My Review: I enjoyed this story, told from different perspectives. The drama and unravelling starts when the Rowe Family book the whole hotel Saltside Inn, in Oyster, Maine for three weeks for Christmas. Abby can't believe her luck as the place as been so quiet. Her super tall husband Mark and their young son Henry live there with her. Lottie, her husband Tim and their daughter Chelsea arrive and this is where the page turning begins, I couldn't wait to find out what happens next. Recommended to all the thriller lovers out there.

Mark and Abby own the Saltside Inn in Oyster, Maine, and are parents to a young son named Henry. As they haven’t been attracting enough guests, Abby places an ad which results in more people registering for a room.

Lottie and Tim Rowe and their daughter, Chelsea, respond to the add and want to stay at the Inn for three weeks. The new family settles in with Abby cooking delicious food for everyone. But, then a huge snowstorm hits that keeps them all inside. That’s when some secrets start to emerge. Who is the Rowe family and why did they choose the Inn to stay for three weeks?

As tidbits start to emerge in the story, I was slowly putting together the clues. However, as the story drew to its conclusion, I was disappointed. A lot of unlikeable characters and a hit or miss plot. Loved another book by this author, but this one simply fell short for me.

This was such a fast-paced thriller!

The story starts with Abby and Mark allowing the Rowes family to book an entire hotel for the few weeks. But then when the Rowe family reaches the hotel, there was something mysterious and dark going on between the Rowe family and Abby and Mark. What started with minor things become a cat and mouse chase game with one of them ended up dead and Mark owing someone money.

This was a fast-paced thriller. The story is told from Abby, Mark, Lottie and Lottie's daughter's point of views so it is interesting to know what each of the characters are thinking about each other. The whole story was fast-paced and there were some unexpected twists and turns. I actually really liked the ending--with a cliffhanger in the end and as a reader you would really want to know, what is really going to happen next. Overall, if you have read Ruth Ware's One by One book, and liked a thriller with a locked room mystery, then this book is one for you. Well written, gripping and atmospheric--worth five stars!

Many thanks to Bookouture for making me a part of the blog tour. The book is based on my honest opinion only.

Not only was this a wonderful thriller, but there were creepy elements included as well. I read this book in the evenings, and the vivid descriptions of the hotel has me hearing noises over my shoulder. 😂

Emily is a master at twists and turns that aren’t over the top, yet they fit in extremely well with the developing plot. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Abby initially but I grew to love her throughout this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Emily Shiner for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

A secluded B&B, a snowy blizzard and some secrets that are about to all be exposed.

2.5⭐️

This book did not do it for me, the story started extremely slow for my taste, it picked up towards the middle but by the end I felt like I had already guessed all the “plot twists”.
There weren’t any characters in the story that I found myself connecting with and honestly didn’t find myself liking any of them.

I was intrigued by the initial premise of the book, but throughout reading I wasn’t engrossed like I normally would be in a psychological thriller book. I wasn’t hanging to get answers as I was constantly finding I had already figured out what was going to happen next.

There were elements in the book that I did enjoy, however overall the plot was lacking for me to stay invested throughout the entirety of the story.

Thankyou Netgalley & Bookouture for an ARC of ‘The Hotel’ in exchange for an honest review.

3.5. Didn’t hate it but didn’t love it. Short chapters made it a fast read. Ending was kind of predictable.

Shocking, jaw dropping, atmospheric and hard to put down!!

Abby and Mark run a picturesque clifftop hotel, overlooking the ocean in Maine. Their hotel is in a beautiful setting, but it is struggling financially. Abby has found a way to entice guests by offering a promotion. Soon, the Rowe family books the entire hotel for a three week stay! Abby is excited! The Rowe's say they have stayed there before, but Abby can't find their previous booking. Strange but she is not concerned. She and Mark have a toddler and they both love having people around. This booking will help with their cash flow.

From the moment the Rowe's and their teenage daughter arrive, there is discomfort and unease. Soon strange things begin to happen like Abby being locked in her bedroom, whispering on her son's baby monitor, etc.

