Monica’s college roommate, Kelly, comes to Cranberry Cove with her extended family. At a family dinner, Kelly’s aunt Violet dies. Violet is fairly old, so at first it seems it may have been natural causes only it wasn’t.
Several family members and associates have motives and despite Monica nearing the end of her pregnancy and all protestations to the contrary she gets involved. The situation will take several seemly left turns before resolution.
This is a good mystery. But an additional mystery exists as the book closes, did Monica give birth to a boy or a girl? She and Greg waited to find out. Dear reader the fictional world and you may never know.
I enjoy the Cranberry Cove mysteries and recommend reading this and the rest of the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Beyond the Page publishing for the review copy of the book.
With Monica’s old college roommate in town, she and Greg spend time catching up with Kelly. While viewing the fireworks with Kelly and her family, Kelly’s elderly aunt passes away. What everyone thought was a natural death turns out to be murder. Even with her due date here and beginning her maternity leave, Monica just can’t help but try to figure out who wanted the older woman dead AND managed to pull it off with the whole family together.
With a family full of suspects, and a baby that doesn’t seem to want to make its arrival on schedule, Monica is keeping busy. Can she figure out who killed Kelly’s Aunt before the baby arrives? Or will the killer stop Monica once and for all?
I love the story and progression of Monica and Greg’s lives in the story, but was a little let down with the way the personal part of the story ended…I still don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl! ITs a good thing Peg is such a talented writer and each book is a visit with friends and a side of mystery…each and every time…or I’d be frustrated enough to give up. Can’t wait for more in the next visit to Cranberry Cove.
I love this series and fell in love with the lovely cover. It's a well plotted mystery even it's not a fav.
I was glad to catch up with the characters and the solid mystery kept me guessing.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
"Berried Grievances" by Peg Cochran is the 8th book to the "Cranberry Cove" series. Maybe it's because of this and that I haven't read any other books in the series that I struggled getting started with this book. Also, being that half the book was dedicated to the main character's pregnancy and pregnancy urban legends, I just wasn't interested in most of it. I want to add, the whole struggle over telling someone that a different person wanted to throw a baby shower for her was a bit ridiculous. It's perfectly acceptable to have more than one. Especially if you have different, barely cross over, groups of people. Maybe that's my lack of knowing that characters that found that constant topic irrelevant to the story.
The mystery parts were well done. There was enough going on to keep you guessing, clue wise. However, in the end, I did have it pretty well figured out. It was also one of those endings I was a bit surprised the cops weren't more on top of things. It wouldn't be a cozy mystery if the main character didn't get herself in trouble with her snooping at least a little.
Monica and her husband Greg join her friend Kelly and her family for the 4th of july fireworks. They both notice there is quite a bit of tension between some of the family members. After the fireworks, Violet. the wealthy matriarch of the family, is dead, and it's not a natural death. Heavily pregnant Monica puts her investigative skills to work to try and catch a murderer. This was a fast paced book, set in a small friendly town. There are lots of suspects. a skeleton tied to the past, and another murder. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me this book to read and review.

In Cranberry Cove the owner of the farm store is a baker and is married to the bookstore owner. They are planning to build a home on some land they own near the pond and are also expecting their first child imminently (and receiving a megaton of unwanted pregnancy folklore). The first death is of an
wealthy old woman who has lots of relatives with expectations. Then a skeleton is found near the pond. Excellent sleuthing! A great addition to a series that I really like!
I requested and received an EARC from Beyond the Page Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!
This was cozy, festive, and twisty. I loved the setting and the inheritance premise, the mystery was set up so well. The sleuthing was so fun to read and although I felt like the ending was a bit predictable, it was still a satisfying end.
Berried Grievances is eighth mystery in the Cranberry Cove mystery series. This time we find Monica, expecting a baby any day, getting a visit from her college roommate, Kelly. When one of Kelly’s family members turns up dead during the Fourth of July festivities, Monica gets wrapped up in another murder investigation. Will Monica be able to get to the bottom of the mystery before the baby comes?
I thoroughly enjoyed the cozy mystery and can’t wait to see more in this series! I haven’t read the whole series yet, but have read a few of the books and this was my favorite so far. I enjoy the main characters and the Cranberry Cover setting in this series, this seems like the type of town that would be fun to live in (minus the murders, of course). I found this to be a quick read that’s as hard to put down and I enjoyed following Monica as she unraveled the mystery surrounding this untimely death. This is a cozy mystery series that I would recommend and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!
I haven’t read one of these books in a long time. While I enjoyed this one, I was confused by who the characters were, so I’ll have to start from the beginning. It did make me hungry for anything with cranberries in it.
A very entertaining read, with interesting characters and plenty of cranberries. I enjoyed the writing style, which is so easy to read and it kept me entertained all the way through. There is a nice small town atmosphere to the read, with lots of enquiries about Monica’s health, as she’s heavily pregnant, This doesn’t stop her trying to make sense of the murder of her friend Kerry’s elderly aunt. Some interesting twists and turns, with lots of suspects and an interesting mystery solved. .An engaging murder mystery, with a good cranberry muffin recipe at the end.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a new series and author to me but it didn't matter. I figured out who was who and relationships easily and felt right at home. It was also serendipity that Alaska has just moved into berry season, so the cranberry focus was perfect.
