for the eighth book in this series, I had no trouble following despite not having read any other books by this author. I wasn't expecting the mystery aspect to this book which was great since I always love myself a good mystery and this one wasn't too predictable. The romance was still your typical historical romance grumpy/sunshine but I didn't especially minded it here. Both our characters were enjoyable and I appreciated them a lot in this book. Their chemistry was also very good and the spicy scenes weren't too cringe in my opinion. The writing style wasn't the greatest but nothing to bad I had to DNF. A fun historical romance that I'd recommend 100%. 3.75 stars.
Well this was certainly a I scratch your back you scratch mine. Vincent is the man! I totally love that he controlled a number of things except for Honoria. His willingness to help her help the homeless and needy was the heart warming part of the story. Honoria is the woman that takes over being the hero of the love story. The romance is a slow burn, but it proves to be exciting for the book. I would have like to read more passion and coupling from the couple. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Never the twain shall meet - or do they? Honoria, a wealthy widow was married to a bully who beat her and treated her harshly until his death. He was also significantly older than she. Vincent, the Hound of Whitehall is the bastard son of a Duke and keeps to the dark side of London.
Their paths cross when Honoria, while helping those less fortunate, is surrounded by six men and in peril. Vincent, steps in and chases the men away. Thereafter, he takes it upon himself to protect Honoria and all those women working for the betterment of those less fortunate than themselves while they are in the seedier side of London. Neither of them can stop thinking about the other though. Added to this, Honoria's sister, Henrietta, is kidnapped and held for ransom. Honoria approaches Vincent asking for his help to rescue her beloved sister.
What happens thereafter keeps you on the edge of your seat, while hoping very much that Vincent and Honoria. will have their HEA.

I have recently started reading Ms Bowlin's books and have loved them, and this one is no different. This is the eighth installment of her Hellion Club series. Honoria is a young widow. She didn't have a pleasant marriage, and because of her experience, doesn't have a high opinion of men. Her main purpose is to help those in need and she provides charity to the lesser desirable areas of London. Vincent is known as the Hound of Whitehall and rules the darker side of London, including the areas Honoria provides her help. Their paths cross one night when Honoria is being attacked, and ever since, neither of them can stop thinking about the other. Honoria knows she must stay away from Vincent, but when her sister is kidnapped, she has no choice but to turn to him for help. Though Vincent had a reputation for being terrifying man, he had a good heart, and strikes an interesting bargain with her and does everything he can to protect her and find her sister. What he didn't expect was to lose his heart to her.
This was an interesting and exciting story that pulled me in right from the very beginning and kept my interest till the very end. The characters were interesting and well-defined and I enjoyed following their story. Ms Bowlin does a great job of providing vivid descriptions and creating scenes that make the story and characters come to life. An intriguing and thoroughly captivating story! Glad to have had the opportunity to read this!

Vincent and Honoria have terrible pasts that keep them from getting close to anyone until they meet each other. I liked how there was a sort of friendship between them before they really got to know one another. Together they were stronger and helped each other to overcome what other people had done to them.
Intrigued by the set up for the next book in the series.
He Saved the Widow, and She Stole His Heart
Did the Hound of Whitehall have a heart? Some might say he did not, but his actions would prove otherwise. He commanded London's underworld, and he was ruthless. However, he rescued a widow from a gang of criminals, something a cruel man would not have done. Was it possible for two people, so far removed from one another to find their way to each other? There was attraction, but things would not come to a head until Honoria's sister is kidnapped. Honoria must ask Vincent for his aid, and his price was the lady in his bed. Was it too high a price? Perhaps, it would have been if the lady did not desire him. As with all this author's stories, I devoured this one in one sitting. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to those who like historical romance, where the protagonists come from different social classes and face difficult challenges.
A widow's devotion to help those in need in the darker side of London, finds her hero in the man who controls and sets boundaries. Known as the Hound of Whitehall, ever watchful, he is her protector. One kiss a year and a half ago leads to passion and love for the most unlikely couple. When her sister is kidnapped, he is the only one she can turn to. It's a complex web of lies and deceit to solve several murders and her sister's kidnapping.
Mild open bedroom door.
