From the moment Cori and Zak locked eyes across a crowded bar, they had no idea how forever tied to each other they would become.
Cori is a headstrong woman, overworked and underpaid, who just wants a little fun before she gets a job and moves to another state.
Zak is in the Reserves and is dragged out of the house by his roommates for a little fun and a bet that goes horribly sideways.
Cori’s romantic past and familial ties are heavily described in the plot, while Zak’s previous relationship was focused on. These two characters each had flaws that were smoothed over (rather than resolved) by the end of the story yet were uncomfortable to read about. Also, significant tropes throughout this story related to a one-night stand, misunderstandings, friends-to-lovers, and a surprise pregnancy. What was even more uncomfortable to read about was the stalking trope disguised as “I just wanted to apologize.” More than not, this wasn’t perceived to be a romantic story but one that had romantic undertones that fell short of an entertaining novella.

I found this book a very easy read with an amazing story! Very well written and I could feel Cori and Zak's feelings with how the author describes them. I wished at times that the book was longer so it had delved more into Zak's story, how he coped with his wife's death and what made him how he is today, however, I really did enjoy reading this book!
One night stand turns... more... way more. I like how the main characters personalities are portrayed. I can bet most of us can identify somehow with either of them. The ending somehow feels not complete. That chapter was funny but not long enough. I still enjoyed reading your book a lot and will totally read the next one.
Thank you to Yvette de Oro for letting me have an ARC copy of This Road To You to review.
I felt this book was an easy, whirl-wind romance to read in a couple of hours. One of the shorter-length romance stories I have read for a while. At times I did feel the shortness did make reading some chapters feel abrupt in places, but the writing style is entertaining and punchy, especially the banter between Corina and Zak. There were some great nuggets of humour entwined in the chapters that had me giggling and smiling as I read.
Out of the two POVs, I preferred reading Zak’s chapters as he was easy to connect with. He’s a solid nice guy (though he’s got some jerks as mates) with a heart of gold, golden retriever loyalty vibes, and gentleness that tugs on the heartstrings. Corina was a complex character – I loved her bad-ass vibes and strength, but at times I thought she was bullish in how she behaved with Zak. She danced around her attraction to him and punished him for something I felt wasn’t his fault. Their chemistry on the page was an odd mix of awkwardness and zing, but when they hit the right gear it felt like things would burn up at any moment.
I enjoyed the cultural representation of the Hispanic and Polish heritages of Corina and Zak’s families. These were cleverly described and fascinating dynamics were introduced through the characters because of the influences of their family backgrounds. This ramped up in the last couple of chapters and although the ending was a bit sudden, I found it made the last act of the book engaging to read and left me wishing there had been more of this in the middle section.
Overall, a hearty 3-star read with a good hook and unusual chemistry energy between the characters showing the line between love and hate is very thin.
In this quick and captivating read, we're introduced to Corina Beltran, a hardworking and underappreciated individual yearning for a carefree evening among friends. The prospect of connecting with a man at the bar adds allure to her farewell to the town. Enter Zak Dudek, a retiring reservist seeking a simple escape with a beer. Their unexpected encounter ignites both awkwardness and attraction. The protagonists' contrasting traits, Corina's vitality and Zak's reticence, create an intriguing interplay. While their dance around each other occasionally feels prolonged, the narrative maintains momentum through well-crafted dialogue and cultural infusion. Though the book falters slightly with its abrupt climax, it remains a captivating short love story worthy of reading.
This book was a fascinating love story and a fast read. I thought the plot was a bit rushed in the last part of the book.
This book was tough for me to rate. It’s not as though I didn’t enjoy it, but I just wasn’t captured. Perhaps it was the insta-love or the way they went from 0 to 100 in just the last 25% of the book. Everything that they both did and said in those last chapters was almost opposite of the people they were the other entirety of the rest of the book… bordering on unrealistic? I do appreciate the use of multiple nationalities and cultures used though! There was good banter throughout too.
I liked the storyline and its shortness was not a disadvantage like in some cases. Sometimes it was a bit confusing though. I liked how the main characters were opposites of character, the fmc being a whirlwind and the mmc being quiet and closed-off. The circling around each other part was a but too long and I don’t think I’ve ever read about someone who spoke this much slang. But all in all, it was an okay read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of the book.
