Such a brilliant read! The suspense built throughout the whole novel, the characters felt well rounded and even though it was the first book I read in the Will Trent universe, it still all made sense as a standalone. I did see the twist coming but it was placed very well that it still packed a punch.

After that Night is Book 11 in the series. However, at least for me it read well as a stand alone. I plan to catch up and read the rest of the series but I was able to drop right into the story and it drank me down. The book is gritty dark and written so well you feel as if you have dropped right into a real police investigation in real time. The storyline starts off with a tragic death at a hospital where a rape victim dies from her injuries and only her attending ER doctor Sara hears the confession that she had been brutally attached drugged and raped before her death. Sara promises the woman that she will find justice for her and stop the man who hurt her from hurting anyone else.
This brings up hard memories for Sara who was also raped 15 years earlier. But despite the trauma involved she intends to keep her promise. As the investigation deepens similarities arise that are uncannily similar to what happened to Sara. Is there a connection? Could what happened to this girl possibly be linked to Sara’s old case? Then other crimes begin to surface and everything she once believed about what happened to her 15 years earlier comes into question. Can Sara and Will uncover a corrupt criminal plot that has devastated lives for nearly two decades. Who is responsible and why.
I could barely put this book down. For anyone with sexual assault triggers be warned this book covers dark subject matter with brutal clarity and violent details. With that being said it was exceptionally well written and I highly recommend reading it! Absolutely heart stopping book.

Do you have a favorite genre that you like to read in the fall? I really love to read thrillers and mysteries in the fall. After that Night by Karin Slaughter was a riveting thriller that kept me on pins and needles throughout the entire story.
Doctor Sara Linton made a promise to a dying girl, Dani, that she would find who had raped and brutalized her. Years later as Sara testifies at a trial to convict Dan’s rapist, she discovers that this case may be linked to her own brutal rape fifteen years before. With help from her fiancé, Will Trent, and his partner, Faith, they investigate Sara’s rape as well as Dani’s to figure out if they can find the perpetrators. Will they solve this crime before they strike again?
This book kept me on the edge of my seat as Sara, Will, and Faith investigated the crime and put the pieces together. Even after you think you know what’s going on, there is still a slight twist at the very end. The crimes were horrifying and made me want to lock my daughter up to keep her safe. It’s sad to know that there are people like that out in the world that only think about themselves and their gratification and not about the people whose lives they’ve destroyed.
What I loved even more than the suspense were the characters and their relationships. I loved Sara and Will’s love story and finding out more about them. They are on the verge of being married so they have that on their minds as well. Faith is a great partner, worried mother, and Sara’s best friend. Faith wants what is best for her son who is soon graduating from college, but is what she wants, what he wants? I have only read the last few Will Trent books and I really need to go back to the beginning of this series and read from the beginning. I do feel you can read them as standalone as they give background on the characters. I have not watched the show yet, have you?
Kathleen Early was a great narrator. This was yet again another audiobook that made me want to keep driving just so I could keep listening to the story. It was a perfect book for the end of October and beginning of November.

I was wary to start this one since I've never read a Will Trent novel before, but honestly it didn't affect the story too much other than maybe missing a few little easter eggs the author may have sprinkled in with the plot. The audiobook was done really well, I enjoyed the narrator's voice. It was clear, concise, and engaging. There was a lot of introspection with the main character, Sara which I think took a bit of the suspense out of the story. There were a few parts I was waiting for the story to move along a bit and a lot of the excitement and thrill came towards the end, which made up for the slower parts. I love Karin Slaughter for her prose and the fact that she never shies away from brutality and violence. While I understand that might not be everyone's cup of tea, as a true crime junkie, I EAT IT UP every time. I might have to go back and start reading all the Will Trent books now! 4/5 *CHECK TW*

I honestly don’t know how to describe my feeling right now.
It’s another story about rape, beautifully written, and horrifyingly true.
It’s something that nobody can imagine but nonetheless happens everyday around us.
I started the book and couldn’t put it down until it was finished.
Thank you net galley for giving me this opportunity.