Monica and Greg, who are expecting their first child just any day now, are invited to watch the fireworks from a local inn. They expected a fun, festive event with good friends. What they didn't expect was to find someone dead after the fireworks ended. Who killed the elderly Violet? Why? How? The suspects are numerous and red herrings flourish. Monica, whose energy level amazed me -- heck, it'd tire the average person to keep up with her, let alone someone due to give birth any day now -- doesn't want to be drawn into to investigating but, well, she is who she is. After all, what trouble can asking innocent questions make? You already know the answer to that one. And, yikes, old bones at the pond?
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, even the ones annoying Monica with never ending questions about when IS that baby coming. Monica's character is shown at her reluctance to shut down plans from two different people to give her a baby shower, not to mention her persistence in asking questions. Husband Greg seems loving and supportive tho' his role here was more of the supportive husband than active player, tho' laughed at his mild panic near the end. Even the pets are memorable. Mittens the cat is pure cat while Hercule the dog is, well, a waggy tailed wonder who plays a big role here. Cranberry Cove, on Lake Michigan, sounds like a lovely small town, well, if you accept that everyone will know and discuss your business. There's a great deal going on, too, from farming troubles to suspected romance bumps along the road, not to mention, dang, will it be a boy or a girl?
Bottom line, I'm delighted to have found a new-to-me author to add to me "must look for list" as well as a new series to binge on. That cookie recipe sounds like the perfect thing for binge reading. Thanks #NetGalley and #BeyondThePagePublishing for introducing me to Monica's world. My dog sends a wag and doggie kiss to Hercule.
Peg Cochran's latest in her Cranberry Cove Mystery series, "Berried Grievances" is a Maine watering cozy mystery!!
#BerriedGrievances #NetGalley is a great addition to this series. This is my favorite so far and I couldn't put it down.
Monica and Greg are expecting their baby, so they join friends to celebrate the Fourth of July. The tension between family members is apparent, but when a family member succumbs to death, Monica can't resist investigating, even though she's pregnant.
This story was well written and I enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.
Monica and Greg are expecting their first baby any day now, but that doesn’t slow Monica down. They are invited to watch the July 4th fireworks with the family of a college friend, but one member of the family doesn’t survive the celebration. Monica starts ‘researching’ and finds many of the family members could have had murderous intentions. And she manages to do all this while running the cranberry farm’s bakery.
Monica and Greg are also building their new home on a small pond. Their dog sniffs out an old skeleton buried on the property and a long-ago missing persons case is solved. The ‘why’ is more difficult to answer. Could the two deaths, years apart, be related?
There are many red herrings scattered through the story and the mystery will keep you guessing until the end.
Another mystery is whether Monica and Greg’s baby is a boy or a girl. It’s adorable and healthy and all are happy that the little one has made his (or her) appearance.
Thanks to NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for the ARC.
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.
****Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review****
I jumped on the offer of this ARC on NetGalley. I love this series and this one is as good as the rest. I missed a few and now can look them up.
Monica runs a bakery using the cranberries her brother, Jeff raises on the farm. She’s married and heavily pregnant, but can’t resist snooping into a murder when asked. The suspects are laid out and there plenty of reason for suspicion, but Monica solves it after accidentally coming across an old murder.
I recommend this fast moving twisty tale.
I received this gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
Berried Grievances is the 8th book in the Cranberry Cove Mystery series. It takes place in the town of Cranberry Cove. Monica Albertson is the main character who lives in a cottage on her brother, Jeff's farm called Sassamanash Farm. It is a cranberry farm with a store that sells baked goods and jellies that are all about cranberries. Greg Albertson is Monica's husband who owns Book' Em book store. Monica has Monica's Cafe in Gregg's upper level of his bookstore. Monica and Greg are expecting their first child who is due soon.
Kelly Cargill is Monica's roommate from college who is staying at the Cranberry Cove Inn with her family. Monica and Greg are invited to come to the Inn and watch the 4th of July fireworks from the terrace. Kelly introduces them to her family. Violet Cargill is Kelly's elderly aunt; Edith Evans is Violet's longtime friend and companion; Aston Cargill is Violet's grandson; Ray is Kelly's uncle who owns Cargill Newspapers; Sherry Cargill, Ray's second wife; Beatrice is Violet's sister. They all watch the fireworks and when over they realize that Violet is dead, murdered by the poison, Sumatriptan. It can cause a heart attack in person with heart problems. The police are called. Tammy Stevens is the detective in charge.
Monica runs the farm store. Janice is her assistant. Michalis (Mick) is here from Greece visiting his uncle and works as a cook in the farm's kitchen. When visiting Bart's Butcher Shop owned by Bart Dykema she learns that his wife, Dawn, who works at the front desk at the Inn is Violet's niece. All the members of the family seem to have secrets and are all suspects. Detective Stevens is puzzled who in the family killed Violet. Monica, although pregnant tries to find out who killed Violet and why.
This is where the story takes the reader on an adventure of who killed Violet. There is so much that goes on in the story it is hard to put it all on paper. There are so many twists and turns that it keeps the reader on alert to the exciting and surprising ending.
Greg and Monica rush to the hospital to have the baby. The story ends with her family admiring the baby but the author left the reader wondering if it is a boy or girl and the child's name. I will have to read the next story in this series to find out about the baby, their new house which they are building as well as the next exciting mystery.
Thank you NetGalley and Beyond The Page Publishing for this ARC.
