Ms Ballenger has done it again. This is Corbin and Dani's story. Dani wants Corbin but he is playing hard to get. She is a hunter and he is a vampire and head of one of the most powerful vampire families in the US. My only complaint is that the novella is too short but alas, it was not a full book. The series is an exciting one that will pull you in, however this is a standalone offering. Brava as always.
THE VAMPIRE’S HUNTER is a contemporary, adult stand alone, paranormal romance novella in the author’s ROGUE BROTHERHOOD, a spin off, set in the EXECUTION UNDERGROUND world. This is vampire Mafia boss Corbin Blackwell, and waitress Dani Harper’s story line. THE VAMPIRE’S HUNTER can be read as a stand alone, you do not have to have read the previous series.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Corbin and Dani) THE VAMPIRE’S HUNTER follows the search for Lucien, a vampire trafficking humans, a vampire who destroyed Dani’s life. Dani’s brother Quinn works for Execution Underground, and our heroine has experienced with worst of the worse. Hoping to get information on the vampire, Quinn pushes Dani to seek out the one man that controls her heart. Enter vampire Mafia boss and head of the Cosa della note syndicate Corbin Blackwell, and the man with whom Dani has fallen in love. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Corbin and Dani, and the potential fall-out as their need for revenge threatens the life of our story line heroine.
The relationship between Dani and Corbin is one of unrequited love. Dani has been in love with Corbin for as long as she can remember but believes Corbin wants nothing to do with her love. Corbin has loved and lost, and in this refuses to place Dani in the face of danger but their need for revenge against the vampire that destroyed Dani’s life is about to implode, and Corbin is forced to claim Dani for all time. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced Corbin’s right-hand vampire Kharis; Mafia vampire boss Angelo, siren Cassandra, vampire Lucien, as well as Dani’s brother Quinn,.
THE VAMPIRE’S HUNTER is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is enchanting and inviting; the romance is spicy; the characters are desperate and wounded.

Every since Buffy I've been a sucker for all things vampires even when it's a little on the cheesy side. And I'm always going to be a sucker for the stories involving vampire hunters.
Action packed, heart racing journey filled with dangerous and exciting charters, witty dialog, emotionally thrilling twists and edge of your seat turns. A highly entertaining read from beginning to end.
have loved every book Kait's written. This is set in her Rogue Brotherhood and helps us understand what lead to Rogue Wolf Hunter that released last year. Quinn Harper works with The Execution Underground protecting humans from the supernaturals. He approaches his sister Dani for help infiltrating the vampire Cosa della notte syndicate because she was freed from he abusive ex Cillian who was part of it. She and Corbin Blackwell, an ancient vampire and a top figure in the syndicate, have history and we finally get their story. She's loved Corbin for a long time and he has been keeping his distance thinking it will keep her safe. It hasn't as evidenced by Cillian, and she calls him on it. The Execution Underground wants to bring down Lucien who was Corbin's sire. Corbin wants to get revenge on Lucien for turning him and not teaching him about his new reality which lead to the death of his wife. This story brings everything to the surface and I loved seeing it all sorted out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.
A quick read but packed full of action. And spicy romance.
Loved ever page
Recommend.
This was a different turn on the vampire genre of fiction reading. A mafia romance intertwining with vampires had caught my interest from the get go. Each page was spicy all the way to the end connecting the readers to how much the main characters felt about each other, passionately. Even though this is a quick read, there is a need for another round of edits which in the end, would make this a four star rating.
All in all, this book is a fast paced read that has the readers hooked from beginning to end!
This was a great story to get lost in for an afternoon. This didn't feel like a novella, the story moved along really well. Normally novellas are "wham bam", but this one took its time. Well done.
Overall a good story. Like this author and decided to give this one a try. I liked it overall, but the mafia stuff was easy for me to skim. Sorry. Otherwise would highly recommend.
I fell in love with Kait Ballenger's 7 range shifter series. This continues the tales of a rich vibrant world only she creates. I will grab her books without reading the description knowing I will be Immersed in her world. I would rate her stories as wonderful as some of the greats in paranormal romance.
Vampire mafia romance like you've never seen before! For fans of spicy paranormal romance comes Kait Ballenger's action-packed Rogue Brotherhood series, featuring this dark, sexy standalone novella. When human waitress, Dani Harper, escaped her abusive, supernatural ex, she thought she'd never return to the Cosa della notte syndicate, until a twist of fate sends her running back into their vicious, glittering world, and straight into the arms of a wicked vampire, who once broke her heart. Vampire mafia boss, Corbin Blackwell, is out for revenge against the monstrous vampire who sired him long ago, and with stunningly beautiful Dani playing the role of his fake mistress on his arm, he may just pull this hit off. Except Corbin doesn't account for the very real feelings he has for Dani, and when push comes to shove, Corbin finds himself forced to choose between the woman he loves, and the plot for revenge which consumes him.
