Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the arc audiobook.

I haven't read that many of Karin Slaughter's book, but I was very curious about After That Night.

This is a very unsettling, dark and disturbing story, I really like the narrator but it was a bit too lengthy for an audiobook for me to be able to follow everything that was happening. A physical copy would be easier to read, so my rating is based on the audiobook.

It was so good to have Will and Sara back even though it is in quite a heavy book! The night Dani Cooper died after being raped, Sara took it personally, but she didn't realize just how personal it would become. Although Will and Faith lead the investigation, this is Sara's story. If you've read Slaughter's Grant County series, you already are familiar with pieces of it (but you don't need to have read the series to understand this one). But After That Night really delves into that night in Sara's past that had such a tremendous impact on who she is today.
True to all of Slaughter's books, this one also is brutal and raw and real. Rape, death and loss are both crassly and graphically presented, as is the devastating aftermath and the failures in the justice system. If this is your first book by Slaughter, you should know she can be very graphic in her writing. As Will and Faith go rogue to investigate, they can't do so without Sara's help. Slaughter is the master of taking a gripping trauma and interweaving the personal stories of the characters. These are characters that continue to evolve in each book. So despite this working as a standalone, I highly recommend both the Grant County and Will Trent series. They are extraordinary!
Narrated by Kathleen Early, who did a phenomenal job bringing the words and emotions to life. Early has an uncanny way of emoting the pain and fear of the characters. She was the perfect narrator!
Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for my gifted audiobook.

Karin Slaughter has a way to make you feel such unease with her books. This was phenomenal. The audio was really well done too. Highly recommend.
It is graphic and disturbing. It’s gripping. Leaves you wanting more.

Karin Slaughter has been one of my favorite crime authors since "Pretty Girls" and "After That Night" is just as thrilling. Another win!

Another great book from Karin Slaughter! This is book 11 in the Will Trent series and I was honed from the start. It's graphic and gripping, with well developed characters. I won't write a blurb since so many others have, I'll just leave my review with if you have the chance to read this, I highly encourage you to!

* thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy. After That Night releases on August 22.

After That Night is labeled, on Goodreads, as Will Trent book 11. I feel like it should actually be a Sara Linton story. It is technically a continuation of her story, but with Will investigating it. But, I was reading it more for Sara then Will.
As if Sara hasn’t gone through enough in these books, now we have more of her horrible rape story. It’s a continuation of the circumstances that lead up to that night, with new information and characters added. Not going to lie, it’s brutal. Karin Slaughter holds nothing back, which is why I love her, but this book was difficult. But, rape is. So I get it.
I listened to this one, at work, without headphones. Might not want to do that if you listen at work. My boss did walk in on super graphic moments, which I apologized for and explained. With that being said, the narration was outstanding. I’m not sure I could have been any more immersed in the book. It hit me on an emotional level, hearing the pain in the voices of the characters.
Slaughter never fails, and I am glad we got more of Sara’s story. I feel like this is the conclusion of that horrible moment in her life, Atleast I hope it is. I could use a good serial killer story after this one. You know, something to brighten the mood..

Karin Slaughter is a creative genius. A master of police procedurals. She crafts a multi layered story, one that is complex yet easy to follow.

Her characters are fantastic and After That Night is no different.

I have read all of the Will Trent series, as well as the Grant County series, but this is the first time I listened to her stories on audio book and it was phenomenal.

I’ve read or listened to many of the books in this series, which perhaps is why I found this entry so disappointing. The story of a series of rapes and their perpetrators should have been riveting and an excellent opportunity to make important points about how women are targeted and abused. But the twists and turns in the plot lead to a nearly-unbelievable solution to the rapist’s identity. Characters who appear throughout the series appeared to be formulaic and the entire book is much longer than it needed to be. I hope that the next installment in the series exceeds the quality in this one.

Another disturbing story that is told so well that you just can't put it down. You have to know what happens next! I absolutely LOVE the character building that Karin does with her series. This is no exception. It was awesome to get a look into Sarah's past and see how it all winds together with the present case. I'm ready for book 12 now! Great narration as always!

