There is barely any dialogue in this book. It felt more like a short novella rather than a full book. It should have been a novella. The story could have actually been wrapped up in Book 1. There shouldn’t be any reason for a Book 3 (or 2). All the unnecessary fillers could have been removed and this story could have just been added as a bonus chapter or two to Book 1. I did enjoy Book 1 though.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were well developed and the story was engaging. I recommend that others try this book as well. Well done!
I loved, loved, loved this second book in Daniel Hurst's The Doctor's Wife series. While Alice sits in prison for the murder of Dr. Drew Devlin, his widow, Fern, is out enjoying her late husband's insurance money. One night while out in a pub, Fern meets handsome "Roger" and she quickly falls for him. Things really happen fast in this book and I loved all the twists, turns and the fantastic ending. Book one of this series was equally as great and both are real page turners.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book that kept up reading well into the night. I just hope there will be a continuation of this awesome series.

The doctor’s widow is the sequel to The doctors wife. I would advise to read that one first. If you haven’t already.
After the Drews death Fern is living the life of luxury, with a new car and a million-pound house. She is also embarking on a new relationship. Which some would think it is too quick after Drew’s death.
While Alice is locked up in prison and being done over from a women called Kelly, that has an instant dislike for her. When she gets a visit from Drew’s old friend Greg who says he knows that she is innocent and is going to get proof to prove it. He pretends to be someone else whose name is Roger and has got close to Fern to find the truth. But things doesn’t go to plan.
David Hurst has done it again with the ‘The Doctors widow’ this is another riveting read from the author that I couldn’t put down. I was so wanting Fern to get found out and get her just desserts that it pushed me on to keep reading to see if she does.
Once again, the author has left a cliffhanger at the end. So, they will be another book. I am hoping that Fern will get her comeuppance in the end. 5 stars from me.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Her husband is dead, her secret is safe, she has bought a new house with his life insurance - life is good and getting better as she has met Roger and fallen in love- but can she trust him? Why does he keep asking her questions? Is he trying to uncover her secret. How far will she go to keep is hidden.?
Omg what a fabulous follow up to book 1. Im lucky enough to have read book 1 but you dont have to in order to read this. There is a good recap at the start and the action is well paced throughout I enjoyed every single word. The book burb gives the best synopsis of the book i would just spoil it.
GRIPPED to the end . Story is told from pov of multiple characters both men and women which gives the novel more substance and depth to the characters . At times i felt the story progressed a little too quickly but as i was hoping the end rewarded me by saying i nay be right.
Thank you so much net gallery publisher and Daniel Hurst . So look forward to the next one. Solid 5 stars
Well I always do love a Daniel Hurst but this one was unique for me a follow on. Wow did it pack the usual twists and turns and the ending on my goodness I cannot wait for the next book (even that is a spoiler and I just am working how to review this without spoilers).
This kept me up till late in the night as I had to finish and find out what happened.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I absolutely loved the Doctor's Wife and was ecstatic to learn he was writing a part 2! I couldn't wait to see what Fern, Alice, and "Roger" were up to. Well here we are: Fern is now living the good life, off her cheating husband's life insurance. Alice is sitting in jail thanks to Fern setting her up for Drew's death. And "Roger" aka Greg is trying to solve the mystery of who killed his 'friend" Drew as he has an inkling it's Fern and not Alice. As for Greg I'm still trying to figure out his creepy obsession with Drew's death. They didn't seem that close of friends. Maybe I missed it, lol.
I must say I was very pleased with book 2, and thought Daniel did a pretty good job, as sequels can be iffy.
I did read this very quickly as it was hard to put down, each chapter I finished left you wanting more. Very addicting so be prepared!
I did enjoy the different POVs throughout the book. This story didn't have any big twists, which is fine as it didn't really need one. I'm hoping Daniel does one more book as I would love to see what happens with Fern and Alice's relationship going forward.