Ok let me start by saying that I love the anti-heroes and Corbin definitely fits that bill in ways I wasn't expecting! But I loved him! He and Dani have a history that I wasn't really expecting, but I really liked. But there is also more to Dani's history than I was expecting. So if you have some triggers, I would definitely check out any trigger warnings in case they might be something that will hit hard for you. I really enjoyed her character and how much she has been through and come through. My only issue with this book? I wish it had been longer. Because it is a shorter book, it almost felt like the ending was rushed. That was the only thing that knocked it down for me. Everything else? I loved! And since I do love vampires, it was right up my alley for me!
I loved Kait’s Seven Range Shifters and recognized immediately who the characters were in The Vampire’s Hunter since they were in Cowboy Wolf Outlaw. If you have not read that series or her Rogue Brotherhood, you should add them to your TBR since this novella is set in the same universe as those books. Quick Note: You don’t have to read that book to enjoy this one because this book can be read as a standalone.
This book does lean into a darker paranormal romance, so I recommend readers check their triggers.
The FMC Dani Harper, who I remembered in Cowboy Wolf Outlaw, and she’s a human who knows about the supernatural world because she was in an unhealthy relationship with a vampire that was anything but nice to her. She’s working and trying to avoid anything supernatural until her brother stops by her work, asking for her assistance. He knows she is the only one that can help since she’s familiar with the Cosa della notte syndicate. Now, she finds herself in the same predicament as before, but the only one who can protect her doesn’t want her to return to his world after what happened before to her.
What I loved most about this novella was how Kait Ballenger made the MMC Corbin Blackwell’s character true to a mafia boss and how they normally would be portrayed, especially in the movies/tv shows. He’s not going to be a likable character at first, which, if you have seen any real-life mafia documentaries and how they were, then you’ll understand. (I’ve watched so many documentaries thanks to my husband, who is obsessed with the mafia, and yes, I’ve seen almost every mafia-made movie out there, not only because of him but my father too.) That being said, Corbin may agree to protect Dani and give her what she wants, but can she really trust him?
I loved Corbin’s character and didn’t have any complaints about him. But, I’ve always been a fan of the alpha a-holes in books (to an extent), but with any character, he has a backstory that makes him the way he is, and it makes sense.
Dani’s character wasn’t my favorite, but that’s okay. She may be some other reader’s favorite. I wouldn’t say I liked how she agreed to be thrown back into the world she was saved from in Cowboy Wolf Outlaw. I knew she was drawn to the supernatural world and had feelings for Corbin, but she definitely put herself at risk. She wasn’t the typical strong heroine I normally read in PNR books, but that’s okay because even though I didn’t connect with her, other readers may like her.
Dani and Corbin’s relationship is rocky initially in the book, but that is because they have known each other for a while. Corbin helped Dani before, and he has every right to be upset at her being back in his world.
I did like the revenge storyline that both characters had against the villain in the book. This villain needed his downfall after what he did to both characters. I also enjoyed Execution Underground (Quinn) being a part of this book and how they played into the syndicate, even though they had to make a deal with Corbin to make things happen.
Overall, it was an action-pack, dark, tense fast-paced read from Kait Ballenger. I need more vampire/mafia romance books after this book. I definitely think readers would enjoy this novella more if they read the other series Kait has written, but that’s just me being a Kait fan and wanting everyone to read her other books. You’re missing out if you haven’t read them.

Usually I really like Kait Ballenger's writing, this book not so much. The writing just felt off from the beginning. There was a intimate scene at the beginning that was just so not right. And then certain scenes just did not make sense with what she was trying to portray. The pacing was very uneven, it just seemed like a hot mess.
Dani (the female lead) is a human trying to survive in the supernatural world, and not doing a very good job . She had been brutalized and still jumped right back into the crazy. What? She already has super low self esteem and lets herself be treated like garbage. It just does not make sense.
Corbin (the male lead) is a vampire who is head of the vampire mafia!! He supposedly cares for Dani but, does not treat her well or respect her. It is hard to care for a story when both leads are unlikable, and just yucky.
Received as an ARC from Netgalley.
Dani Harper gets an unexpected visit from her brother, Quinn, with a request. Quinn works for the Execution Underground, and they are after one particular supernatural being. Dani has a way in.