Bolen never disappoints in writing a book that grabs you from the beginning.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I just finished reading “A Dangerous Passion” by Chasity Bowlin, book 8 in her Hellion Club series. Honoria, a young widow, is a reformer who actively provides charity to the worse areas of London. Vincent, the Hound of Whitehall, controls the areas where Honoria works. He controls people with gathered information, favors, money, blackmail, and plenty of backup. Their paths cross one night connecting these two people. Their relationship continues to build until it leaps off the pages. What a great read. This story contained many elements that kept me reading until the final page. The relationship between Vincent and Honoria, they both tried to avoid it, realizing it would be a bad idea, but they were drawn to one another by a force beyond reason and logic. Their encounters were full of sexual tension followed by kisses that were soul searing. I could feel their heat rising from the pages. They are a steamy and passionate couple. I liked the fact that Honoria made the first move to take their relationship to the next level. That was only one element to the story. Mysteries surrounded them, women were beaten and killed. The perpetrator needed to be found because it was happening in the areas under Vincent’s control and where Honoria helped the downtrodden. Then the unthinkable happened, Honoria’s sister, Henrietta, was kidnapped, her husband refused to pay the ransom. Of course Honoria turned to Vincent for help. I liked the two main characters, they were from different backgrounds but shared some of the same experiences. Honoria was an outgoing, no nonsense type of woman trying to shake the stigma of her dead husband and Vincent was there to help her do it. He definitely lived in an area of grey but he did have a personal code and a line he didn’t cross. Honoria looked deeper and saw the truth of him. There were other memorable characters including Stavers, the man who raised Vincent and who filled many roles in the business and Vincent’s person life; Ettinger, former Bow Street runner and current private investigator, a man who knew how to ferret out the truth; Henrietta, Honoria’s sister, stuck in a loveless marriage with an abusive husband; Maurice Walpole, a young man who joined Honoria’s group of reformers and charitable workers, he was smitten with the young widow. All of these characters played a necessary role in the story. Definitely a five star read because of the well written plot with a myriad of interesting characters, and well written sizzle and steam between Honoria and Vincent. Recommended for lovers of the genre. I received this book from NetGallery, my review is entirely my own.
This is a lovely book. I’ve read a lot of books from this author and this one is really good!
Vincent and Honoria are an amazing couple! I enjoy all the interactions between them. The chemistry, the dialogs, the witty retorts, everything. Honoria fights for everything she values and he is there for her every step of the way. And the sexy times! So good!
This book is romantic and engaging, with the perfect amount of aghast. I enjoyed it a lot. Great couple and beautiful story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The man known as the Hound of Whitehall has dragged himself out of the lowest gutters of London and now has more power and influence than most of "the ton".
Mrs Honoria Blaylock is happy with her life as a widow. She tries her best to help all women victimised by men. Occasionally she needs help to rescue them.
This historical romance is part of a large series, but you can easily read it on its own.
Our hero is not the usual kind. He makes no pretenses of being a gentleman or even a good man. There is a dangerous villain about and a mystery to solve. You will never guess who the real villain is until our author tells you. Lots of excitement that will tempt you to read the rest of the series. They are all great stories.
I loved it.
He's a criminal...
VIncent Carrow is the Hound of Whitehall. He's the bastard son of a duke, who was raised in the gutters of the Mint. He was smart and strong and rose up to all sorts of legal and illegal activities. I would have given it five stars, as I enjoyed Vincent and the storng, determined widow Honoria (and her sister and Mr. Ettinger, cannot wait for that story) but we meet Vincent with a very poor choice of mistress and we have to suffer through a long chapter of he and his horrid married mistress that was totally pointless and painted Vincent in a bad light (he thought with his D and not his, we;l; other head).
Meanwhile, Honoria is passionate, helping to care for prostitues, had a horrid husband, and is strong and independent and can take care of herself, except for the night Vincent meets her, the same night he kicks his awful mistress to the curb.
Recommend.
A Dangerous Passion by Chasity Bowlin centers on the life of Vincent Carrow, acknowledged boss of London’s underbelly and much of that which is above board. He meets Honoria Blaylock, who can best be described as a reformer, one night when she was somewhere she didn’t belong and was being attacked by six men. Needless to say, they dispersed quickly when Vincent showed his face. He warned her away but for whatever reason, chose to kiss her. It was a kiss neither of them forgot. For Vincent, this meant eschewing other women. For Honoria, it meant uncomfortable dreams. The next time they came together, months later, the result was the same and they agreed to stay away, any more transactions between them should take place by post. They stuck to that for quite a while, until something so horrific happened that Honoria had no choice but to approach him for help, and pay whatever fee he requested.
