would be waiting in line to use the bathroom (learning to take turns), playing with toys (learning to stop playing for a minute to avoid an accident).
All around, I would recommend this book to parents/caregivers of ages 3-8!

This is very cute book! I love the cover of if. Sleek and clean. Simple. This book teach us what need to do in case our child don’t want to pee before go out and what need to do if they change their mind and suddenly want to pee in the middle of the road trip.
It was a cute story with unique strategies when you "Gotta Go". Many kids and parents can probably relate to this book. I think young readers would like it.
I liked the idea behind this book and having a 5 year old that always leaves the toilet to the last minute it was definitely one that we were going to read together!
The story was ok, and she enjoyed the different ways that they come up with to try and stop remembering that you really need to go, she enjoyed most of it but she did lose interest towards the end and that is really unlike her with books as she is an avid reader and I normally can’t get her head out of a book. The illustrations are ok and it was a silly read in places that did make her smile.
It is 3.5 stars from me for this one, nice idea, just not one we gelled with, I have rounded it up to 4 stars for Goodreads and Amazon – would definitely recommend other parents giving the book a go!