This book grabbed my attention from the very first page! I loved the setting of the cliffside hotel in Maine. When the snow begins to fall, this book became very atmospheric and as they were all trapped inside waiting out the blizzard, the tension, sense of dread, anxiety and feeling of isolation grew by the page!

This book had secrets and twists galore! I had a hard time putting this book down! There are several reveals, each better than the last! This is how you do it! This is the second book that I have read by Emily Shiner, and I cannot wait to read what she writes next.

Well written, well thought out, gripping, atmospheric and shocking!

First, I want to thank Emily Shiner, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Dang Emily Shiner you are on fire girl!! I thought The Wife in the Photo was good but OMG The Hotel was even better!! I was totally addicted!! I was at the edge of my seat biting my already short nails! This book was mind blowing, thrilling, extremely suspenseful, and total jaw dropping shock value!

The Hotel reminded me how much I hate all things winter!! I know, I know I live in Buffalo, NY, home of terrible winters-but I hate being cold!! Even though it is hotter than blazes out this book gave me all the chills-not just weather wise!!

Sweet little two year old Henry was my favorite character of them all! This little guy pulled on my heart strings hard! He was just the cutest little guy ever!

I absolutely loved how Emily built up the suspense with all the hidden secrets and drama leading up to the earth shattering climatic scenes!! Ohh those secrets were oh so good and twisted!!

Ohh you should have seen my facial expressions as I was reading the climactic scenes!!! I could not believe what I was reading!! One minute I was laughing evilly and the next I was stone faced shocked!! Many around me asked me if I was ok!

Emily is a brilliant storyteller!! She has a gift for writing in this genre! Bookouture is so lucky to have her on their team! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Another 5 stars for Emily Shiner!! Go out and grab this book and put it on the top of your TBR list along with The Wife in the Photo!!

Two families--and their secrets--are trapped together inside an isolated Bed & Breakfast during a blizzard.

While I found the story to be a bit slow at first, it ultimately picked up almost mid-way through and I ended up enjoying this fun, unpredictable read. I especially liked the tension-filled twists and multiple POVs with unreliable narrators. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion! This was my first Emily Shiner book, and I plan to seek out more!

This book hooked me from the beginning! Shiner did such a good job writing suspense. She really made me worry about baby Henry from the very beginning. I loved how this book moved fast and kept me hooked.
I think the fact each character had a secret was mentioned quite a lot, maybe too much, but it was redeemed majorly but having so many different POVs and each was written really well!
This was a fun read I would definitely recommend- especially for spooky season!

I found myself imagining in my head about this “Hotel” and what it would actually look like and if any of my followers have heard about the Chateau Tongariro in New Zealand that was in my idea I saw. The book follows a family who are in dire times as their B&B isn’t doing so great. The lack of money has turned Abby to send out an offer the Rowe's can’t decline. They rent the whole place for a three week period but they have their own agenda at play. Everyone seems to have an idea but none will reveal their hand to one another as the mystery builds.

I found this book alright, it didn’t stand out as being great. The story was easily followed but at times became dull and uninteresting. The storyline sounded great in the description which had me interested but I felt that upon reading there were to many storylines trying to happen in such a short amount of time. Something towards the end of the book just annoyed me and I wanted it to be over. The characters became whiney and the blackmail storyline was over used. The epilogue of the novel also just did not hit it for me and I was left disappointed.

I hope others who read this book can shed light onto positives of this novel for me.

The Hotel, by Emily Shiner

Loved it! Emily Shiner is fast becoming a favourite author of mine.

Abby, Mark and their toddler son live in a rural cliff side home, which they have opened up as a B&B and are trapped inside with their guests, when a blizzard sets in.

The main twist was expected, but there were so many more to come! Four adults and a teenager, who, unbeknownst to everyone else, all have their own agenda. When each persons carefully thought out plan starts to clash with another person’s cunning actions, the tension is through the roof! They may have been on the edge of a cliff, well so was I! Ok, sofa, not cliff, but you get the idea - it was gripping!

