A heartwarming Christmas romance. Sutton is a Scrooge and a hot mess. I loved the characters and the chemistry between them.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Christmas. I do love Christmas and a good Christmas themed book and this one didn't disappoint. I love the beginning of the blurb, 'Grumpy meets Sunshine in this hilarious festive romcom' and that is what drew me to request and read this book.
It is a book I read in a couple of days and I enjoyed and read in a couple of days. It is fun, humorous, enjoyable, entertaining and even a bit cute and charming. It is definitely a feel-good read, with characters that will make you smile. If you want a quick, fun and happy read, read this book!
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is a charming story of the growing friendship and then relationship between Sutton – who hates Christmas – and Gus Langston AKA Mr Christmas who owns the local Christmas shop. After Gus rescues Sutton when she drunkenly collapses into his Christmas decoration, he goes on to offer her a temporary job as nanny to his two children when it becomes clear she has nowhere to go. The core story is absolutely lovely and perfect for the run up to the festive season. All the main characters are well rounded, and the novel contains the perfect mix of humour, action and pathos. However, the only component that is totally out of proportion in a novel of this type is the sex – pages and pages of it. To me, it totally spoiled an otherwise lovely novel – and I think it should have been made clearer in the description, because it made it an outlier in all the gentle, sweet festive offerings on the market e.g. Sutton and Gus’ growing relationship is steamy enough to melt snow (or some such!). The amount of sex meant it wasn’t for me, and I deducted a star accordingly. However, the sex may enhance it for others.
This was very charming, entertaining and witty. Plus, the ending had my crying happy tears too. Loved it
An amazing grumpy sunshine holiday romance. This is hands down my favorite Christmas book I've read. I loved this so much it is the best book! 5 star read hands down.
I just reviewed Confessions of a Christmasholic by Joss Wood. #NetGalley

This was a cute and spicy book, which I enjoyed reading. The spice in this book was really well written which is always a plus, but the characters themselves fell a bit flat for me. It is a good book for the holidays, but could also use some improvements on the charcter front to make me more invested in the story.
Unfortunately this book missed the mark for me. I was hoping that this would feel like a hallmark Christmas movie, but it just wasn’t it. I feel like Sutton liked Christmas more than Gus did so I don’t understand why she was portrayed as a Scrooge. That was one of the things that attracted me to this book and was let down. I also feel as though there were a lot of repetitive parts. They just kept having the same issues and lacked depth and development.
I did appreciate that there was other love represented in this book like family and friends and how sometime that heartbreak an hurt more.
Thanks NetGalley for the eArc.
This was by far my favorite holiday book! So funny and cute. I definitely saw a little of myself in Sutton. Christmas can be heavy at times but there's always a little magic to be found. I would definitely recommend this book!
This book was just “meh” for me. I felt like I was reading it because I had to finish it instead of reading it because I wanted to finish it. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was.
If you love Christmas - this book is a good Christmas read. I love Christmas and this was a classic Christmas romcom.
There were quite a few slow parts and I didnt find myself falling in love or getting attached to any characters so that fell a bit flat for me. I also felt this book had sort of an abrupt ending.
I was gifted this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.
An enjoyable read, basically a Hallmark christmas movie in book form (although probably a little bit spicier than you’d get on the screen, and that’s not a bad thing!). I couldn’t really relate to Sutton and that’s the only reason it’s a four star and not a five. There was just something about her that didn’t sit right with me, so I never found myself heavily invested in whether or not she’d get her Happy Ever After. Cute setting, lovely Christmas vibe. Overall a sweet, light-hearted read. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher.
I love grumpy/sunshine! This book had all the wonderful Christmasy themes, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters and story. However, that is obviously on me and not the book. I recognize that it has great potential to appeal to other readers and I encourage others to try it out!
I want to start off by thanking Netgalley, the author, and publishers for allowing me the wonderful opportunity of ARC reading this book, with that being said this review is my honest opinion:
This book will give you all the Christmas feels! It was a women's fiction book that featured a single parent dad, a drunk and disorderly therapist, and a super cute band of family and friends. I loved seeing Gus step up and give her someone to rely on. I also love watching Sutton bond with the kids and everyone in the town.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC!
Grumpy meets Sunshine in this hilarious festive romcom that will have you wishing for a HEA. Christmas vibes were on point. Hallmark movie-esque. Predictable. A little spice. I wasn’t overly excited while reading this, and it fell kind of flat for me. If you are looking for a quick read to put you in the holiday spirit, this will do.
Found this quite difficult to get into and felt that the characters we're not as well developed as I would have liked. I ended up not finishing this book. Not for me.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute little Christmas romance. Sutton, the main character, hates Christmas. She winds up in a crazy situation and stays with widower Gus, taking care of his two children who are on Christmas break in exchange for a place to stay. But, Gus is the king of Christmas and even owns a Christmas store in town. But, things aren't always what they appear to be on surface.
I enjoyed this story and the characters. The ending wasn't what I expected it would be for a Christmas romance.
There is just something about a big ol’ grump during the holidays. This book is the perfect cozy romance with some good spice. You should definitely read this book if you’re into grinches and scrooges. Highly recommend
This book unfortunately was not my favorite. I think it fell a little flat and the main character just really got under my skin. I enjoyed all the Christmas atmosphere, but the story felt really rushed. The relationship between Sutton and Gus lacked some of the chemistry that I love seeing in books like this. Overall, it was okay but I don’t see myself picking it up again.
What an adorable holiday read! Confessions of a Christmasholic is exactly what the Hallmark Channel watcher needs. Grab your coffee and snuggle up with this wonderful seasonal book.
This was a fun light read during the holiday season. I love the humor within the book, it’s what kept me coming back to read. I didn’t particularly like how quickly they got together, just makes it seem a little unrealistic. I also would’ve enjoyed learning more about the side characters. Overall, it was a a good light cozy Christmas read for those looking for a seasonal romcom.