Slaughter delivers another well-written, intricately plotted, and tense thriller! Be warned that it is graphic and disturbing as Slaughter unflinchingly explores violence against women, the devastation of the victims, and the flawed system that struggles to bring perpetrators to justice.

Balancing the darker parts of the story are romance, humor, the dynamic and well-rounded MCs, and a great cast of returning secondary characters. Slaughter's writing style immediately hooks you and immerses you in this world. I always enjoy the fascinating details of the investigative and medical aspects of these books. Fast-paced, chilling, and twisty, fans of the series will enjoy this continuation of Will and Sara's journey. It kept me on the edge of my seat! However, this would work as a stand-alone too.

As she has the previous books in this series, the talented Kathleen Early narrates and delivers another fantastic performance! Bringing every character fully to life, she nails their voices, personalities, and emotional nuances. Her narration amplified the tension and suspensefulness of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the opportunity to review this ALC.

LOVED this. I tandem read the audio and the ebook for this one. The narrator did a wonderful job and I enjoyed the narration a lot.
The book itself was a gripping story that had me not wanting to put it down. I feel like I just lived through an episode of Chicago pd meets criminal minds (less gorge for sure though). I will say please please read triggers first the main subject here is rap€.

I haven't been so immersed in a thriller like this in a long time.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing & NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

This genre isn’t my go to, but wow I was really impressed with this one. The characters were flushed out so well, the puzzle pieces and how they were pieces together kept me intrigued. I was emotionally hooked, which is important to me with any read. The topic of rape was delivered so gracefully. I loved it.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. Going to find my next Karin Slaughter read now!

I adore Karin Slaughter’s writing. The Will Trent series is incredible. After That Night is an intense read with pages full of tragedy, loss, and delusion. Will, Faith, Sarah and the gang wade through the filth and despair with grit, heart, love, and a touch of necessary vengeance. They keep getting better and better.

Each novel in this series brings new cases, deeper relationships, and a greater understanding of these characters. I cannot wait for more. Run don’t walk to read this one.

During her shift in the ER, Dr. Sara Linton is treating Dani Cooper after a brutal attack. Unfortunately Dani succumbs to her injuries and in her dying moments Dr. Linton promises the young woman justice. Three years later when she is on the stand as an expert witness against the perpetrator of these horrific crimes, information comes to light that not only connects Dani’s attack to an attack that Sara herself suffered 15 years earlier, but also suggests that they weren’t the only victims. Special Agent Will Trent, who is Sara’s fiancé, and his partner Faith Mitchell decide to risk everything by taking on the case without their boss’s approval, risking it all in order to save future victims.

This is an absolutely gripping and totally disturbing addition to the Will Trent series, that can be read as a stand alone with no problem. This one pulled me in from the very first scene in the ER. Once you’ve read the opening scene it’s impossible to not want to see the absolute piece of human filth responsible for this disgusting act be brought to justice. The story was fast-paced and kept me invested. I also loved the writing! Being in the medical field myself I can definitely tell that Karin more than did her homework! *Also very important to mention- definitely check TW’s on this one.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing- Audiobooks for this ALC in return for an honest review!

Thank you to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for an advance audiobook.

I’ve been making my way through the Grant County and Will Trent series for a few years now and I can say with certainty this is one of my favorite books in the series.

In both series, we usually have a big cast or characters while also checking in with our main characters but this book focused a lot more on our main characters: Sara, Will, and Faith. I really enjoyed getting to know all three of them even more.

It is up to them to solve a brutal attack from Sara’s past while figuring out how it is connected to the attacks happening in the present. It allows us to see the characters in different roles, instead of the normal GBI they have to take on a lot of this investigation by themselves.

Like all of Karin’s book the subject matter is really hard to read about so don’t go in thinking this will be lighter than any of the others. Karin is able to mix really hard topics with thorough police and medical examiner procedures. It also amazes me about how much research she must have to do for every single book.

Can I also say, I hope Kathleen Early narrates every Karin Slaughter book forever??? She’s a big part of why I love her books so much.

