I have regrets requesting all the books in this series because I did not like any of them.

The first one was okay, the second one was horrible, and this one started off so boring that I did not even want to continue reading. Which makes me really sad because I see so much hype around these books. I also fell in love with Kenan in the first book, but it didn't feel the same when I started this one.

Maybe Ms. Ryan is just not the author for me.

Obsessed is the only word I can give for Kennedy Ryan's stories. Hook Shot was no different. She has a way of writing such authentic and dynamic characters that feel so real. Highly recommended.

This wasn't a series for me but I suggest that you form your own opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley, Kennedy Ryan and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.

thank you netgalley for providing me with this arc!

i loved the chemistry between kenan and lotus in the previous books in the series but it was positively LOVELY to finally get to see it play out in their points of view. this book did not disappoint from the chemistry to kennedy ryan's stunning ability to write a steamy and meaningful love story whilst simultaneously exploring serious and emotional issues. this is definitely some of her best work.

lotus dupree is a powerhouse main character and definitely one that i will not soon forget. her emotional intelligence and ability to articulate what she wants and needs was such a powerful response to the trauma of her past.

"I have found the one whom my soul loves" I WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM THEM

THIS BOOK WAS PURE PERFECTION.
Kenan and Lotus had me … giggling screaming crying throwing up!

We had a strong FMC, friendships and angst and romance and everything in between!! and the sweetest MMC too.

Also did I mention HE’S 6’7 AND SHE’S 5’3?? Now that’s a height difference I want😌

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an e-arc of the rerelease in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book the best out of the three. I still found it very slow to get through at some points, but overall it was good. The relationship between the couple is very well done in showcasing how partners should be towards each other and past traumas.

RATING : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Kennedy Ryan has a way with words that just speaks to my entire soul. I love the way she writes these emotional, steamy reads that just grip you from the first word to the very last! Hook Shot had me “hooked” from the second I started reading it and I devoured the entire thing in a little under a day!

Lotus and Keenan were a story I was looking forward to since Long Shot, and even though I I knew I would love them, they still blew me away!

I loved Keenan, and I loved how he always had this simmering attraction to Lotus that he never acted on until the timing was right. I loved the way he and Lotus feel for each other, their dates and the way they opened up. And Lotus, that woman is a marvel, she was such a survivor and I loved how she handled her trauma.

And then there was the spice, which packed a punch but was still so real and raw!

This book is a masterpiece. Absolutely fantastic.

Thank you netgalley, and Kennedy Ryan for the ARC.

I was finally able to put my finger on what didn’t work for me with this series in this book.

As usual, I really liked the characters- Kenan and Lotus are unique and robustly developed, they feel very real and not at all like cardboard cutouts. Their chemistry together works and the story was well plotted for the most part.

What doesn’t work for me is this:

- the main characters in this book, and in the two preceding books, spend WAY too much time apart. They aren’t on page together enough for it to feel like a romance for me. This is personal preference, but this series over all reads more like women’s fiction to me than a true romance. The characters develop separately and independently rather than changing/growing together, and while that works for the story it isn’t what I look for in romance. I want the main characters to become a unit and grow off of each others and help each other develop in some way

- the conversations between characters are SO LONG and incredibly banal. That is not something I’d ever thought I’d say- I generally love conversation that moves the plot forward. But Kennedy really writes entire “get to know you” conversations that are not particularly fun to read- they read like actual conversations in real life, which is great if you’re one of the people HAVING the conversation, but very mind numbing if you’re an outside observer. There is a scene in this book where the main characters go out to dinner, and the ENTIRE CHAPTER is their dinner conversation, where we learn absolutely nothing new about either character. The reader already knows everything the characters share about themselves from their own internal dialogue earlier in the book. This is something that happens in some form through out the entire series. It makes me feel like I’m watching someone else’s home movies rather than reading an entertaining book. So much of their conversations could be implied, it is not necessary for the reader to know *every single word* the characters ever say to one another.

While I can appreciate that Kennedy is a good writer and these books were well written, I’m not sure I’d ever pick up another one of her books when I’m in the mood for romance.

Love this series sooo much. I absolutely fell in love with Kennedy Ryans writing. I did enjoy Long Shot a bit more but this was still great!

If you're looking for a love story that will stir your soul, make you laugh, and bring tears to your eyes, "Hook Shot" is an absolute must-read. Ryan's ability to craft emotionally resonant narratives shines brightly in this captivating tale of love, redemption, and the enduring power of the human heart. Lotus and Kenan's story has to be my favorite.

ARC received for review

Kenan's ex is a piece of work. I was ready for her to go, but it sure took a long time. Lotus was amazing for him and his daughter.

Enjoyable, with some darker themes that were dealt with well.

In this final installment of the Hoops Series, we get the same romance and emotion as in the previous two books. This story focuses on Lotus and Kenan, how their relationship develops after meeting through mutual friends, and how they get through their emotional pasts to achieve what they have been working towards and to be in a committed relationship. It's an interesting read from start to finish.

“There is no place, no spot on the continuum of time that could have hidden this man from me.”

