Slaughter is a master storyteller from start to finish. Will Trent and Dr. Sarah Linton are, once again, characters in this book which makes it even more engrossing.
The narrator was fabulous. Her voice and pacing moved the story along at the perfect pace.
As always, the book is dark but this one seemed even darker than her others. It's impossible not to emerge from reading this book, a bit more knowledgeable about the intricacies of medicine. The subject of rape was discussed and dissected in a manner that really brought home the psychological horror of it.
This was certainly good vs. evil. What's redeeming is that no matter how evil some of the characters were, the good characters prevailed. The good relationships outweighed the evil ones and Slaughter knows just how to accomplish that.

As always, I can't wait for the next one.

I love the characters. I have been reading Linton/Trent books for years. I like how Sara has a large part of the storyline and I love the relationships between the characters. I also love hating the bad guys. I can’t wait for the next one and am so glad I got the opportunity to listen to this one early. It was a strong 4.5 so I rounded up.

I am glad it is the same narrator. I know what to expect and it is consistent.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher/producer for the advance audio.

Sooo, I didn’t realize this was the 11th book in a series when I picked it up, but if I’m being honest, I didn’t feel like I was lost at all while reading it - it absolutely can be read as a standalone.

I was in need of a good thriller and this book had me hooked from the first chapter! All of the interconnected crimes felt like a puzzle I had to piece together with Will and his partner Faith. There were so many layered crimes and so many people involved that it kept me on my toes. Slaughter touched on important themes of corruption and how money and good lawyers have a history of getting the rich out of unspeakable actions.

Even with all of the dark themes throughout the book, there was a needed warmth between Will and Sarah. They were such a likable couple who pushed and cared for each other in a fierce way.

I honestly could not put this book down so if you’re looking for a good thriller, this is it! However, it does revolve around some incredibly triggering and difficult topics so I recommend reading trigger warnings first.

Thank you Karin Slaughter, Blackstone Publishing, and Netgalley for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I had already read and review this book, so I am applying the same review to the audiobook version. It goes without saying that this book needs a BIG FAT TRIGGER warning for sexual assault, stalking, spousal abuse... I mean... this book is not for the faint at heart.

This was a tough read, but I expect nothing less by this point from Slaughter. Super gritty and triggering but also real and very 'ripped from the headlines'. The only thing that makes me feel better about reading this is knowing that justice is always served. I needed that after this one.

Loved the narrator! She kept me engaged and her voice was captivating. I felt like this was a series story so I felt kinda lost. But not lost enough to where I couldn’t enjoy it or understand what was going on. The character development was phenomenal. Karin was able to bring light to such a difficult topic and let’s virgins know they are heard and there are people who will fight for them.

Book Title: After That Night
Author: Karin Slaughter
Genre: Thriller, Suspense
Release Day: August 22, 2023
Format: Audio Book
Rating: Storyline 5⭐️ Narration 5 ⭐️

Synopsis: After that night, nothing was ever the same again

Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton's life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.

Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes. Sara battles to save a broken young woman who's been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, led by GBI Special Agent Will Trent, it becomes clear that Dani Cooper's assault is uncannily linked to Sara's.

And it seems the past isn't going to stay buried forever.

My Thoughts:
This was such a captivating storyline and characters. I had no idea this was book 11 in the Will Trent series and can be completely read as a standalone. But it had me longer for more of Will Trent and his partner Faith. I loved the character development and the twists. This was more of a crime thriller with a few intricate plot lines that woven together perfectly. The last few pages had me flabbergasted and mouth on the floor. Karin Slaughter can do no wrong in her thriller writing!

Kathleen Early's narration was phenomenal and so engaging! I will definitely listen to more by here.

After That Night by Karin Slaughter

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I got this ARC as an audiobook from @netgalley. I love Karin Slaughter and her ability to tell really gripping yet gruesome stories. After That Night was no exception to this.

The story could be quite triggering depending on what triggers individuals so i’d recommend checking the warnings before reading as there is a heavy focus on sexual assault.

I really did enjoy the story though- it follows on the Will Trent series but honestly I wouldn’t say it is super crucial to have read the rest of the series to read this book. A lot of the story is based on a crime group and Will is trying to solve this. There are ties to his personal life but I think they’re explained enough in the book itself that you could read this as a stand-alone book.

Another stellar installment in the Will Trent series! If you aren’t reading Karin Slaughter, you’re missing out! Received this as an audio book, and I’m so glad I did. The narrator immersed me in the storyline & brought to life the characters in such a way that at some junctures I thought I was there! Get the Will Trent Series added to your TBR then head over & watch the network show!

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Although this is part of a series, you do not need to read the other books to read this one.

