Usual from Lilac Mills like all her books it’s one to take onto the sofa with a few hours a cuppa and totally lose yourself.
Hannah recently divorced with two children embarks on a no buying anything (unless it’s preloved ) bet with the newcomer to the village Owen.
He doesn’t expect her to be able to do it she doesn’t expect to like Owen more than she should.
Great village saga with great characters.
Go grab a comfy seat a cuppa and lose yourself in this village.
The Christmas Fayre on Holly Field
This story will give you all the feels. Your heart will break for Harriet as you see her struggle being a single mom, working and taking care of her kids. She has a preteen daughter who is portrayed so good in this story. Lilac Mills does a great job. Harriet also has a son and a cute little dog Etta.
Over hearing her struggles, Owen challenges her to only buy second hand. Or not buy at all if she truly doesn't need it. Owen is an environmentalist. He lives in his van and travels around. He is also a blogger. So he decides to blog the second hand challenge but Harriet doesn't know that.
Together the two get closer but we do come across troubles as well.
The Christmas Fayre on Holly Field is a sweet, festive story. It does make you think twice about purchasing new items and maybe giving second hand a try.
There is something about small town atmosphere, you can almost feel a part of it. The interesting inhabitants, the close knit community. This is that kind of a town.
I liked the romance , i liked the premise of just buying preloved gifts. It was a cozy read
Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion
Are you in need of a miracle this holiday season?
I find this time of year brings up emotions in a way that nothing else can. After 364 days of being bombarded by news of inhumanity in the world, we are in desperate need of a spark of joy and hope.
A Christmas miracle finds its way to Foxmore, a little village at the southern end of the Snowdonia mountain range in Wales. A single mom, 37-year-old Harriet Parry, and 41-year-old Owen Loxton, an environmental blogger living his best van life, are the recipients of a Christmas miracle this year.
Author Lilac Mills addresses consumerism in this inspiring festive romance. She highlights buying secondhand and creating zero waste, making this a unique read.
The characterization is stellar! The stroppy pre-teen, Sara, is so authentically represented that I found myself smiling and nodding. Bobby was the epitome of the younger brother and Etta, the three-year-old dachshund, added just the right amount of joy to make my heart grow three sizes. Any single parents who feel like they are taking one step forward and two steps back and or understand the pressures having children brings to this joy-focussed season will appreciate Mills’ message.
Is there more to life than blatant consumerism?
Spectacular characters and a fresh perspective set against a small village at Christmas make this a wonderful book you’ll want to place on your holiday reading list.
I was gifted this copy by Canelo and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
I adore receiving books like this. They are so warm and filled with family and community spirit. It was such a joy to return to Foxmore Village. I think many readers will relate to Harriet and her situation.
Harriet is facing her second Christmas on her own since her husband walked out. With little child support, she’s struggling to manage financially.
When Owen, a passionate environmentalist and popular blogger, overhears Harriet bemoaning her situation, he challenges her to only buy second-hand until Christmas. What she doesn’t know is that Owen is reporting her journey anonymously to all his followers…
Though the challenge is proving successful, it’s not without its troubles. Can Harriet really keep her children and bank balance happy this way? How will she react when she finds her life documented online?
A festive romance with a lot of heart.
5/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Harriet broke my heart she’s a strong single mum trying to give her kids a good life. Owen is a tree hugger who gives her a challenge, this is a such sweet love story. Based around Christmas my favourite time of the year
