Karin Slaughter is an auto read author for me and when I want to be quickly pulled into a book, she’s a go to for me! Just like her other books, this one drew me in quickly. However this wasn’t a favorite for me. It is tough subject matter and at times I felt like it was really repetitive without moving the story forward. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the free audiobook - the narration was excellent.

I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.

There is no author who writes crime fiction like Karin Slaughter. I committed to the Will Trent series a year ago and it amazes me how each book gets better and better. While her stories are dark and disturbing, they are so tactfully written and well-researched that as you read, it feels like you are following a true crime segment.

Full review to come as I gather more thoughts but if you are okay with graphic scenes and more disturbing content (rape), do not pass on this suspenseful thriller.

The audio for each of these books too is narrated beautifully by the amazing Kathleen Early.

This was, hands down, one of my favorite Will Trent books of all time. I was so excited to get an ARC of the audiobook (because Kathleen Early is an EXCEPTIONAL narrator) and the moment I went on vacation for work I started it and couldnt put it down. Karin Slaughter just gets better the more she writes. I cant put into words how much I loved the characters in this book. Not only Will and Sarah, but Faith and Amanda and even Jeremy now .. the cast of characters just keep getting better and better. There were times in this book when I was laughing so hard my husband thought there was something wrong with me (Thanks to Faith, mostly. She just gets funnier and funnier), and times when I was sobbing my eyes out (that would be Sarah…what she went through broke my heart). This was probably one of the best of all of Ms Slaughters books Ive ever read.

I want to say, without giving spoilers away, that as someone who has gone through SA, I think Ms Slaughter absolutely nailed the aftereffects of that tragedy… at least for me. I thought it was so brilliantly handled. Every time something hard comes up in these books, it’s handled with tact while also keeping me engaged. This was no different.

Between the mystery and the personal issues happening with our fave characters, this was a total slam dunk for me. I can not wait for the next installment, and im a little sad that im caught up with these books because Ive been reading them for so long and I dont want the series to be over… even if its only over until the next one comes out.

Also— as per usual, the mystery part of this case was so good. I was on tenterhooks the entire time and was honestly BAFFLED with the way it turned out. I honestly didnt see that coming. I just love watching how well Will, Sarah, Faith and Amanda’s brains work together and I love that Sarah was able to confront both her past and present at the end.. I think it was the perfect way to come full circle for her.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh. My. Gosh. This book was fantastic!!!! The ending was an absolute shocker. Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite thriller authors and she knows how to write one that hooks you from the beginning and has you guessing the entire time.

“You know I don’t trust men who wear glasses. Why can’t they see?”

What does it say about me that Karin Slaughter is my comfort author? If you’ve read anything by her, you know the stories she tells are dark and grisly. I’d say this is one of the more disturbing of the Will Trent books but I can confidently say it was one of my favorites. The talent she has for keeping the same characters fresh across nearly a dozen books (more if we add Grant County) never ceases to impress me. That we can continue learning more about Will and Sara despite having so much already is such a treat. I appreciate how Karin Slaughter can tie in prior events and characters without it ever feeling a cheap way to advance a story and I especially love how, despite the horrific content, there is still room for genuine comedic relief (the quote shared above actually made me laugh out loud). In my opinion these books can be picked up out of order as lots of the gaps are filled in but I do love this series so much and will always recommend starting from the beginning if it sounds like your type of read.

Kathleen Early is a phenomenal narrator for these books and I hope her partnership with Karin Slaughter continues for a long long time.

Major TWs for all kinds of things so take care in reading this.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for an audio arc of this fantastic book. As always, forever looking forward to more from Karin Slaughter.

I'm so thrilled that I was given the opportunity to review an early copy of the new Will Trent/Sara Linton book, After That Night. For all that don't know, this is my absolute favorite series. I love Karin Slaughter's books and compare every thriller to her storytelling!

This is Book #11 in the Will Trent series. Sara's complicated backstory has been teased since this first Grant County book and in After That Night, we finally get the details. Unlike the other books in the series, this book is all about Sara rather than a case that the GBI is working.

This story is a delightful slow burn. It's hard to tell how the different pieces fit together, but it's so satisfying once everything is explained. I liked learning more about Sara pre-Jeffrey, seeing Will go undercover as a rich asshole, Faith's willingness to fight for her friend, and Jeremy's role in this investigation. I did miss Amanda, who didn't appear until the end. After That Night is a very different feel from the previous Will Trent/Grant County books, but a thrilling read nonetheless.

If you're a Sara fan, I don't need to tell you to read this book. If this is your first book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Karin gives enough information about the backstory to keep you in the loop. I always recommend reading the whole series starting with Blindsighted, but I think if you start with After That Night you'll be hooked and want to read them all.

Kathleen Early's voice IS Sara's voice in my mind. She has narrated most (if not all) of the Will Trent and Grant County books, and she is just the perfect fit. I will be distraught if they ever switch to a different narrator!

As with all of Karin's novels, the story is disturbing, so it won't be for everyone. Check trigger warnings or DM me!

