Audiobook rating : a really good narration which kept me hooked and engaged in the story.

This is my first Karin Slaughter book ever. I have heard about famous Will Trent series but as series asks for the commitment I wasn't keen on reading it. So I thank Netgalley and Blackstone publishing audiobooks for letting me the audiobook in exchange of an honest unbiased review.

After that night is 11th installation in Will Trent series and although it is definitely better to read other books first to know more about background of the main characters, it in no way hinders with reader's understanding if one reads this as a stand-alone.

It has lot many trigger warnings like sexual and physical abuse, crude/crass words are used throughout the book. Some descriptions can be triggering so do read with caution.

It hits so many sore spots that I found myself thinking hard. Patriarchy, living in a world of white privileged men with money can be suffocating. We live in such a prejudiced world that if a woman says she is abused, we first judge her for her own attitude and dressing sense and it has portrayed really well in this book. At points, it gets difficult to continue the book. I had to stop several times as my mind would go numb with terror and shock.

It is not that you do not know what happens in abuse cases, you do and yet reading it felt so real and raw like opening a wound again and again before it healed. There are some loopholes, big ones to be honest which kept bugging me. It did not really make sense when we reach the climax.

Somehow I had figured out who would be the biggest culprit and even then lot many points made no sense considering the monster reveal.

I will definitely recommend it for thriller, mystery lovers or those who love detective series. Thank you again Netgalley and Blackstone publishing audiobooks for the amazing audiobook.

*thank you to NetGalley for the audio* “I enjoyed this” would be hard to say because it was very hard to read at times, but I could not stop listening. I was hooked. The plot was well thought out and everything tied up nicely in the end. It was very graphic at times which made it a little hard to stomach for me.

3.5 stars. I haven't read prior Will Trent or Sara Linton books so, I may not have been as invested into all the characters' backstory that keeps reappearing in this book. However, I'm a big fan of the author's other books so I had high expectations for this book; perhaps too high. The premise was intriguing, though extremely dark and *trigger warning* involving sexual assault. While it is billed as a thriller, though, most of the middle part of the book is police procedural. There's some risk to the characters of scaring off the suspects, sure, or getting caught in their investigation, but there's very little action or actual threat to life or limb in most of the book. In fact, a good chunk of it is rehashing events from the past, some of it repeatedly ad nauseum. I'm not sure how many more times I could hear the suspect names listed, first and last name, or entire sections of transcript from a conversation. Unfortunately, I was able to foresee the "twist" far enough ahead that it was not enough of a surprise to justify the preceding long-winded conversations. I think if I had realized it was more procedural than thriller, I would have approached it with different expectations, or chosen not to read it all. Instead, I kept waiting for something to happen, which, at the very end something does, but it fell flat for me.

Will Trent's neurodiverse character with a foster care past is interesting, so I may go back to read some of his earlier books. As always, I enjoyed Kathleen Early's narration. Thank you to the author, Blackstone, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book in exchange for a fair review.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

This is the 11th Will Trent book and Karen Slaughter keeps hitting it out of the park. This is another page turner and never a dull moment. In this book, Sarah is out to face past demons after a woman shows up in the ER with awful injuries and whispers her pleas to Sarah. Sarah knows she must face her past and Will is there to help at every turn.

I love how this book brings all the characters together to find out what is happening and how she keeps you on your toes throughout the whole book.

This was one of my favorite Will Trent books. I love how she brings Jeremy into the fold as a formidable character.

She did it again! I don’t know how Karin Slaughter always captures my attention, but I listened to this in one sitting. The narrator was great. Story was excellent. Karin has such a wonderful writing style that makes you feel like you know and can picture the characters.

‘After That Night’ was a five star thriller that kept me guessing the whole time! This was my first Karin Slaughter book, though I knew the background of Will Trent in this universe. The intricacies of this story kept me coming back for more. I was constantly able to connect pieces of the puzzle that ended with a satisfying result. The storyline kept me obsessed and the narrator was compelling and only added to the already fantastic novel! I devoured this audiobook in less than 48 hours and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read and review this amazing novel. I am now going to go back and get caught up on the Will Trent novels!

Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for giving me this audiobook in exchange for my honest review!

Sometimes when an author writes the same characters over a long period of years, the books and storylines become old hat and just plain boring.

This is not the case with the Will Trent series.