Holy hell this book was hard to get through. The writing was great…the content was rough. Heads up: there are a lot of triggering topics so Google is your friend if you are worried about how you will handle this one.
Rich people, eh? I tell you what, if nothing else, thrillers have taught me that a lot of rich people are not to be trusted ever. This story was twisted on so many levels, and what it all culminated to in the end? My heart hurt and my stomach felt sick. Some books have twists and endings that don’t feel plausible, but this one…in the most horrific way, felt like it could actually be someone’s story. Those hit the hardest.

I've read a handful of Slaughter novels and I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns this one took me through. While to topic was heavy and the descriptives were heartbreaking, the end result was worth it . I had so much hatred for some many of these characters and how Slaughter was able to vindicate the victims, and Sara was just perfection. The setting put you right smack in a world of conniving, uppity, wealthy, people who thought that they could get away with anything and everything simply because they had money. And Brit's character took me wholey by surprise!

4/5 Stars
Slaughter does it again! This isn’t my first Karin Slaughter book, and the only Will Trent one I’ve read before was a Lee Child short story crossover - but that’s the sign of a good writer (imho). If you can join a series at book 11 and still pick up on the main, and supporting, characters foibles easily, these people really exist to their creator.
Will and his partner are unofficially investigating an attack on his fiancée, that has scarily similar echoes to current and past cases.
The narrative unfurls with pertinent information being revealed slowly - almost without you realising - and then becoming more important as the story develops. It’s engrossing and captivating and I binged this book because I needed to know how it was all going to work out (and if my assumptions were correct).
For me, it would’ve been a 5/5 if I hadn’t worked out the mastermind early on - if it had come as a big revelation at the end, as I think it’s intended to, it would’ve blown me away.
I look forward to starting this series from the beginning!

It's such a good book; Karin Slaughter's horror books are spectacular. I loved this audio book and it had some great narrators.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an audio-ARC of After That Night by Karin Slaughter.
After That Night is a brutally honest account of sexual abuse and corruptness. A bit too graphic and raw for my taste, but will appeal to many.

After That Night follows Sara Linton as she seeks to find a connection between her attack fifteen years ago and that of one of her patients. The investigation brings back some characters from Sara’s medical school days. Throughout the book their roles and awful crimes that they committed over the years revealed. Throughout it all, Sara is determined that justice must be found for those who go can no longer fight for themselves. I’m still not a fan of Sara and Will’s love story it seems so forced (#TeamJeffrey) but Karin does a great job creating their romance. Hopefully in the next book we will continue to see more of Faith and her life.
Thank you to @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for this complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review.

It’s hard to say that I enjoyed this thriller, not because it wasn’t a well-written book, but because reading about various forms of assault was heart-breaking! It definitely drew me in, especially when connections started being formed; the ending really threw me for a loop! I also personally liked that it was set in Atlanta and had a lot of medical content.
For the most part I liked the narration, but some of the accents were strange. The descriptions of the crimes were also very graphic, sometimes too graphic in my opinion. Overall, this book was thought-provoking and good for those who want a deep, psychological read! (This book is #11 in the Will Trent series, but it can be read as a standalone book.)
*I received a copy of this audio book from NetGalley*

