The story of a woman who writes letters to all potential matches for dna to be her father, and then one writes back claiming to be her biological father! A classic thriller. I loved it.

The Wrong Family by Ellery A. Kane is about a woman named Hallie who never knew her real father. She sends letters to every single person she can find with the name of her father, Robert Thompson. One day when a DNA matches her to her father, she feels like it’s almost too good to be true. He invites her to stay with his family for the week in Lake Tahoe. When weird things start happening, Hallie can’t help but wonder if she’s in danger. Is this truly the family she always dreamed of or is she being tricked by something more sinister?

I’ll be honest, when I first requested this book, I thought it was a different author that I had read before but turns out this was new-to-me author! I will say— overall I did enjoy this book and I read through it pretty quickly once I started.

One thing I really enjoyed with this book was the response letters she sent to potential men that could be her father that came up every few chapters. It was interesting to see the different responses that she received back from the people named Robert Thompson that were not her father.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

One thing that was kind of bothered me was that in the end it left you a little on a cliffhanger by telling you that there was a match for her father but you never get to find out who it is. It kind of felt anticlimactic considering that there were all those letters and men submitting their DNA to Family ties.

Also, something that didn’t make sense was the character Jay (which I figured out who he was very very early on). They made him seem like he was evil and horrible but it was confusing because everything he went through because of the family to me— made it all seemed a bit justified. Natalie to me seemed like the true villain. I also really never understood why Hallie defended this fake family in the end and not tell the truth. She did annoy me a bit throughout the book because it seemed like red flag after red flag and she just put her blinders on to it all. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the ending of this book. And the ending (and really last 10% or so of the book), is what warranted a 3 star review for this book.

Set in Lake Tahoe, this story follows the affluent Thompsons, who live a life of luxury and privilege. Hallie, the main character, has been searching for her father for years, and unexpectedly, she gets a match on a DNA website. To her shock, it’s Robert Thompson. As Hallie digs deeper, she begins to notice inconsistencies between her mother’s story and the reality of who her father is. As she settles into her new life with her "new family," Hallie starts questioning who she can truly trust. But Hallie herself is hiding secrets, and it’s only a matter of time before her lies catch up with her.

I couldn’t put this book down! The author did an excellent job of developing the characters, and the story flowed smoothly, keeping me hooked from start to finish. Even though a lot happens, it was easy to follow. Normally, I can predict the ending, but this time, I was completely blindsided by the twist at the end!

I have to admit, Natalie really frustrated me! Every time she spoke or mentioned her followers, I just wanted to pull my hair out.
On a positive note, I really enjoyed the romance with Nick! I just wish there was more of it. The cliffhanger at the end was killer—I’m dying to know what it said!

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, this book is definitely a must-read!

First of all, I’d like to thank NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the idea behind the book and the setting. But honestly it was just okay, not something very wowing. I enjoyed it and read it quite quickly, but had higher hopes for it. Still I think it was well written and the character development was good.
In my opinion it could have had a little more to it.

I didn't hate it, but the tagline and blurb implies a much twisty-er book. So meh. I wanted more from it and it was predictable.

This story was interesting. Hallie the main characters is on the search to find her biological father. She goes on writing letters to more 100 potential candidates. Finally she finds her father. But things don’t really go as plan for Hallie. She wants to fit in and be loved and liked but this time is definitely the wrong people.

This book had me engaged from the very first chapter to the ending.

I was interested in this novel by Ellery Kane due to the subject matter. Hallie is looking for her father and connects with him via a genetics testing company. She is invited to stay with him and his family in his luxurious home in Lake Tahoe. Very quickly Hallie feels like an outsider and things start to feel strange. Robert, her father is excited to have her in his home, but the rest of the family is less so. Hallie quickly becomes part of the family and the family business. Things start to go wrong and everyone starts pointing fingers at Hallie. Hallie must figure out what is going on before her past catches up with her. This thriller is a little slow to start, but the last 40% read very quickly. For fans of suspense!

I whizzed through this one and really enjoyed it. Hallie has been left with nothing, and starts writing to every Robert who could be her father. The replies are peppered throughout the book. Eventually, one Robert Thompson sweeps in, and whisks her off onto a family holiday, where not only does she meet her new family, but also to fitful her dream as working as a chef. But, this family seem to be hiding a lot of skeletons in their closets..oh, and in one closet a literal loaded gun. Enjoyed this a lot and will definitely be picking up more by Ellery Kane

Hallie Sherman never seems to catch a break. After losing her mother at a young age, she’s moved from one foster home to another, until she was old enough to live on her own. But even that isn’t proving to be successful as Hallie loses one job after another, and no job equals no money to pay rent. But she’s decided that the time has come to find the father that she’s never known. The only information she has is that his name is Robert Thompson. She sends off her DNA to a matching establishment called Family Ties and hopes for the best. And sure enough, just as her life hits rock bottom, she gets a match and literally goes from rags to ritches overnight! It’s quite the adjustment: from living in her car, she’s whisked away to a life of wealth and comfort in Lake Tahoe! And although her new-found father Robert and his wife Shelly are warm and welcoming, her new siblings, Natalie and Logan, are not as charmed by the sudden appearance of an unknown sister in their pampered world.
Spoilt, bratty ‘influencer’ Natalie (I was picturing Schitts Creek’s Alexis Rose here) seems especially unimpressed to have Hallie around, disrupting her life and bumping her out of her prime position as ‘Daddy’s Girl’. While Hallie struggles to find her feet in her unfamiliar surroundings, some very odd things start to happen around the Thompson home. Is it a coincidence that these strange events only began after Hallie arrived? Some people don’t seem to think so, and Hallie begins to wonder if the paradise she’s found herself in, is the answer to her problems after all, or perhaps the start of a whole lot of new complications. Whatever it is, she wonders if someone could be targeting her, but can’t imagine why.
Loved it

I did enjoy this book….all about Hallie who is desperate to find her family and finds herself a new family as well. But us all as it seems or have things gone horribly wrong!? This was a good story and I had no idea where it was going or how it was going to end. It was a little slow in parts but I raced through the last few chapters. I wasn’t sure of the ending though.

This is a perfectly <i>fine</in> entertaining book. The revelations aren't really provocative or shock inducing. What revelations do happen, its known early on and its only a matter of all the involved parties to confront. It is easy to get absorbed into procedural like writing, with plot moving in anticipated pace.