Vincent is the “typical” criminal with a good heart. The fact is, he didn’t like people interfering with his domain and that included his people. Honoria felt the same way. Their people often intersected. Vincent was charming, charismatic, and very handsome. He was a terrific character. Honoria was straight-laced and sworn off men. She still wore he widows weeds, not because she morned her dead husband, but because it held off other men. She had been sold to a brute to gain her father’s entrance into society and had not spent one happy day in her ten years of marriage. Now, her younger sister was in the same situation, maybe worse. What was it about men that they had to belittle and demean? Vincent was there when Honoria needed help, even in finding a killer. What a terrific read it was. The mystery was decent and the characters are compelling. What more is required?

What a great romance! Hound is my favorite kind of hero - the damaged but reformable for one woman type. I loved the way he and Honoria met and continued on. The author’s descriptions made it so easy to see how they fell in love. A well-written book that you will enjoy.
On a whim, Vincent, the Hound of Whitehall saved widowed reformer, Honoria Blaylock, from a terrible fate… and in so doing, sealed his own. Then Honoria’s sister Henrietta is kidnapped a crime that occurred on his streets, without his sanction. So they strike a bargain. He’ll help Honoria save her sister, and in return, she’ll come to his bed for as long as he wants her there. With her sister missing and a monster prowling the dark alleys of London’s worst rookeries to prey on its most vulnerable habits, she’ll have to set her fears aside and put her trust in the same criminal who once saved her.
The eighth book in the series but it’s easily read on its own. A well written well researched book that drew me in from the start. I loved Honoria & came to love Vincent & loved their journey to a HEA. Vincent was a totally different hero but is he truly a villain? the real villain was a surprise & the author kept me guessing. A delightful romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The Hound “Vincent” has led a notorious lifestyle gaining money and favors. Although he is a Duke’s byblow, he wields power in the aristocratic world as the underbelly of London. Honoraria is a do-gooder who risks her life daily to try to help those less fortunate and on one evening Vincent has to save her life in an alley.
He becomes obsessed with her, wanting to be with her in every sense but he knows he will tarnish her reputation. Honoraria trusts no man after her father and deceased husband have abused her but she cannot get Vincent out her mind.
Some trials in their life include a kidnapping but the sheer emotion and the intensity of their hidden love for each other keeps you on edge and involved in their love story.
A Dangerous Passion is the eighth book in The Hellion Club series. This is the first book I have written by Chastity Bowlin.
The Hound of Whitehall has the reputation of an unsavory man; however, he is the son of the Duke of Clarendon. But he has kept this secret well.
Widowed Honoria Blaylock tries to help those that need help and are unable to get it. Honoria's sister has been kidnapped and having nowhere else to turn goes to the Hound of Whitehall to ask him for a favor. The terms are clear, and Honoria has agreed to them. The Hound and his men search for Henrietta who has been kidnapped. Honoria is in danger from an unlikely source. After the Hound learns the truth, he races to save Honoria.
This was an interesting story which included The Liberty of the Mint. I don't believe I have ever heard or read about this. It was truly fascinating. I like to read historical romances for several reasons. First, obviously is the history that is woven into a fictional book. Second, I learn something new that I wouldn't have learned otherwise. Finally, the enjoyment when it all comes together into a wonderful story.
I loved the love story of Vincent and Honoria. He has been protecting her from afar for years. She has never stopped thinking of him, even as she remains sure she does not need another man in her life. Honoria is strong and willing to go for what she wants, even in the face of tremendous fear. Vincent loves her for who she is, even as he cycles through feelings of insecurity that he hides behind cold gruffness.
The mystery element was not super suspenseful but it allowed the romance to take center stage. A good amount of steam, and main characters who actually choose one another.
4.5 stars rounded to 5. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.
Chasity Bowlin captured my heart with her flawless words, deep emotions and not so perfect main characters. This was a beautiful love story with all the feels involved and one that I will re-read many times over. An emotional romance that is a MUST READ.
Honoria, a widow who has no use of men, turns to crime overlord Vincent to help her deal with who is preying on the prostitutes in the poorer sections of London. She also needs him to find her kidnapped sister. Attracted to each other, Vincent demands favors for himself. Does he ask too much? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
