Fern loved her husband, Drew, but he betrayed her and now he's dead. She just bought a luxurious new home with his life insurance money, hoping for better days. Her new man, Roger is just what she needs right now: spontaneous, romantic, and, most of all, honest. Everything is perfect until he says something that makes her think he may know her secret...
This psychological thriller is the sequel to The Doctor's Wife. First person multiple POVs (Fern, Greg, Alice, Tomlin). Was the sequel necessary? No. Could it have been a short story or an extended epilogie? Absolutely. Did I still enjoy it? Yes. It's a quick and entertaining read if you are willing to suspend disbelief and to accept that the characters are one dimentional. A quick note: I am not against a little foreshadowing, but things like "Little did, I know, but I wasn't the only one" at the end of a chapter are so unoriginal and really annoy me. The characters motivations were weak (at best). The first part of the book was much more interesting than the second. And I was also expecting a more mindblowing twist, instead of that kinda meh one... With the ending, I figure there will be a third book in the series, which I will pick up because although it doesn't necessarily end on a cliff hanger, I'm curious to find out how Fern will get out of that one.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

“Things are very different now that I am the doctor’s widow.”
This sequel got off to an exciting start; the writing was fresh and the pace was quick. The prologue set the tone and raised questions that propelled me into the heart of the story. I had so many questions that needed answers!
Once I realized that this was a case of the player getting played, I was shamefully excited to see if Fern got her just desserts. A string of questionable deaths and a sizeable life insurance policy created problems for Fern.
I loved how Fern Devlin, the doctor’s wife, came across as a Cheshire cat with a big grin. I knew that the confidence Hurst had crafted her with would be her downfall and I couldn’t wait to find out how.
“I am doing even better as the doctor’s widow than I was as the doctor’s wife.”
“I’m moving on from Doctor Drew Devlin and feeling much better about this next chapter of my life.”
The theme of control, retribution, illusion, and moving on were woven throughout the story. I loved watching the widow, the tennis buddy and the mistress all trying to keep up the veneer of deception.
However, the writing style of the prologue didn’t carry through to the rest of the book. So much so, that I wondered if Hurst was still writing or if he’d handed the reins to someone else.
I’ve loved all of Hurst’s books, but I felt this one lacked emotion. Many events could have been elevated by more emotional responses, but where I was shocked the most was the event in 6E. THAT should have had more tension, fear, and panic. Was it due to the lack of dialogue tags? Perhaps. Written in first person, though, you’d expect more feeling or passion. It was as though the characters were simply reporting what happened. In addition to emotion, I felt the characters weren’t unique enough; they all sounded the same. There was no individual voice. I thought this odd, given the story was told in multiple POV.
Regardless, I was entertained and Hurst has left it open for a sequel. I’m not letting my disappointment with this one stand in my way of enjoying any future books by this author!
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
I love this author's books and was delighted to read the follow up to The Doctor's Wife,. Fern Devlin is still as obnoxious as ever. The Doctor's Widow picks up from where the story
A lever finished in the previous book.. There are some unexpected events that turns this book on its head. Can't say too much about the plot for fear of giving away spoilers. Definitely need to read tge first book before this one
Wow! I had doubts that this was gonna be as good as the first one however it kept on proving me wrong time and time again. I loved the cliffhanger at the end and very interested to see what happens next.
Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the ARC of #TheDoctorsWidow by #DanielHurst. This book was just as amazing as the first book of this series, The Doctors Wife. It had me on edge from page one till the chilling, twisted ending. Absolutely loved it and hoping there will be a third book coming.
I loved Daniel Hurst's The Doctor's Wife, so I was thrilled when the second book came out. Just like the first, The Doctor's Widow sucks you in, making it impossible to put down. I loved the characters, the way the author tells the story from different perspectives, and the ending that keeps you wanting more. This series is one of the best!
An excellent sequel. What I really like about Daniel Hurst's books is that they are fast-paced and very hard to put down. This one was no different. An excellent read.
This is the second of this series and it was just as good as the first, fast paced with a surprise ending that opens it up to a 3rd book,I can't wait to read the continuation of this story!
I had no idea there would be a book two of The Doctor's Wife, but luckily there is and it's The Doctor's Widow! I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley and it'll be out on the 23rd of August.
Again we follow Fern as she is setting up her new life without her husband Drew, in a beautiful home and driving an expensive car. She got away with it...at least that's what she thinks. Greg, a friend of Drew, is determined to get to the truth of what happened and he will go the extra mile to prove it. He secretly gets close to her and works his way to uncover the truth, but will he be safe himself?
