Soo good! I loved The Doctor's Wife and was thrilled to get ARC of The Doctor's Widow. I read it in a day and enjoyed it. Good twists and turns. I can't wait to read what is next.
A quick and easy read. Not great but enjoyable enough. I did a lot of skimming past too many unnecessary details and repetitive mentioning of those same details. I’m a avid reader of suspense/mystery/thrillers and this one just didn’t “thrill” me enough.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was one of those reads that every chapter leaves you wanting more and more.
Firstly, I feel this book can be read as a standalone, however, "The Doctors Wife" truly helps with the storyline of "The Doctors Widow". "The Doctors Widow" does summarize "The Doctors Wife", but don't take away the experience of reading book 1! "The Doctors Wife" was just as good of a page turner.
***This review may have minor spoilers**
This is told from 3 points of view, Fern, Roger, and Alice
Fern, our Doctors Widow, but we might as well call her the Black Widow at this point, is on the run!
Roger (aka Gregg) is on to Fern and all her lies. And is so obsessed with finding out the truth. When I say obsessed, it's at a gravity of obsession that it was insanity. I felt like Roger (aka Gregg) was not just determined he was obsessed. But really, wouldnt we all be if someone killed our loved one. I did however scream at Roger to sit down before he was Ferns next.
Alice, just wants to get out of jail. She didn't kill him.
I loved how even though the book is about Fern, it focused more on Roger, and his obsession at finding out the truth and the length he went to get it. Because he sure got it!
I'm not sure if the narrative for Alice was as well depicted as it could of been. Jail has so much more to it then and I wish I felt that energy more.
Overall, this is an absolutely great read. A page turner that will keep engulfed.
The ending, that's not fair Daniel Hurst. When i turned the page and it said "Epilogue" i screamed NOOOOO . The cliff hanger can only mean one thing. I expect a book 3 😁.
As a reader, I am always trying to predict the path that the author will take, often coming up with several possible storylines. This book provides so many twists and turns that I was unable to predict most of the events and often found myself thinking, "WHAAAAAT?!" . I enjoyed this book. The ending was a bit abrupt and a slight let down, but it wasn't a bad ending.
This book picks up right where The Doctor’s Wife left off, and it never slows down.
Twist after twist. Shock after shock. I struggled to put it down to sleep.
I felt like I was in the book myself, like it had consumed me and become real life.
Having Alice’s point of view was something I didn’t expect, and I’m glad it was included! I hadn’t even thought about hearing her parts of the story.
Wow. I absolutely recommend this book, but of course, if you haven’t already, make sure to read The Doctor’s Wife first!
This is a fantastic sequel to ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ which is one of my favourite books by Daniel Hurst.
This is a great read, and one that I’d definitely recommend. There’s lots of twists throughout and I was quickly drawn onto the plot.
I can’t wait for book number 3!
I was super excited to discover this was a sequel to the Doctors Wife after it finished the way it did. That was my introduction to this author and I have devoured a number of his other books since.
The Doctors Widow follows Fern Devlin as she navigates her new life post Drew.
Inheritance money in the bank means a new car and house, the other woman Alice is in jail and her secrets are safe.
This leads Fern to start looking forward to turning 40 with her new trustworthy boyfriend Roger by her side.
“I am doing even better as the doctor’s widow than I was as the doctor’s wife.”
Not as twisty as the first book but overall I enjoyed it, it was a quick and entertaining read.
Thank you NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book before it’s release 📚💫
Wow is what I can say about this book! Her Last Hour was amazing. Daniel Hurst knows how to deliver the twist after twist. I enjoyed it and highly recommend. I love his books. I didn't see that ending coming.
I have been wishing and waiting for a second book and this one exceeded all of my expectations. Read the first then immediately get this one. Trust me you won't regret it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this arc. This is the sequel to The Doctors Wife and I was on edge the whole time. So much suspense!!! Daniel Hurst, we need book 3 now to see what happens!

This is the sequel to ["The Doctor’s Wife" which you should read first but if not here is a quick recap.
Fern, the Doctor’s wife murdered her cheating husband, Dr. Drew Devlin and framed his
lover, Alice. She got Alice’s husband to help her. Guess what?
She also kills him - making it look like a suicide.
In this story Fern is enjoying spending Drew’s life insurance money; including driving a very expensive car and living in a new beautiful home.
Soon Roger a handsome man comes into her life. Fern is sure Roger is nothing like the cheating Drew but she needs to be careful about a new relationship as she is supposed to ‘a grieving widow’.