The way in is through another supernatural who broke Dani's heart, but Quinn doesn't care because the means justifies the end.
Corbin knows that Dani didn't show up at his establishment. Dani is counting on him to protect her like he's always done. A deal is proposed between them, but in the meantime, their relationship will be outwardly fake.
The plan doesn't go as it should when Corbin makes a last-minute decision that jeopardizes the whole operation. Dani is clued in that she was lied to and angry that her chance for revenge was snatched away.
Corbin is out of ideas, but Dani has one, but it will require the supernaturals to get on board. Can they trust a human?
I love this world where everyone isn't what you expect. I did want to shake Corbin for not acknowledging what was right in front of him. I liked how Dani's character grew.
I received an advanced reader's copy and voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
This was a great book with wonderful characters and an engaging plot. I loved how the book played out and I would recommend it to others
3.5 stars
There's potential, but it needed to be worked at a little more for it to shine, in my opinion.
This novella started off great, and I was really into the first 30%. Dani gets recruited by her hunter brother to go undercover in the vampire mafia. Tell me that doesn't make you go "ooooh" with sparkles of excitement in your eyes? It certainly worked for me. Especially when Corbin, the vamp Dani is supposed to get intel from, turns out to be a fierce protector who might have a sweet spot for Dani.
There was some public spice that started out as a ruse but then became very real, which had me blushing at the bus stop.
"Now, for the sake of my reputation, do try to moan." *fans herself*
But after that point, things started nagging me.
**SPOILERS**
- The necklace is introduced as something Corbin gave Dani, but when C and D talk about it, D doesn't seem to know who gifted her. The importance she attaches to the necklace also shifts suddenly.
- Character inconsistencies. What put me off most was Corbin not seeming to care that Dani would be collateral damage, especially when he says he's been in love with her from the start. Even if he was in denial, he's written as this protector, touch her and you die type of man with morals (even though he's in the mafia). It doesn't fit with his character, imo.
- The scene where C bites D without consent when they're fighting... The whole scene feels off, and that's where the book lost me. I powered through only because it was a novella and I wanted to see where it went, but I would've DNF'ed otherwise. Also, it felt like Corbin was a different man in that scene?
- Repetition and spelling/grammatical errors that should've been flagged during the editing process. Some phrases were repeated very quickly (for example "tonight you are mine" and one sentence later "you are mine tonight"). Basic spelling and grammatical errors that become worse the more I read on. English is my third language. I only put this in my reviews when it's glaringly obvious and excessive.
- The characters and story could've been fleshed out a bit more.
3.5 stars because I liked reading it overall, although it requires more work to get to its true potential.

Fab Paranormal Read
A fast paced sultry read with betrayal, passion, secrets that will keep you glued to the storyline.
Corbin had his reasons for denying himself happiness with Dani and he’s on a mission of revenge.
So many twists and turns within the storyline it kept me engrossed until the end and still I wanted more!
Looking forward to reading more from this author!

Dani is human and after escaping the supernatural world, she works in a small diner as a waitress. Her brother comes strutting in and asks her to help the Execution Underground, paranormal hunters. So she goes back to Corbin, a vampire mafia boss and very very old. Corbin has plans to take out his sire with Dani as his "fake" girlfriend. Dani has loved Corbin for years but he will barely acknowledge her. Now working together they both want revenge on the same vampire. But Corbin could lose the woman he has loved forever if he doesn't save her first.
Short. The ending was a little anticlimactic to me. Still worth reading. Vampires. Sex. Secrets. A vampire who doesn't believe he deserves happiness and a human who is always waiting for someone else to save her until she stands up for herself.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This is not my favorite of this Rogue Brotherhood books. I just did not feel the chemistry between Dani and Corbin.
Throwing in Dani's brother to get her back into the vampire world seemed self-serving and actually really cruel of her brother.
Corbin didn't seem to have any problem moving on from any feelings about Dani when he took up with Cassandra. Dani felt too forgiving for my taste as Corbin continued to deny anything with her and at some point, I would just wash my hands of someone like that but Dani kept trying - which is probably what I didn't like about her.
There were a few twists at the end that made the book more interesting and kept my attention.
Dani Harper has gotten away from the vampire lifestyle. Her brother Quinn visit and wants her help. He wants her to return to Detroit to Corbin Blackwell to help take them down.
Corbin has saved Dani's life a few times and is shocked to see her in his club again. She asks for his help in taking down the vampire that sired Corbin and raped her.
Corbin and Dani have a history together; can they overcome the obstacles to a life together.