I loved part one a lot. The different perspectives in which the book was written is also in this book a great plus. We get to see the different ways the characters act and think and especially why they do that. Fern is a sick character and that radiates from the pages. The only point for me was Greg. He is somewhat too much involved from the beginning, and why? The reason for that is a bit much. In some parts he comes across as an obsessive stalker which doesn't make a lot of sense.
All in all, again a very decent read!
4/5⭐
Pretty much a one sitting read for the latest in this outstanding authors books, difficult to say much about it as don’t want to give it away and also know a lot of people read Book 1, if you didn’t or if you want to refresh your memory on the story there are flashbacks to Book 1
Really best thing to say is that if ‘you know who’ did sequels then they would have done this 😀
Superb and even though it seems some people don’t like you mentioning endings in reviews I am gonna say this is a momentous ending, two times over and will bowl you over
Brilliant!
Oh my word another fantastic read from this very talented author who never lets me down with his books. Great storytelling which held my interest throughout, twisty, and just a brilliant story from the beginning until the end.
I can feel The Doctor's Baby may be coming along soon hopefully and I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC, my only negative comment is the books are never long enough for me!
It was pretty quick and easy and although I was excited to read a follow up to the drs wife, this one just felt a bit empty. It didn't feel like a complete book more like a little add on novella since nothing really happens and it's all just a bit of a follow up rather than a sequal if that makes sense. I'm hoping the 3rd book will redeem the series but this just lacked the standard I'd usually expect from the author
A real quick read.
Fantastic follow up written brilliantly as always by this author.
Some real tense moments which had me holding my breath.
Cannot wait for the next instalment.
Please Daniel keep them coming.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Enjoyed 'The Doctor's Wife', the first in the series and eagerly awaited 'The Doctor's Widow', and was certainly not disappointed with this book which tantalize you with its twists and turns. Thoroughly recommended and hoping the series continues. Finished the book in a day, my thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to be an ARC for this book.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I did not read the first book in this series but had no problem keeping up.
With the backstory.
I did not enjoy this story as much as I had expected. There is a third book in the series but I’m not positive I’ll read it. The characters felt flat and shallow to me. Not a good match for me.
3 stars
My Review:
Loved!!!!! Daniel Hurst has done it once again. When you pick up one of his books I guarantee you will not be able to put it down until it’s finished. I started reading this author not that long ago and once I did I couldn’t stop for the life of me. He writes shorter books so you can get through them in a blink of an eye. That’s one of the reasons why I love him so much. He gets right to the point. Also, I love that there is always some sort of twist at the end that you never saw coming. It’s great and leaves you totally shocked. Now let’s talk a little about this one. All the characters in this one fit perfectly together to create the perfect story. Each of them had their own specific purpose to the story to make it awesome. So this book was a sequel. I didn’t know how the author was going to do it but once I read the blurb I then understood where he was heading with this read. Now let’s talk about my favorite part, the ending. This author always leaves me speechless at the end. He fills the last few chapters with a bunch of twists and turns that leave you saying OMG. I was truly shocked and sad to see this end. The author did end this book with a possibility of writing a third. I’m crossing my fingers to turning this series into a trilogy. Kudos to Daniel Hurst for another wonderful book. I can’t wait to read more by him.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed the first book so was excited to read Daniel hursts follow up the doctor’s widow. Upon starting I was straight back into the storyline even though I’d read the first book some months back’. Loved it! Still preferred the first but this one is still a great read. And that ending has left it open for a book 3….,,fabulous, can’t wait for that! And that hotel room scene was gripping, I had sweating palms reading it!
I really enjoyed that this book had multiple POV chapters & I also enjoyed that the book was very short! The female MC was giving Gone Girl vibes & I really enjoyed that!
The story was very hard to get into regardless of how short it was, there was so many plot holes and things that were just not making sense to me personally that I did not want to continue the book nonetheless I did.
I found the male MC a bit of a weirdo idk who would do all the scheming he did over a tennis partner he had lost contact with. The ending was just left off as if a third book coming into play & frankly it could’ve been been finished off in this one as a duo or even just left it with one book.
I really enjoyed this sequel. Despite the fact that there weren't big twists in the story, it was still enjoyable and closed the story off nicely. I literally read this in an afternoon! Tgbaknyou NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
Good followup to The Doctor's Wife! While not quite as good as book 1, this one still packed a punch and I read cover to cover within a few short hours. Loved the different perspectives and couldn't wait to see if revenge would be had. Recommend if you loved the first book in the series!