This book follows Dr Sara who was raped 15 years ago. When working on a patient at her hospital who dies after being raped, she soon learns that it is all connected. Will (Sara's fiancé and also detective) and his police partner Faith are going to help Sara bring justice to her patient who died.

There was one plot twist I did not see coming but it was not ground breaking or all that shocking. This book was simply okay. However, I would still encourage other's to pick it up especially if thriller books are their main genre!

As with all Karin Slaughter books this has some very dark and disturbing topics, rape, dominance are a couple.
I really enjoyed how this book was very much about Sarah Linton, who is Will Trent's fiancé. I haven't read many of the books in his series but I'm most familiar with him from the TV show.
Sarah was completely invested in this mystery behind a suspected murder and rape. She had her own history with trauma and also with the accused's family. All these details made the story so much better.
I clearly also enjoy the tales of the wealthy and privileged behaving badly. This book has it all. Yes it's long, but I enjoyed it very much. Highly recommend.

The narration by Kathleen Early was excellent, she is easy to listen to.
Thank you to Net Galley and Blackstone Audio/William Morrow books for an early copy.

This is my first foray into the world of GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton. After That Night is the eleventh (!) in the series, and while going in cold meant there was a lot of their backstory I wasn't familiar with, that didn't keep me from catching on with this latest installment.

The action is fast, the subject matter grim. Sara is forced to relive her violent assault from fifteen years back when treating a patient brought in to the ER with similar injuries to her own, and she vows to find the attacker. It's very dark, and there's not a lot of relief to the onslaught of violence perpetuated on the women in the story. It's despicable.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Kathleen Early. It was easy to follow, with good characterizations, and her clear delivery helped ratchet up the suspense.

My thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC. After That Night was published in August 2023.

Thank you to @NetGalley and @blackstonepublishing for this advance audio! I loved listening hi Kathleen Early's fantastic narration of this dark and twisty thriller.
Iloved reading False Witness and Pieces Of Her so seeing this one come up I knew I wanted to read or listen to Karin Slaughter's latest. I had not tried the Will Trent series before needless to say I have now ordered the first two books and am eager to dive in !
We begin with Dr Sara Linton giving evidence at a trial of an incident in her ER that happened 3 years prior.
The similarities between the case she is testifying at and an attack on her 15 years before start Sara and her partner Will on an investigation of all these crimes - first on the side then as an official investigation.
I loved the cast of characters. Slaughter writes fully rounded, plausible people who all have their own demons but also an innate sense of right and wrong with the need to provide justice for innocent victims.
This book worked as a stand-alone for me even though it is the 11th book within the Will Trent series, but as already mentioned I now want to read the rest. This was dark and twisty and I was captivated.

I reccomend you don't read this book unless you are in a good place mentally. I feel like this book states a lot of important things about rape, however it was a very tough read. I absolutely loved it overall because as I said it is a very important topic stating how unsafe it really is for women and how far red pill will go.

A fantastic read and captivating audiobook! The story and the narrator kept me hooked, it felt like listening to a radio show. I had never read a book in this series, and it does not seem like it’s necessary to, with each book being a different case. This case, with Dani and Sara was hard hitting and intriguing. I felt for both of them.

Note: For squeamish listeners, I would NOT recommend the audiobook. Karin Slaughter is the queen of describing graphic scenes, and it can be hard to listen to.

Overall, After That Night has all the things we love about Will Trent. It's a mystery with twists and turns all over the place. I was engaged and interested the whole time, and couldn't put it down.

Whoa!

This one was indeed dark, and sinister!
I haven't read the previous books in this series, and I went in knowing that I may get a bit lost, but the author did a wonderful job of setting up the backstory that I didn't feel lost. I really want to go back and begin from the beginning of this series, so I hope to do that sometime soon.
I really enjoyed how complex the characters are in the book, and the twist was just great! The narrator, Kathleen Early did a well job portraying the characters and keeping me engaged throughout the entire listen.
I would suggest to check for TW, as some could be triggering for some.

Everything Karin writes is perfection and this one proves it once again.
It starts with a bang and from there is a non-stop, disturbing, grueling, thrilling and addictive ride. You won’t be able to stop reading.

Karen Slaughter can do no wrong. Karen’s writing style is unmatched by others. Her books are the perfect mix of creeepy and gripping. I will highly recommend this listen to all psychological thriller lovers. The plot was written so well and the way the narration delivered the contents was perfect. So great! Long, but so good! This is the part of the Will Trent series but can be read as a stand alone. It made me immediately order Tryptyk, the first in the series, and make it a goal to read all of the Will Trent stories! It was like a really long, really interesting episode of Law and Order SVU. I loved it!
