Book Review: Time for You and Me! A One-Year Mother Daughter Journal to Share, Create, and Bond by Amanda Justice
Time for You and Me! is more than just a journal; it's a heartfelt tool for mothers and daughters to connect, communicate, and cherish their time together in a meaningful way. Created by Amanda Justice, a licensed family therapist, this journal is aimed at girls aged six to nine and their moms. It offers a beautiful, engaging way to build stronger bonds through weekly prompts and activities.
One of the standout features of this journal is its carefully crafted prompts. These questions and activities aren’t just surface-level— they invite both mother and daughter to reflect on their thoughts and feelings, making space for deeper conversations. The age-appropriate fill-in-the-blank questions are designed to encourage the daughter to open up about her world, whether it’s sharing how her day went or what makes her laugh. Moms can respond in turn, offering their own experiences and creating a two-way dialogue that helps strengthen the relationship.
The journal also includes a delightful mix of creative activities and free space for doodling or drawing, adding an extra layer of fun and self-expression. This is particularly valuable for children who may not always want to express their feelings through words, allowing them to communicate through art instead. The shared creation of drawings or even questions can help reveal new sides to both mom and daughter that may otherwise stay hidden in everyday life.
What really sets this journal apart is the incorporation of inspiring quotes. These little pearls of wisdom act as confidence-boosters and help foster self-trust in the young girl as well as deepening the sense of security in her relationship with her mom.
This journal isn't just an activity book; it’s a keepsake. By the end of the year, the journal will hold a treasure trove of memories and heartfelt exchanges that mothers and daughters can look back on for years to come. It’s a beautiful way to document both growth and the special bond between parent and child.
Overall, Time for You and Me! is a fantastic resource for any mom looking to connect more deeply with her young daughter. The thoughtful prompts, creative spaces, and gentle guidance make it a valuable tool for sparking meaningful conversations and moments of joy. Whether you're looking to better understand your daughter’s inner world or simply want a way to spend quality time together, this journal is a wonderful place to start.
This is a wonderful tool for mothers and daughters to communicate. This journal focuses on important topics including kindness, bravery, saying no, etc. Sentimental moms (like me) would definitely appreciate this. My 8.5 year old daughter would love it!
Admittedly, I started flipping threw and as a blended mama of 3 girls, I bought 4 copies of this journal.
**If you are a mom of girls you NEED this**
This journal establishes trust and creates a safe place when words can be hard. I love it because it also sets rules in the beginning, which is so important. This is amazing. The world is hard, making our daughters a priority in it is key.
Time for You and Me is a wonderful workbook for mothers and daughters. I like the topics that it gives for mothers to work through with their daughters. It encourages honesty when talking about difficult subjects. I can see this being a good relationship builder, and I can't wait to buy one for my daughter.
A fantastic way for mother and daughter to bond over recreation time with words/doodles/photos etc. As a mother of a five-year-old, I enjoy participating in diary exchanging with my daughter and it was a great opportunity to get to know her even better. It would make a great gift for all the moms and daughters!
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
A fun way to communicate with your child, especially for those that are not overly good with words or emotions. I enjoyed the questions and tips on how to use the book.
This is a great journal with helpful direction for a mom and child to express thoughts and feelings.
I will be ordering a copy for my daughter and me to do! Thank you for a copy.
What a beautiful journal to honor the relationship between mother and daughter. This is a beautiful idea and look forward to pursuing this over the next year of 2024 and spending that set time together with my daughter. Highly recommend,
Swap stories, thoughts, and doodles with your six-to-nine-year-old daughter! Fun weekly prompts and activities will strengthen your special bond and spark meaningful conversations in this journal meant for girls and their moms.
Time for You and Me! includes:
Reflective prompts—engaging, age-appropriate fill-in-the-blank questions for both Mom and Daughter to answer, with enough room to write or draw your responses.
Hands-on creative activities—join your daughter in exploring her imagination, both on and off the page.
