Ah, 1 room, 2 people, and guess?
And the ending? Guess?
Whilst this is a well worn trope, it all depends on the presentation of the story and the author’s skill in spinning it. This author did well. There were enough amusing moments to make it worth reading.
this book discusses grief and domestic violence. please read with care🩷‼️truly, and respectfully, this book just wasn’t for me! i did enjoy how sweet ella was and the small town vibe. ya can’t go wrong with a book with a dog… especially one named hughie. i really loved jessie, who was a side character. i didn’t enjoy the main characters together. i just felt frustrated by them. callum is grieving and he just couldn’t make a decision about ella. i don’t think they had great chemistry. overall the story line was slow, which didn’t mesh will with the abrupt and quick ending. it felt rushed.
This wasn't really what I expected based on the title. I think this was a well executed story but not necessarily a well executed romance. I found myself more interested in the relationships/friendships outside of the main characters romance. There was a lack of true development in the romantic relationship that just made it feel forced and unbelievable.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the perfect book to curl up with on a rainy night. The story flows really well and definitely has a comedic aspect to it. Anything that can go wrong for the characters does. I really liked Callum and Jessie, I wasn’t as keen on Ella - she was a bit too down-to-earth celebrity for my liking. Overall though I enjoyed this fun story.
Im not normally a chicklit reader but i enjoyed this book, the characters were loveable and relatable and it was an easy read
I absolutely loved this book!! I adore a good English setting with weddings and either enemies to lovers Rom-Com or fake dating trope. This book made me want to keep reading to find out what happened next. I could not stop reading this book. It was absolutely adorable. I am definitely getting a hard copy and keeping this one!!
I just reviewed The Hotel Room Mix-Up by Kathy Jay. #NetGalley

A charming read but I wanted so much more from this story.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
From the blurb, this sounded like it would be a fun read, but in the end, I did not finish it. The female lead was not very likeable and everything seemed to be rushed and relationships not very well developed. It just wasn't for me and I did not finish.
I loved the first half of this book, however the second half I found quite dull and ended up skipping through it.
This was really cute and I just loved the characters and the setting. I wouldn't change anything about the novel. It was pure perfection.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC copy!
Unfortunately this was not one of my fave reads so far. The premise sounds super cute and like something I'd eat up any day, but the execution just fell a bit short for me.
I did not care about the characters too much, and I'm not a big fan of the miscommunication / denial trope and it just made me struggle through it quite a lot.
As far as romance goes, this was okay, but I didn't feel an unparalleled tension between the characters either. I can't put my finger on it, but it just wasn't there.
3.5 stars
The plot line of this book is what intrigued me to pick it up. I loved the idea of the close proximity situation due to the overbooking of the hotel room. The beginning was a strong start as Ella and Callum have their meet-cute. But after a lot of miscommunication between the main characters, the book started to feel slow. Also, I was not a fan of the ending since it seemed out-of-character for our male main.
The premise and the setting of the story sounded super cute and fun. Small coastal town manor, lovely. The main characters seemed interesting at first. But sadly, the plot fell into a repetitive cycle of denial and bad choices. The writing was just ok, there were multiple sentences/parts that were just thrown in there-having no effect on the plot itself. And the description of the smexy time did nothing for me.
I wanted to enjoy this book, but just couldn’t.
I really thought I was going to love this book. It had so much potential with an amazing meet cute, and amazing setting with small town feel and great quirky characters, the forced proximity as they have to stay in Rose Cottage together because the hotel was over booked. I am a huge sucker for "famous" person falls in love with regular everyday person. It had all the elements, but something falls short, and I didn't enjoy the story as much as I thought I was going to. I didn't get the connection between the two characters; I didn't get the humor in the situation. The whole story came across of more a mellow drama of him getting over the death of his wife, and then we are thrown for the loop of his sad childhood. And we are dragged through her "OMG I am rich and beautiful and can do anything I want but I don't think I am good enough" monologue over and over.
I loved the setting of the small town with the hotel and the inn. I just felt like the story meandered through a story line and things were added a little willy nilly and didn't really give you a cohesive story.
Overall, it was an ok read. I am not sure I got humor or rom com but more drama and coming of age story. I think if I had gone into the story not thing Rom Com I would have liked it better.
This was a ok read but one that just seemed to drag on and on and on.
Maybe others will like it more than I did.
Definitely give it a go and see what you think ;)

Kathy Jay’s The Hotel Room Mix-Up is a delightful enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy perfect for Emily Henry fans.
Life has been anything but easy for Ella Swift and Callum Smith. They had come to Cornwall – separately – to attend two weddings and were looking forward to a couple of days in a luxury hotel suite. What they weren’t expecting was to find themselves sharing a cramped cottage in Porthkara because the hotel messed up their respective bookings!
Both Ella and Callum have got their fair share of baggage and they just want some peace and quiet and some time to themselves. Having to share a cottage is the very last thing in the world they want to do, but when a storm sweeps off the Atlantic and leaves them with no other choice but to grin and bear it, it looks like Ella and Callum are going to need to get comfy because they are certainly not going anywhere any time soon.
However, little do the Ella and Callum realise that they might have a lot more in common than they initially thought…
Kathy Jay certainly knows how to make her readers laugh out loud and keep them turning the pages late into the night. The Hotel Room Mix-Up is a heartwarming, hilarious, feel-good and wonderfully romantic tale readers will struggle to put down as they find themselves completely consumed by Ella and Callum’s story.
A superb romantic comedy sure to brighten up every reader’s day, Kathy Jay strikes gold with The Hotel Room Mix-Up.

Such a lovely story that gripped me from start to finish! I really enjoyed their slow burn.
Can't wait to read more from Kathy Jay!
I DNF’d this title. I tried starting it but the first 15 pages didn’t hook me. I’m sure this is someone else’s cup of tea but it was not for me
The Hotel Room Mix-up is a contemporary romance set in Cornwall.
Two strangers. One room. One love story.
This novel is a wholesome story as each character navigates challenges at a wedding weekend. Ella and Callum were vulnerable, honest and cautious. Their slow-burn love story overcame tough subject matter to be a wonderful story. This book is feel-good, easy read.