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Emily Shiner and Bookouture for an ARC in return for an honest review.

The perfect escape...or the perfect trap...?

This is by far one of the best Emily Shiner books I've read, though to be fair, I've only read four and the other two didn't quite live up to the first one I read "The Stolen Child" which I really liked. This one was a whole lot of twisted secrets, lies and deception. A complex web so tangled I'm surprised even the spider herself could get out of it. But oh what a tangled web it was. And that ending.

Abby and Mark live in and run a B & B on the rugged cliffs of Oyster, Maine. The windswept views of the ocean, the sweeping coastline, so remote and isolated especially in a storm when the power is out and there is no way down the mountain back to civilisation. Not in a blizzard at any rate. So when Abby notices the outgoings are more than their incomings, she knows something has to change. And so she pitches her idea to Mark in the hope he will love it as much as she does. And he does. He trusts her judgement implicitly when it comes to the running of Saltside Inn.

So Abby puts together an offer for prospective guests too good to refuse in the hope she gets a bite. And no sooner has she posted the ad than she gets her first customer. And they want to book the entire B&B for three weeks...for just the three of them. Abby is thrilled. But when she texts Mark the good news, it's immediately obvious the news is not so good for him. And one has to wonder why that is. What is it that Mark is hiding?

When Lottie, Tim and their sixteen year old daughter Chelsea arrive two days later, Abby does her best to make them feel welcome. She cooks up a storm and they enjoy the meal around the table like one big happy family. But they are anything but. Because each one of them is hiding a secret. And each one of them is hoping that they come out on top. But at what cost? And to whom?

But when Abby's two year old son Henry goes missing one night and is not on any of the four floors of the Inn, her blood runs cold when she sees that there is snow just inside the door. Someone has been outside. And that someone took Henry with them. But they came back because everyone is accounted for...everyone except Henry. So where is he? And will they find him before it's too late?

This is a compelling domestic suspense thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. Though a different continent, it conjures up similar images of the unforgiving rugged Cornwall coastline, creating an atmospheric setting that is both creepy and chilling. As the story unfolds throughout the various narratives, the plot is tense and fast paced and by the end I was so completely absorbed I found I had been holding my breath.

The plot twist was fairly predictable but the writing is so tight and the story so engaging, it doesn't particularly matter. By this stage you just want to know how it all ends. But in saying that, nobody in this cast of characters is all that likeable although I did find myself silently rooting for Abby. Even so, I read this in one sitting.

What a delightfully vindictive little tale this was! And just when you thought it was over...that ending.

Secrets have a way of not staying secret. And when you try to keep them from coming to light, someone always finds out what the secrets are. When the person who finds out and plots their revenge it doesn't turn out well for anyone involved. This story gave me chills to see the lengths that were gone to to plot revenge.

Prompted by both financial worries and the 10 year anniversary of their B&B business, Abby and Mark off a special discount to returning guests in a bid to increase turnover. With Mark working as a handyman and Abby running the B&B alongside looking after their toddler Henry, they could really do with the influx of money. They can't believe their luck when the Rowe family book out the full hotel for three weeks. Mum Lottie, Dad Tim and teenage daughter Chelsea all arrive for their much needed break along with a ferocious storn that snows them all into the hotel. As strange occurances unsettle Abby and Mark struggles with his conscience, the secrets of all of the inhabitants jostle for space in the hotel and it becomes clear that no one can be trusted. Can the past really stay in the past? How do you escape when you are locked in? And just how far will some go to get what they want?

This was quite a gripping book with some very unexpected twists and turns. It was clear from the moment the Rowes arrived that there was a secret behind their booking and this was revealed relatively quickly and it was interesting to read the different viewpoints of the characters being in a position of knowing something some of them did not. The second half of the book really turned the tables unexpectedly and I was fully invested in understanding the motives and decisions of some characters, my previous assumptions about them being proven wrong.

A solid 4 stars