*CRACK* That is the sound of Karin Slaughter hitting it out of the ballpark once again!!!!!

Will and Sara are back, and this time Sara has an unwelcome blast from her past when a young woman who had been brutalized was brought into the ER. Years later, Sara is testifying in court for the young women's parents and finds herself up against Mac and Britt McAllister, two people she went to school with. Later in a restroom, Britt McAllister says something to Sara that will rattle her to her bones and bring back her own brutal attack and rape.

Gripping and shocking from the very first page! The whole gang was back! Woohoo! I loved seeing Will and Sara again working together while in the midst of planning their wedding (I can't wait!). I love both of their characters and look forward to reading more books in this series!

Plus, the supporting characters had a nice amount of page time as well which I loved. I adore them all, especially Faith. Slaughter also has a nice number of characters in this book which had me booing and hissing. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know how things were going to turn out.

With all of her books, After That Night is well written, well thought out, perfectly paced and riveting. Karin Slaughter does not shy away from brutal scenes or discussions which make her books feel even more real to me. Slaughter not only shows readers the effect that rape has on victims but shows predators as well. Her books may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love them!

I have been reading her books for years and she continues to deliver time and time again! This book had a nice number of twists, turns and revelations in addition to the tension which snowballed as the book progressed.

I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a fantastic job.

Well written, gripping, shocking, tense, and hard to put down!

Except for one book in the eleven audiobook series, Kathleen Early has been the steady reliable voice of Will Trent and later Sara Linton. She consistently brings to life these beloved characters and Karin Slaughter is lucky to have her as a narrator.

This installment is Sara-centric and it involves an unusually emotionally fraught version of Sara, unlike the often steadfast, intelligent and stubborn doctor who has fallen in love with the somewhat broken GBI agent, Will Trent. “That Night” might have meant the night Will finally proposed (back in the last book in 2020), something eager fans were wishing for, but instead it refers to a life-changing event that occurred when Sara was graduating medical school at Emory — a trauma that changed her professional path, long before meeting Will. As usual, Slaughter’s stories are intense, and Early does an incredible letting us experience Sara’s earlier terror and current bravery while trying to get justice for one of her patients and herself once she realizes their experiences are connected. Will is, again, an empathetic partner and accomplished detective. 5 stars!

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for a free advanced reer audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): YES Sara is famous for her green eyes: Will gave her his mother’s ring because it matched her eyes.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO Nothing was amiss.

I had read this book prior to listening to the audio book so I already knew how good the book but I actually preferred listening to it and having it read to me.
If this is your first or last Karin Slaughter book you are in for a real treat.
The narrator makes the book a really easy, enjoyable listen and I would definitely listen to other books read by her.
As for being back in the world of Will Trent, there is no better place to be!
I highly recommend the book to anyone and everyone.
The plot line is up to her high standards and there's just something about having a book read to you that I find really relaxing and curled up under the duvet being read a bedtime story takes me back to childhood and how my love of books began!

Huge thank you to Netgalley & the publisher for this ALC of After That Night by Karin Slaughter.

This is the 11th installment of the Will Trent series and it felt so good to be back with Will, Sara, Faith & Amanda! Per usual, Karin is not shying away from the horrors and dark depravity of the case they are working on and the history behind it. This book is a great example of why I always tell people to read Grant County and then Will Trent in order because it is just so much more emotional that way. I love Sara so much and with each book I just grow to love her more and the way she had to revisit her past in this one was so heartbreaking but I was also just so proud of her.

Will, Faith, and Amanda were hilarious in this one. I love their relationships and how they have grown over the series and they always make me feel like I am right there in the room with them. If Will and Faith are in trouble...I am in trouble. And I love it. I am so interested to see what happens with Jeremy after this one.

So so so SO good. I am now going to be in a deep depression because I finished this too fast and now have to wait until god knows when for the next one.

Sara Linton has reinvented herself after the tragedy that ripped apart her life two decades ago; she’s a successful doctor engaged to marry the man she loves. Then one night Sara;s world comes apart when a victim of a brutal assault shows up at the hospital where Sara works and her carefully constructed house of cards comes tumbling down.

I am obsessed with any book that @karinslaughterauthor writes. Book 11 in the Will Trent series, After That Night, is my favorite one yet! 💙 As always, Kathleen Early did a fantastic job with the narration of this book.

This book in the series goes back to the event that forever changed Sara, the night she was raped at Grady. When new rapes come to light in the present time that are similar to Sara’s, the GBI team investigates this one together.

Make sure you go ahead and get your pre-order in for this one! I already have mine in so I can own physical copy💙

Thank you @blackstonepublishing and @netgalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.

I accidentally requested this audiobook thinking that it was something else, but let me tell you, what an incredible surprise this book was. I have never actually read a Will Trent book, but I promise you, I am reading all the rest from the serious, because this book was so good. I’ve binged this entire audiobook in two sittings, the narrator was incredible, the writing was stellar, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I am now addicted. AND there is a TV show? Count me in.