In After That Night we get an in depth look into an event from Sarah Linton’s past that had been mentioned but not seriously delved into. Very glad that Slaughter took on this particular storyline. It leaves us loving Will, Faith, Amanda, and Sarah even more and craving the next book.

“Change tells you who you really are.”

After That Night follows Sara Linton as she seeks to find a connection between her violent attack and those of other victims. The search reveals numerous characters and an extensive timeline of events. Throughout it all, Sara is determined that justice must be found for those who go can no longer fight for themselves.

Pros: Whodunnit with some interesting police work

Cons: WAY too long; many unnecessary crude/crass comments and dialogue; many unlikeable characters

I went into this title not realizing it was part of a series. It can be read as a standalone, but I was still left with unanswered questions. The book was incredibly long and slow-paced. It FINALLY picked up towards the end. I may read from this author again, but was disappointed in this book.

Thank you to @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for this complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first Karin Slaughter book and I’m not sure how that’s possible! I’ll definitely be starting this series at its beginning so I can get “caught up”. I have a feeling I’m about to become a huge Will Trent fan. Thankfully, I didn’t feel lost or out of the loop despite this being the 11th book in the series.

After That Night is dark and gritty (which I love for thrillers) but touches on serious issues like sexual assault so it might not be for everyone.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the advanced audio book of After That Night.
First I want to give a trigger warning about this book. This book involves topics of sexual assault, including rape, stalking, and physical and domestic violence.
This is book 11 in the Will Trent series in which Will and his partner Sara are not only planning their wedding, but are on their most difficult and emotional case yet.
Dr. Sara Linton was on shift when Dani Cooper came into the ER. She confessed to Sara that she had been raped right before she passed away from her injuries. Years later she is testifying to the emotional evening and trying to bring justice for Dani. Sara becomes haunted by her past and soon realizes there are connections between what happened to Dani and what happened to her 15 years prior.
Sara, Will, and Will’s partner and the GBI begin their own investigation and discover much more than they even imagined.
While full of deep content, the story is full of twists, great characters, a well-developed plot, and a twist at the end!

No one does it like Karin Slaughter! This book is the latest in the Will Trent series and it pulls in so much of Sara's life and solves the what if and what happened questions. I couldn't put it down. Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy!

Another amazing Karin Slaughter novel. This was my first audiobook of her novels & it was great. I enjoyed the narrator and the depth she brought to the voices.

It was enjoyable to learn more about the characters and feel the personal struggles they faced while pursuing these cases that are so close to them. The secrets they unraveled just seemed to keep coming until the end and the final piece falls into place.

Huge thank you to #BlackstonePublishing #Netgalley and #karenslaughter for the gifted copy of #AfterthatNight. So far it is my fave thriller of 2023, I binged this book in a day and will be going back to read the other Will Trent Sara Linton books in this series.
How was this not the first book in the series ? Patricia Cornwell fans will love this book, there is such perfect blend of forensics, FBI undercover ., police and court detail. If Lawand Order SVU fans met in the middle with Criminal Minds and Grey's Anatomy first year memories this book would be it.
I was on the edge of my seat , I really didn't think Sara would be the one to slay this group, but I was on my feet cheering for her at the end of the book . The intricate detail , and the way Slaughter let small detail by small detail out at a time unraveling the case was perfection. I really didn't know who the mastermind of this group was until Sara figured it out ., the shoes as trophies should have given it away but I was completely shook!
The side characters the reader gets completely invested in ; Faith and her relationship with Jeremy, and her son growing up . Amanda and her relationship with Will and how proud she is of him and Sara and how she is wanting to be involved in their wedding ! I love how Sara could care less about her engagement ring except that it is from Will. There are so many things in this book to hook a reader in this series. I love that Will is on the neurodivergent spectrum and he has never let it slow him from being successful in the FBI. I would love to see Jeremy being accepted to Quantico and have him be a computer hacker into the Dark web like the computer savvy character in Criminal Minds.
The narrator was excellent with all the different character voices , next book in the series I hope Blackstone considers a full cast.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for providing an audio arc for this book.
All opinions are my own and of my own free will.
Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton's life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.

Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes when a woman comes in who has been attacked. This crime and Sara's attack are linked.
Triggers: Rape, shaming, violence, very strong language
Rating in my personal opinion 18+
Wow what a book, as usual Slaughter delivers. Her medical knowledge and the research into this area for the book shows how focused and dedicated Slaughter is to deliver and exceptional book.
The narrator was brilliant, I sometimes lose interest with audio books if the narration is spot on and for Karin's book it was exemplary. I'd honestly recommend this book as an audio.
It's a good pace, not too fast nor slow in any way. You don't lose track of what's going on nor the plot. It's intriguing and has you holding on to see if they can catch the attacker.
It's also somewhat distressing as there are certain scenes and explanations that really make you think about what some women have actually physically and mentally been through. Nonetheless this is a brilliant book and Slaughter has always been one of my favorite crime/thriller authors.
Highly recommend.

This author can do no wrong! I listened to this one and read the ebook (switching back and forth) both formats were well done. It was exactly what I needed to pull me out of a reading slump. I would highly recommend it.

Originally, I did not think I could finish this book because it was so dark and the narrator. was so bad! The narrator made this book at times hard to comprehend. I find myself having to restart to get a better grasp. I also found both Tess and Sara pretty annoying characters and the narrator's voice as Tess was extremely annoying! This was my first Karin Slaughter read, so I am not familiar with the Will Trent series or main characters. I will say I find Will much more likable than Sara. I did like the Columbo/ Perry Mason feel of the story, but I do not find Sara as likable as Columbo, maybe more like Mason. The story and plot were very good but far too technical! We are readers not med students or medical professionals, although some readers may be medical professionals. However, the story could have been told with less technicality and would have flowed much better.
With all the technical jargon and the pitch and style of the narrator, it made it a bit hard to follow the trial. There are many triggers in this book such as violence, abuse, assault, sexual assault, rape, addiction, mental health and trauma. Thanks to Netgalley and Blackston Publishing for this arc for an honest review.

AFTER THAT NIGHT is an intense, dark, and deeply affecting story. Slaughter has a true gift for showing her readers all sides of a situation. She delves into the grit and underbelly of society while still allowing hope and moments of happiness to permeate the narrative.

For the eleventh time, I have entered back into the world of Will Trent and the GBI. Each time, I learn more about the characters as they tackle their latest investigation. This time around, it was personal. They were dealing with Sara’s past and trying to find a link between her case and two others.

It must be said that there are topics and incidents within this book that will make a reader uncomfortable and possibly could trigger some. Any time a writer deals with sexual assault, I ask myself why am I reading it. Many times, I stop reading. It can be too much or not feel right. However, for the authors that give the victims justice and a voice, I continue as I did with this one. The way Slaughter deals with the crimes committed is done with brutal honesty as well as reverence. There is a respect for the victims that comes through. For this, I applaud the author.

AFTER THAT NIGHT was an all-consuming read for me. The way the author unraveled the mystery and allowed the investigation to progress kept me on the edge of my seat. Slaughter continues to prove why she is simply the best at merging suspense, heart, and witty quips thrown in on the side.

Thank you Netgalley & Blackstone Publishing Audiobooks for an ALC of After That Night by Karin Slaughter. I think this is book #11 in the Will Trent series, and I was nervous as I haven't read any of the others. This one was totally fine listening to as a standalone - fantastic, actually - but now that I've listened I want to go back and listen to the entire series. I fell in love with these characters and as always, Karin did such a great job with their different personalities and tying in past stories/their backgrounds. The narrator knocks this one out of the park.

What's it about?
The book follows Will Trent & Sara Linton - 15 years ago, Sara's life was forever altered when she was violently attacked. She's now a successful doctor and has tried to leave the past behind her. That is, until she tries to save a young woman in the ER who's also been brutally attacked - And her attack is eerily similar to Sara's from almost two decades ago.

Guys. This one is wild. I hate giving TWs in a review as I don't like to give away any spoilers, but this entire book revolves around sexual assault - So if this is a triggering subject for you, please keep that in mind. It isn't just mentioned, it's described in detail throughout.

The story gets complicated, but Karin does a masterful job of crafting a wicked web that she weaves. Some of these characters are truly evil and despicable. This audiobook makes a rather long book with long chapters easy to breeze through - I wanted to listen every time I had to stop. Can't wait to see what comes next for Will & Sara.

I enjoyed this story. It had me hooked from the start. It was a little hard to follow in the audiobook format, I feel like I would have preferred the print version. The plot and character development were good. It was pretty predictable but still entertaining.
