A great domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep you both entertained and guessing to the end. I found this book moved at pace and built the tension throughout before ramping up to a dramatic conclusion. Emily Shiner is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more of her work. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

Abby, Mark and their son Henry are running a very charming b&b in Maine. It is picturesque and everything seems to be perfect from the outside. They have guests book the entire b&b for 3 weeks, but during their stay a terrible snow storm comes and the twists and turns come at you from every angle after that.
I read this book in less than 36 hours! It was a page turner and you definitely want to find out what is coming.
The book is full of twists and turns and will leave you wondering who is telling the truth, who is lying and what is going to happen next!
The cons for me were the changes in the characters and their roles/mannerisms. When major evens happen noone bats and eye or questions anything. It left a lot of questions unanswered, but all in all I would read this book again.
i enjoyed this was gripped from the bwginning shows what lies do to relationships and how far people are willing to go to protect their children
Emily shiner does it again!
I love how Emily really gets into the plot in her stories before she spins her web of twists!
Emily’s writing is so nice to read it has an amazing flow & her stories always hook me from the get go!
I absolutely loved this one & I cannot wait to read more
The perfect escape.. or the perfect trap?
Abby & Mark have a quiet Bed and Breakfast in coastal Maine, but business isn't what it used to be. So naturally Abby takes matters into her own hands and decided to run a sale. Almost immediately a family bites and books a stay for 3 weeks. Abby thought her prayers were answered but who did she just welcome into her home? And for 3 weeks for that matter?
Wow. Emily Shiner has done it again with the THRILLING domestic suspense. This book sucked me in on the first page and I read it in less than 24 hours & it was GOOD! I was literally sitting there about 30% in like... I NEED ANSWERS NOW, to the point I read 70% of the book in one sitting.
What I loved:
- multiple pov's
- cliffhangers at the end of each chapter
- the twists
- good ol family drama
- a cozy setting and a snowstorm of course!
You're gonna want to pick this bad boy up when it releases September 7th!
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for an Advanced Reader Copy of this one!
Wow! Initially, I wanted to go and stay at The Saltside Inn but things quickly seemed to get creepy. These people all have an agenda and secrets. I flew through this fast paced, story. Abby certainly takes revenge to a whole new level.
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture and Emily Shiner for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
This was my first Emily Shiner book, & it did not disappoint. The setting of being secluded in snowy, Maine during a horrible blizzard really set the atmosphere for me. I absolutely loved this book from the setting to the characters, storyline and all the twists! I second guessed myself many times. Abby was such a badass!!!
This was such a fun & fast paced read. I love a revenge filled book full of twists & turns.
Plus, I really had some major cover LOVE for this book.

The Hotel is an excellent psychological thriller full of lies and deceit. Very suspenseful, a very fast paced captivating read that has surprises until the final ending, and oh what an ending!
I highly recommend this 5 star book to anyone that likes psychological thrillers and surprises.
Short Synopsis:
As we welcome the Rowe family to our beautiful clifftop hotel, a shadow passes over my husband’s face. In that moment I see my husband is hiding a terrible secret. Has he put us all in danger?
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Bookouture for a copy of this ARC #TheHotel
I liked this book, but one issue I had was that it was extremely predictable to me. There was no "wow" factor that blew me away, which was really disappointing. From the very beginning every character was talking about their "plan" and as time went on it became more and more easy to figure out who was going to do what. I am sad, because I had extremely high hopes, but this book was just not it for me.
The writing was good, and I think the author did very well. There was a lot of build up and twists at every turn. I would recommend this book to people who may be just beginning their journey into the thriller world because it would be a great starter book. I actually do want to check out other books by the author, and this book did not turn me away from any of their other works.
OMG WoW this was such a fantastic thriller which had me hooked. It was so fast paced I thought I was on a rollercoaster with its many twists and turns. I think the setting of the book definitely helped build the suspense.
Told from different perspectives which I think definitely helped build the suspense. Abby and her husband Mark have a toddler they also run a clifftop hotel. With the business struggling Abby decides to run a limited time special, and is pleasantly surprised when the Rowe family respond almost immediately and want to book the entire hotel for three weeks. When the family of three arrives Abby notices her husband has a strange reaction to seeing them. Why has he had this reaction? And with a blizzard coming in on them all what is everyone hiding?
This was a very good, twisty, and suspenseful read with a fantastic ending which I highly recommend.

The Hotel by Emily Shiner
Wow! I was promised a twisty thriller that you could not put down and did it deliver!
Abby and her husband Mark run an B&B in Main, after Abby is looking at the finances she comes to the conclusion that they need to get people in the B&B and fast. Together Abby and Mark run a promotion for the B&B and the Rowes book out the whole house for 3 weeks in December. Everyone has secrets but who can we trust?
Let me start off with what I love about this book:
- multiple povs!
- I loved Abby’s pov the most
- It was super fast paced
- So many twist! It really kept me on my toes
What wasn’t my favorite:
- The ending, it became drawn out
- Referring to a 2 year old boy as a “future heartbreaker” (this is more of a personal pet peeve)
Over all I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fast paced thriller, that you can binge.