We readers find out more about Roger; he was a friend of Drew’s and wants to find out the truth.
Quick read and I am thinking ~ great Fern is going to get what she deserves’! The End.
Nope! The ending is a bit of a cliff hanger ~ a teaser for Book #3
I thought this was going to be a predictable story but I should know better as Daniel Hurst doesn’t disappoint!
This is my thirteenth Daniel Hurst story ~
Believe it or not but the first couple I read I thought were only okay. I became a big fan when I read "The Couple in the Cabin"
I thought this was going to be a predictable story but I should know better as Daniel Hurst doesn’t disappoint!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early e-Galley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for August 23, 2023
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent sequel and I really enjoyed the multiple points of view. Having the detective’s, Alice’s, Fern’s and Greg’s perspectives throughout the book really added to the thrill of the story. I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Fern would be caught. It was also interesting that the door was left open for a third book.
This is book two so you need to read book one to fully appreciate this book. Fern has gotten away with murder and now is starting her new life. A new car, new house and a new boyfriend and about to celebrate her 40th birthday. What can go wrong now?
I loved the first book and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book to see what happens next.
I loved the fast pace, secrets revealed and the ending. Set up for book three?
I absolutely love everything by Daniel Hurst and this book was no exception. I loved the open ending for a possible future book. The first was great as was this one. Can’t wait to read more!

She trusted him. Now she’s paying the price…****** Now that will make you wonder*****
The follow up book to The Doctor’s wife and second in the series by Daniel Hurst had me wondering if this book could compare to the first one. I ca say with all honesty that it did. It really did. I do not normally neglect my family or things that need attended to but when I started reading this book, I was not going to stop no matter what. I do not even know if everyone had dinner that night but I can tell you everything about how great this book is.
Dr. Drew Devlin is dead and his mistress Alice is in prison for his murder. His wife is spending the money from his estate and getting away with the one carnal sin that should have her grieving but not her.. Fern Devlin also has a new man in her life, Roger and he is asking way to many questions about Fern’s ex husband. Should that concern her? The two person POV is told from Fern and Rogers perspectives and really starts to make the reader question everything. But the biggest question of all has yet to be answered and will Fern be able to tell the whole truth and will Roger turn out to be Prince Charming and will he be able to find out if Fern killed her husband? Roger”s real name is Glenn and he was Drew’s good friend. Will he find the information he needs?
4 stars because there were places that dragged some and there were fillers added that really were not needed.
Thank you to NetGalley as well as the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
I found this book a bit of a stretch. I also found that I couldn’t really attach myself to any of the characters because there really wasn’t any character development or relationship progress. It was really just one character self involved.
That being said. It was a quick read and of course ends abruptly so I will have to read the next one to see what a happens.
I did enjoy the first book in the series more.
This very fast read took me only a couple hours to devour. This is a sequel to “The Doctor’s Wife” but could also be a standalone read, which is my experience. I loved the author’s fast paced writing and dived right into the plot head first.
Fern is a fresh off the press wealthy widow with a new life, new house, car and boyfriend. She boasts about how the loss of her husband has made her a very rich widow as she spends his life insurance money.
“I’m moving on from Doctor Drew Devlin and feeling much better about this next chapter of my life.”
Her boyfriend, Roger is really Glenn, her husband’s casual friend who takes it upon himself to find proof that Fern murdered her own husband, Dr. Devlin and framed his mistress, Alice. Unfortunately, what he discovers leads to his demise. But low and behold, Fern finally gets her just desserts and Alice is set free.
This was my first book by Daniel Hurst and it definitely will not be my last! Superb writing that had me glued until the very last page. he also left the book open ended, for a possible sequel!
Thanks to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture and NetGalley for this copy and having me review this fast read!
This is a great follow up to The Doctor’s Wife.
I probably shouldn’t but I do find myself rooting for Fern and hoping she’ll end up alright. Her web of lives and murder keeps getting longer.
I’m excited to see if there is another book considering both female main characters are now pregnant. Would be a crazy book!
Wow! This was a binge read with jaw dropping twists! This was a sequel to The Doctor's Wife. It started out gripping you from the first page. I finished it in a day. It left it open for a sequel as there were unanswered questions. Highly recommend!
You know there's something about Roger, don't you? Fern doesn't- not at first, She's spending her late husband's insurance payout and living her life while another woman is in prison for his murder. And then things get funky for her. I missed the first book but that didn't matter- this is a trope-y but highly readable short novel. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. It's got a few good twists.