I love Karin Slaughter. I love the Will Trent series. I love Sarah and Will.
So no pressure on her newest book in the series, right? But it was perfection.
In After That Night, Slaughter takes us back into Sarah's back story. Throughout both the Grant County and Will Trent series, Sarah has been haunted by the events of "that night." The night her life was changed forever. The night she was brutally attacked and raped.
As much as we know the overall situation, as readers, we don't know the details. Because Sarah has put the past behind her...until it comes to find her. An investigation that hits too close too home with too many similarities to her own story puts Sarah and Will on the hunt. The connections between what happened to Dani, the victim, and Sarah become undeniable and they soon realize that finding answers for Dani mean digging into Sarah's own past and her own harrowing sexual assault.
Sexual assault is not pretty, clean or neat and Slaughter doesn't shy away from it. This book is gritty. It's dark but not for dark's sake; you couldn't tell a story like this, shining a light on all that is ugly, without getting dirty. It's everything we've come to love about Slaughter...the OG Slaughter story telling if you will.
There are so many important messages about the realities of sexual assault and caring for assault victims told via conversations between characters. For that alone I would recommend this one.
Obviously, it's part of a series and I wouldn't read it as a stand alone. I highly recommend reading Grant county and the rest of the Will Trent series first. I don't think you can fully appreciate the depth of Sarah in this book without it. Just. So. Good.

Karin Slaughter always delivers a solid five star read for me and I’ve gotten accustomed to Katherine Early doing the narration for her audiobooks. This pairing was exactly the case for After That Night, which was just fantastic as this series is still going strong 11 books in. In this book we learned more about Sara and what happened to her fifteen years ago, as it connects to a current case they are on. This was wonderful, I love how Sara and Will’s relationship has evolved, and as always, the cases are great to figure out.
It helps to have read the other books in this series for the backstory at this point, but at the same time it is not required. But really, I cannot recommend this series enough, it is SO good! Thank you to Blackstone Publishing for the ALC to review.

After that night, everything changed . . .
Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton’s life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.
Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes. Sara battles to save a broken young woman who’s been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, led by GBI Special Agent Will Trent, it becomes clear that Dani Cooper’s assault is uncannily linked to Sara’s.
And the past isn’t going to stay buried forever…
What I didn’t realize going into this book that Will Trent and Sara Linton are recurring characters in a series! That excites me as I loved their characters and chemistry. Read as part of the series or as stand alone as I did and I don’t think you will be disappointed. I would recommend researching trigger warming before you pick this one up though. It kept me on my toes, you knew what direction the story was heading in but not which way the finger was pointing until the very end! Thank you @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!!!!

Another great book in the Sara Linton/Will Trent saga. While I generally liked the narrator, I absolutely LOATHED her Amanda voice. Why she decided to give a “different”voice to one character and not the others is beyond me. A minor quibble is why a southern accent wasn’t employed. Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

DNF. I have every intention of reading "After That Night" by Karin Slaughter in the future, but I fear I have missed out on 10 other books of critical information, dynamics between characters, world-building, and key elements that would have made me feel more connect to Will Trent and Sara Linton. The audiobook narration of what little I did finish is absolutely stellar and enthralling. In fact, I think it's partially because of Kathleen Early's narration that makes me want to explore this series as a whole. What I read so far is interesting and captivating, but I feel I am doing a disservice to myself by not reading the other books. I will amend my thoughts once I have read the series in full, but this has been great so far!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Karin Slaughter, and Blackstone Publishing for the complimentary ALC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for my review.

5 stars! Love everything about the new "Will Trent" book. The narrator keeps you hooked. Will and Sarah are two of my favorite book characters. It was great listening to more of Sarah's backstory play out.

Loved the cover, title, and narration. The cover and title made a person want to listen to this book. It is like when someone makes a comment on Facebook and they don’t explain themselves, so it keeps you wondering.
I was also explaining the book to another colleague and they stated how this book may not be a good book for someone who was raped. There may be too many triggers. I like how the characters were portrayed. There were little things that always kept you guessing. I thought I had the mystery figured out, but then I second guessed myself. In the end I was correct.

First thank you to Netgalley, the Author, and the Publisher for letting me read this!
OMG! I don’t want to give any spoilers but check the trigger warnings before you read this AMAZING book!
I’m definitely going to buy it! I’m shell shocked…if you love mystery and thrillers you will LOVE this book! ❤️❤️❤️