The Hotel by Emily Shiner is a domestic thriller . This book was very good. Fast paced and full of suspense, it was right up my alley.
Abby and Mark own a Bed and Breakfast perched high on a cliff overlooking the ocean in very rural Oyster Maine. They have no neighbors and must travel through dangerous roads to get to town. They have a 2 year old son, Henry, who is Abby's shining joy. Lately the BB has not been doing well financially so Abby puts a promotional advertisement up on social media to draw in guests. She gets a reply from a couple and their daughter who want to rent out the entire BB for 3 weeks. Abby is thrilled that this could be the answer to their financial struggles. Mark, however, doesn't seem as pleased.
The guests, Lottie, Tim, and their 16 year old daughter Chelsea show up to stay for 3 weeks. And that's when things start to go awry. Abby gets locked in a room. Henry's baby monitor goes missing. Threatening notes are left for Abby. There are so many secrets from each of them, except 2 year old Henry, I didn't know who to trust.
Unfortunately a blizzard hits making matters worse. Now they are all trapped in the house together and eventually they lose electricity. The author does a wonderful job with the remote setting and the cold howling wind. Brrrrr. Secrets start to come out and no one is safe.
The ending was fantastic and I was shocked. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. It is greatly appreciated.
I am becoming a huge fan of Emily Shiner. The Hotel does not disappoint! I LOVE the twists and turns in this book that will keep you racing to the end. DO NOT MISS THIS!! I thought I had the twists figured out but I was wrong and then REALLY wrong. Going to be one of the hits of the fall season!
The Hotel is a psychological locked-room thriller set at a remote B&B in Maine during the middle of winter. Mark and Abby have run their B&B for the past decade with quite a bit of success; however, recently, Abby is realizing that they have hit a downturn and are now losing money and not gaining any guests. Abby decides to run a special, and to her surprise, a family decides to rent out the B&B for three weeks. When the Rowes (Lottie, Tim, and Chelsea) arrive, Abby immediately suspects something. They seem overly familiar with her husband and Chelsea is insistant on spending time with Abby and Mark's son Henry. Then, weird things start happening around the B&B, and Abby suddenly fears for her family.
There was a lot that did not work for me in this book. While I normally enjoy multiple POVs, the pacing seemed off for me, especially with Chelsea's chapters. Speaking of Chelsea, there was absolutely no background given to explain why she is the way she is. If a character is presented as a sociopath/psychopath, I feel that some sort of explanation is needed for the reader to understand. Tim also was an unnecessary "evil" character that had no development or explanation. All of the twists were extremely predictable, which made the end drag on a lot. There is also a death/murder scene that comes out of nowhere and doesn't really feel like it was needed. Finally, for me, the ending was not satisfying. I would have liked to have another chapter from Mark's or Chelsea's POV.
Mt third book by this author and I was a happy camper once again.
Her books are easy to read and they keep you wanting to read on and on and on.
There are not a lot of characters in this book which makes it easy to know who is who from the very beginning. At first it's crystal clear two of hem have either secrets or plans or maybe even both. The further you get into the book, you realise there is not one single person who does not have a plan or something they want to hide.
The question is who made the best plan? Who took the most time to make all the details fit? Who will be a winner and who will loose everything?
Some are working together. Some work against each other. Who will have the last laugh...?
I enjoyed this read. Although my brain had put a few pieces of the puzzle in their right places, I was still surprised by a few extra twists the author treated me to.
So yes, another great story to devour during a rainy day or any other day. 5 stars
Thank you
The Hotel by Emily Shiner is about Mark and Abby, who pride themselves on giving visitors to their hotel a vacation they won’t forget. But the Rowes are strangely over-familiar when they arrive with their teenage daughter. The wife puts a hand on Mark’s forearm and her husband meets Abby's eyes with a knowing look as she holds her son tight. They gush that they loved their previous stay here. But Abby is certain she's never seen them before. Mark reassures Abby that the Rowes are just being friendly.
As the relentless icy rain gives way to the biggest blizzard of the season and they become cut off, Abby realizes her and her are trapped. Mark knows more about the Rowes than he’s letting on, and Abby will do anything to protect her child.
The Hotel is told through multiple character perspectives. It was an addictive and gripping psychological thriller. There were so many twists, and each character had a motive, with so many lies, revenge, and deception playing parts in the story.
A very good, twisty, and suspenseful read. Plus, I really liked the cover!

I loved how this story was set in a very remote location where they get snowed in with no escape. I found that it built the suspense up even more for a very thrilling read. Love this author!
This is one of my favourite books from Emily - so many twists that kept me second guessing myself, and kept my theories changing. The story is explosive and filled with secrets - from everyone - and you are lead down a rabbit hole into this gripping psychological thriller. I was absolutely hooked and gripped, and did not want to put it down as I needed to know what was happening, The hotel is fast paced but so much happens, you are constantly thinking what the next steps are going to be. I would highly recommend this book.
A suspenseful and fast paced pyschological thriller, filled with lies and deceit.
'He loves that about me. Loves that I'd do anything for my family. What he doesn't know if just how far I'm willing to go'.
Synopsis
Abby and Mark run a remote B&B, up on the cliffs - when it snows, they are cut off from everyone. Trying to keep the B&B afloat after financial difficulties, Abby decides to run a discounted rate for returning guests.
Straight away, a family wants to book the place out for three weeks over December. Abby is over the moon, but Mark is quiet - he's not 100% on board with a family staying for three weeks.
In the end, the family turn up - Lottie, Tim and their daughter Chelsea. Everything runs smoothly at first, but then the snow storm comes - effectively trapping them all inside the house... and that's when things start to go wrong. Abby and Mark's son, Henry, keeps turning up missing, the baby monitor goes missing, someone leaves a creepy note in the kitchen, and someone locks Abby in a room.
Is it their new guests? What would be their motive for messing with Abby like this, but also - what secrets and lies are they all hiding?
Thoughts
Suspenseful, fast paced and filled with secrets - it's a captivating read, full of surprises. I enjoyed the multiple POVs, seeing what others are thinking and what secrets they are hiding, or the game they're trying to play.
I would have liked to see a little more background as to why Chelsea has turned out the way she has (she's a little bit psychopathic!), and why Mark did a complete personality change at the end, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this read.
'One of us is going to walk away from this with the thing we want. And it's going to be me'.