Fern thinks she has gotten away with murder. Literally. Her husband’s mistress is in jail framed for the murder of Fern’s husband. Fern has a new home and a new beau. Of course, in a Daniel Hurst book things are never as simple as that. This fast paced sequel to The Doctor’s Wife definitely did not disappoint with well written characters from the original. I definitely recommend this sequel.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for an ARC.
The Doctor's Widow is the sequel to The Doctor's Wife. I really enjoyed reading the first book and was very excited to be given the chance to read this one.
From the start, I was hooked - Daniel has a talent for keeping me gripped in the storyline and unable to put his books down until I've finished!
The Doctor's Widow was fast paced and the characters were portrayed perfectly. The only thing I will say is I'm not sure a GP would live such a glamorous life as is portrayed in this story.
Really looking forward to the next book in this series to see what happens next!
I stayed up until 3am to finish the book because I just needed to know what happened! What a great series. I loved it and am hoping for a 3rd in the series!!
I'm really sorry that when I requested this, I didn't say book 2 or that it was a book 2 didn't show on my screen at least. I don't think it'd be fair for me to review this properly when it is the second and sounds as if there will be background I need. My sincere apologies for my mistake. Thank you nevertheless.
This prologue got me sucked in immediately Fern just wants to move on and live her life with all this money. Roger is the man to help her, but wowwwww does he know her secret?! There has got to be another book because I still have questions that are unanswered.
Daniel Hurst does it again! Loved to get more on the story of The Doctor’s Wife, now the widow. It is very interesting to read how things play out with all the characters. I have enjoyed every single one of Daniel Hurst’s books, and this one did not disappoint.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC and the chance to read and give my honest and voluntary review. I had the highest of hopes for this book and was super excited to read it. While it was not a bad read, it was nothing like I expected. The characters and situations were spotty at best, not captivating or believable at all. It was a decent novel, just not the polished, intriguing stroking I am used to from other authors.
Just finished The Doctor's Widow and loved it!! I loved the different viewpoints and the cliffhanger ending which makes me happy to know that there is at least one more piece to this crazy story!!.
I blasted through it in under 2 days and was hooked from right where it picks up from the Doctor's Wife!!
The Doctor’s Widow to me felt like it was trying to imitate other books in it’s genre and failed. There are positives and negatives in this review, which I will go through sans spoilers, in just a moment. We shall start with the negatives to end on a high note.
The negatives - this book didn’t keep me guessing like I thought it would. The plot twists were easy to spot, and I found them lack lustre at best. The characters were 2D and really didn’t have any depth to them. Fern’s character felt chaotic and disorganised (which is not how she was attempting to be portrayed, in my opinion). The ending was a cliffhanger, and didn’t inspire me to read on. If anything I felt relief not having to read more because the contents of this book felt arduous and difficult to want to read on.
The positives - whilst Fern’s character wasn’t how I got the vibe she was supposed to be portrayed, the chaotic skittishness added to the drama of the story. The interconnected plotlines were well done and I began to piece together how they were all linked easily.
Overall, I wanted more from this book and it just came across as a poor attempt of mimicking Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, but with enervating paragraphs of unnecessary text and description.
I enjoyed the first book The Doctors Wife so was looking forward to reading this sequel. A lovely easy read as are all Daniels books. Fast paced storyline with a few twists that I wasn’t expecting. It feels like it’s been left on a cliffhanger so hopefully there will be a book 3. Will Alice be able to get justice? We will have to see!
3.5 stars out of 5.
The Doctor's Widow was a real page turner but I felt the book lacked depth. It was a little unbelievable in parts and the ending felt rushed. It does set everything up perfectly for the next book though, which I am excited to read! I did enjoy the multiple POV's in the book and thought the second half of the book was a lot better than the first.
The book starts with Fern buying a new car and house after all is settled and done with the death of her husband, Drew. She meets Roger and really hits it of with him and they start dating, but is he on to her secrets?
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGally and the publishers for this ARC.
I will always read any book by Daniel Hurst because they’re all great easy reads with insane twists.
I adored the The Doctors Wife when I read it back in January and I felt like this book followed on from it perfectly!
I had no idea where the plot was going and I just kept getting more and more shocked.