Kenan and Lotus are absolutely precious. But wow, does Kennedy Ryan have the ability to send me into tears before healing my heart. I read this in a haze from midnight until 4 am, so it's fair to say that some of my tears may be due to that. But regardless, Lo and Kenan have had this undeniable chemistry since they met in Long Shot and seeing that come to fruition was a delight. They're both in NYC and Kenan is tapped to be an arm model (watches) for the fashion guy that Lo works for. The timing of the two of them reconnecting seems inconvenient, well, it is arguably inconvenient. Lo is "off dick" because she's experiencing a lot of trauma responses associated with sex at the moment, even though that didn't used to be a thing for her. And Kenan is in NYC because he and his wife split after he caught her cheating on him with one of his teammates (rude) and he, the ex, and their kid are doing family therapy to try and make things okay for Simone (daughter). The two of them need simple and both of them have felt this pull toward one another since they met in Long Shot that lets them know it absolutely would not be simple between the two of them.

In a lot of ways, this book is really heavy. There's such a focus on healing for Lotus especially, but also to an extent with Kenan. There are really complex family dynamics that are being dealt with on both sides at times throughout this book. This is not an easy breezy beautiful book to read, but the heavy topics are accompanied by a lot of joy and laughter too. For me, Kennedy's books work so well for me because when I'm ready to have my heart broken, she makes sure I walk away with it put back together. This is not a reading experience for everyone, but it is twelve hundred percent a reading experience for me.

Lotus Dupree, ladies and gentlemen.

Once again, Kennedy Ryan takes two people who have been through so much and makes them so perfect for each other that it almost hurts your heart, all while handling the most sensitive of topics with the gentlest hands possible.

I absolutely love Kennedy's writing style, and I only regret not finding her books sooner!

I like the twist on the single-dad trope wherein, most of the time, the dad is looking for something serious because he has to think about his child; however, Keenan is looking for just a bit of (responsible) fun after spending most of his adult life in a loveless marriage or highly contentious divorce. Lotus, after an adulthood spent hooking up as a way to guard her heart, is thinking maybe she is ready for a serious commitment. I love that Lotus and Keenan didn't just break down each other's walls, but used the pieces of those walls to create a foundation for a wonderful life together.

I really didn’t want this series to end because I love Kennedy, Ryan, and her writing these characters are hard not to love. I definitely recommend starting with longshot even though these are all interconnected books, just appreciate the finale that much more highly recommend five stars all the way!

Hook Shot is the final book in the Hoops series by Kennedy Ryan. Kenen Ross was a divorced, single dad in the final years of his basketball career. Lotus Dupree was eleven years younger and working in the New York fashion scene. They met and were drawn to each other, despite each having no plans to trust and let anyone in. Kenan moved to New York to be near his daughter for the summer, and the two were unable to avoid the attraction they felt for one another. The question that remained: was it enough to break down their walls and truly let each other in? This was an excellent conclusion to the Hoops series, books that dealt with difficult issues and overcoming adversity to find love. The challenges for Kenan and Lotus were significant, but their chemistry was undeniable and their story impossible to resist. I thoroughly enjoyed this age-gap romance which was full of emotion, and snark, and a delicious happy ending. I definitely recommend this book and series to readers of contemporary romance. I don’t think that one can ever go wrong with a book by Kennedy Ryan, and this book is a perfect example of that. I am voluntarily submitting this honest review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks, Bloom Books.

She's not the plan he made, but she's the risk he has to take.

A single, divorced dad in the final years of his basketball career, Kenan Ross's perfect life has blown up in his face. He's still picking up the pieces when he meets Lotus DuPree. A wildflower. A storm. A kick to his gut and a wrench in his plans from the moment their eyes meet. He promised himself he'd never trust a woman again, but he's never wanted anyone the way he wants Lo.

At twenty-five, Lotus is finally living out her dream, becoming a force in New York's fashion scene. Focused on her future and not looking for love, she's seen where trusting a man leaves you. Kenan is the last thing she needs. But from the moment they meet, she's drawn in, even if he's eleven years her senior and her opposite in every way.

When Kenan moves to New York for the summer to be near his daughter, Lotus can no longer avoid the attraction that pulses between them—but she still won't let him in. Not after what she's been through. Except Kenan wants her so badly, he'll do anything to knock down her defenses.

He won't give up on her…and soon, she's no longer sure she wants him to.

Kennedy Ryan has a lovely way of blending her characters, and their in depth backgrounds together into a wonderfully romantic story that indeed does have basketball in it, but manages to not have the main focus. I was intrigued by Lotus and Kenan's relationship and what it could be when I read Long Shot, and I was pleased to read this book. Although it didn't touch my soul as deeply as the first book did, it did keep my interest from beginning to end. Lotus truly dealing with her past trauma, forgiving her mother and truly overcoming it is amazing, especially considering that the book acknowledges many paths that mental health help can take when it comes to weekly meetings with other survivors, and regular meetings with an actual therapist. This book was worth the read, but did deal with sexual assault/rape, along with a suicide attempt, so if those are trigger warnings for you, I would avoid this book.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.