Free space to express yourselves—sometimes words just aren’t enough to describe how we’re feeling or what we’re experiencing. On these blank pages, you and your daughter can exchange doodles, works of art, or other questions you’d like to ask each other.
Inspiring quotes—helpful words of wisdom to encourage your daughter’s trust and confidence in herself as well as in your relationship.
This journal is for mums and their daughter to fill in, each week has one topic to work on, you don't have to go in order, you can choose which one you want to do together, for a whole year. Inside you will find, pages for mum, pages for daughter, blank pages, creativity pages and off the page exercises. I think this book is very well set out and a lot of thought has gone in to it. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I like this but I just think some of the questions are too in-depth that a kid would not be able to understand fully. At least, I personally as a kid wouldn't have found some questions interesting...
Time for You and Me! Journal is a great way to engage with your daughter. I do not have kids my self but I found it to be something I would have really enjoyed doing along side my mom. Especially in a day when our lives are dominated by screens, activities and sports, this is a great way you could connect with a child that is important in your life. I believe each journal entry is something you could do quickly if you wanted or you could really extend each journal to be a whole weeks worth of things to engage in. Each week has a theme "Greatness" "Frustration" "Speaking up" lots of great opportunities for a mom to pass along wisdom and have some important conversations with their daughter. It definatly could break down any walls or akward openings to conversations. I would suggest this to any mom and daughter pair who wants to work on improving convesation, deepen their relationship and most importantly have fun and get to know one another even better!
Thank you Net Galley and Amanda Justice for allowing me to preview this advance copy of this Activity Journal. These are all my own thoughts and opinions, which I was not paid for.
Just spread the happy news, mothers and daughters!
This journal (am basically crying here!) is so authentically planned and will be filled with lots of loving memories when it’s completed.
I just love the prompts. Each page, each prompt on each page will help a lot in sharing what’s difficult to say sometimes between mothers and daughters.
I feel this journal can be used not just for kids but also for teenagers to share their thoughts with their mothers. I like the content so much! I just wish the cover was a bit better and attractive.
Thank you, Zeitgeist, for the advance reading copy.
This is such a beautiful activity book for mothers and daughters to complete together. Whether you work through each section in order, or pick and choose, this will help you create, share and build precious memories together. It spans a year, with a week per section, each with a different theme, and you each fill it in together - such a lovely bonding exercise, and a beautiful keepsake once completed. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Zeitgeist, and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This is fun and creative way to connect with your kids and explore emotional intelligence together! My children and I will be adding this into our homeschool curriculum!
I just absolutely love these types of books. This one has great spaces and allows you to skip around and not go in order. I cannot wait for my daughter to get a little bit bigger (and be able to write smaller!) so we can complete this book when it publishes.
Have started doing some of the activities with my 9 year old daughter and she has been loving it! I have loved the quality time it has give us together. Definitely recommend this book if you’ve got a daughter and need some new ideas or something fun to do together
Started this with my 7yo daughter today. She was very excited to do something special with mummy and found it easy to understand and do.
I will buy this book the second that I see it on amazon or another page. I have a nine year old daughter and this book is absolute perfection. It tackles the tough questions without being overwhelming. The questions are open ended and allow for conversation to flow afterwards. I want transparency with my children and this book allows for that. The color and text is cheerful yet straight forward. It would be interesting to do this book yearly and see how their thoughts evolve. A must buy!
Such a wonder concept. My daughter and I have begun working through this book together and it is really helping her to open up. She is a little older than is recommended but she is currently on the ASD pathway to diagnosis and so her communication and her emotional literacy is under developed so this has given her some wonderful prompts to enable her to chat more freely. I will be recommending this to lots of friends with daughters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this!
While I’ve only done a few pages with my daughter, I am loving it! It is such a fun way to spend time together and do something different. I am looking forward to exploring more pages together and recommend to all who have a daughter!