TW: kidnapping, stalking, sexual violence, domestic abuse.

Holy cheesus on a cracker. Where did the little powerhouse come from? Here I am minding my own business and this story comes up and knocks me off kilter. This is a story of pure genius.

This is a HEAVY story with a lot of things at play. Please proceed with caution. TW: SA, childhood trauma, physical abuse, non-consensual drugging and probably some that I'm forgetting, honestly. Please check all the TWs before diving into this. When I say that parts of this are deep I TRULY MEAN IT WITH EVERYTHING THAT I AM.

Do you like your mystery/thrillers with a side of snark, family drama, romance, childhood trauma and a whole lot more? Yeah? Me, too, friend.... me, too. This book is one that you are not only going to want to read, but I think that you're going to want to make sure to buy yourself a copy ASAP.

Kathleen Early continues to do an excellent job narrating the Will Trent series!

Note: this book can be treated as a standalone-- I have read some (but not all) of the Will Trent books, and I was able to follow the plot with no problem.

Plot: 15 years ago, Dr. Sara Linton experienced trauma that continues to haunt her. Even so, she has been able to establish herself as a doctor, as well as become engaged to a man she loves. One night, while on call in the ER, a patient's case parallels Sara's experience. As the GBI investiates this young woman's case, it is apparent that there may actually be a link between the trauma these two women endured.

Thoughts: Gosh I just love the Will Trent world. I could go on and on about how much I adore Karin Slaughter and her totally messed up mind. The stand out aspects for this book, at least to me, is the way that she links the cases to the main characters. Because of the ways in which Sara's past are so entangled in the case, you as the reader become even more invested.

This book was great, but bone chilling to read.
From the beginning, you know some people Sarah was once classmates with, had a dirty hand in the story, but watching the main characters piece together each clue and bringing the case to a close was satisfying.
Trigger Warnings: Rape, Stalking, Domestic Abuse, Graphic Descriptions
Huge Thanks to NetGalley and the author for this advanced copy of the book!
This will be released on 8/22/2023!

After That Night by Karin Slaughter

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m not going to lie, It took me a couple days to be able to write a review about this one. I can truly say I did not solve this mystery on my own before the end of the book, and I am still shocked by how horrific and explosive the ending was.

This Will Kent series novel follows a few main people. Sara, Wills fiancé, was raped over a decade ago. Her rapist was convicted and put in jail. But when a young woman comes into her ER barely conscious, claiming that she was raped, Sara vows to not let her down, and to put her rapist behind bars as well. Will and Faith, both with the GBI investigation team, start up their own investigation, outside the departments knowledge, to help Sara avenge this young girls death by finally putting the man they know raped her behind bars. During their secret investigation, they find links between Sara’s rape case, along with a couple others.

This book was so addicting, but bone chilling to read. I felt like I was watching an insider scoop on a real life detective case. From the beginning, you know some people Sarah was once classmates with, had a dirty hand in the story, but watching the main characters piece together every link and finally bring the case to a close was so satisfying. Karin slaughter killed it with this new release.

Trigger Warnings: Rape, Stalking, Domestic Abuse, Graphic Descriptions

A new Will Trent book from Karin Slaughter - After That Night.

"Sara discovers that a woman that she tries to save in the ER has a connection to the assault that Sara suffered 15 years ago. GBI Agent Will Trent and his partner, Faith, start an off-the-book investigation and discover other cases and one other thing....the past will not stay buried."

This is another great riveting Slaughter story. And she doesn't hold back on the violence and verbal abuse that women endure just because they're women. Sara is forced to relive her assault several times at diferent parts of the narrative. Slaughter includes several triggers and the story turns brutal at times. If you read Pretty Girls you know what to expect. If you haven't read any books by Slaughter, be aware that she doesn't hold back on the realities of violence against women.
I did not want to put this down because Slaughter keeps the pace racing. The ending is explosive and wild.

Another great audiobook performance from Kathleen Early, who always does a phenomenal job with Slaughter's books. The final showdown was nuts.

Crime fiction fans will want to add this to your 2023 reading list.
