Domestic thriller fails to thrill.
Emily is an LPN hired to care for a wealthy woman whose psychiatrist husband claims that his wife, Sabrina, has a lot of mental health issues. Emily is less nurse and more babysitter as the days go by. Emily is suspicious that Dr. Roth is overmedicating his wife. Eventually Mrs. Roth is found in a hotel, dead by apparent suicide. But was it?
I had a lot of problems with this very slow moving and somewhat boring book. As a nurse myself, I had a real issue with Emily being an LPN but supposedly graduating with an associate degree. In the USA, a practical nursing program is a one-year certificate and not an ADN which would result in the graduate being eligible to sit for the RN exam. That aside, I didn't buy into Emily being any sort of nurse at all. She sure flouted confidentiality convention and would be a disgrace to her profession. Ah, but I digress, really. Just didn't like the story, the characters, or this silly twist.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review. I should have just put it down, but I felt forced to follow it through. Don't recommend.
FABULOUS psychological thriller, well written with great characterization that draws you in & never lets go. RECOMMEND highly for a very intense read. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for #the nurse in return for my honest review.
I found myself speculating the whole time throughout this read and was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected twists and turns upon conclusion of the book.
It is definitely a thriller I would recommend to friends/fellow readers who enjoy being kept on their toes throughout a book.

Wow. This certainly kept me on the edge of my seat! A gripping psychological thriller with twists and turns aplenty, it kept me guessing throughout. With likeable (and quite loathsome!) characters, it's perfect to completely lose yourself in. This was the first time I'd read Jenna Kernan, but it definitely won't be the last!
*I received an eARC from the publisher via Netgalley - this is my unbiased review
The Nurse by Jenna Kernan was another superb book from start to finish which made it a completely unputdownable psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist.......a joy to read when the weather is bad outside. This was a book I did not want to end it was So good!
I loved it.
I highly recommend The Nurse.
Big 5 stars.
Big Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I stopped at 35 percent. I just could not finish. The descriptions of everything was just too much and so long and boring and so repetitive about the same things. I also was so bored with all the comparisons.
I’m a sucker for books that are based in places that are close to home so this was an instant read for me. Other than knowing it was about a nurse & that it was based in Lakeland, FL I went in blind… but let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This was a quick, fast paced read with lots of twists & turns I did not see coming. The ending had my mind blown. If you’re a fan of books from authors like Freida Mcfadden, Jeneva Rose, Kiersten Modglin etc. do yourself a favor & pick this one up!
A huge thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for an eARC of this title in exchange for an honest review!
Great plot and fast paced. I enjoyed the story. I found myself reaching to find our more of what was unfolding. The ending was a bit overwhelming, but over all a great thriller.
I truly enjoyed this fast-paced psychological thriller. Easy to read and will keep you up wanting to keep turning the pages to find out what is going on. This follows a nurse, hired to care for a mentally ill patient, but is the patient truly ill? so many moral questions posed in this book. And the twist is a great! Did not see it coming and kept me guessing till the end. I will definitely read more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and hte publisher for allowing me to read and review this novel.
A talented young nurse struggling to make her way in the world takes a chance on a job working with a wealthy, troubled woman. The plot here is dense with twists and the characters are all hard to pin down. It’s very difficult to decide who to trust as the layers peel away. A crazy thriller that sweats in the Florida heat!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my free copy. These opinions are my own.
This was very gripping and I enjoyed seeing how the plot unravelled. There was a lot revealed during the end of the book which, whilst being very clever, made it a little overwhelming. Still - great book.
Twisty and gripping in all the best ways….
I do love a @jenna_kernan book and this is another gem. Nothing is as it seems with this one. Kernan pulls you in from the very first chapter.
Emily is not always the wisest of characters but she is definitely determined to find out the truth. This is a character I have enjoyed reading about despite her considerable decisions.
This is well paced and gripping. This is a book that I have been unwilling to put down. Kernan has transported me and I’ve felt as though I have been watching this one play out.
This is one of those books you devour. I am a huge fan of this author and this is one I’ve loved.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
Thank you to Netgalley....another page turner
Psychological thriller
Characters are complex and compelling
Page turner from the moment of download
very juicy, almost at times realistic
would be a good Netflix movie
Jenna did an amazing job with this thriller. I am a sucker for any thriller that involves nurses and this hit the spot!
I was not able to finish the book and therefore do not feel that I can give an unbiased review about the book, its plot, characters, or the author's work. I might revisit this book at a later time and finish it then, but not right now.
Synopsis: All I’ve ever wanted is to care for people, to nurse my patients back to full health. So when Dr Roth hires me, I promise him I won’t leave his wife’s side. But after weeks of no progress, I start to worry Sabrina will never get better.
But then, I notice when her husband leaves the house, Sabrina becomes more clear-headed. She tells me she’s done something terrible. And that her husband is lying. He keeps her trapped because of what she did. And she begs me to help her escape.
Can I believe the words of a woman suffering from delusions? Or is Dr Roth not as trustworthy as he seems? One of them is lying. But there is something the Roths don’t know… because I’m lying too. And if they find out why I’m truly here, I’m certain I won’t leave this house alive.

The beginning as a bit slow but once I got into the book I couldn’t put it down. I liked the mental health theme of the book. There are a few twists and turns. Some obvious and some I did not see coming. I enjoyed the ending and thought the book was wrapped up well. I would read this author again in the future.
Woah. So this book starts slowly, but it does pick up. The premise isn’t the most original, but it’s captivating nonetheless. The big twist wasn’t as shocking either, but a book can be totally valid even if you see something coming, and that's how I feel about this one. I loved the ride!
At first, I worried it was too much like another popular book, but I stuck with it, and I’m glad that I did because it paid off. Yay!
It’s my first book by her, but I’m intrigued enough to want to check out more. Stick with it until the second half and you’ll enjoy it!
Solid 3.6 (rounded)
I didn't like the plot, but it was fun to read. Good writing style! It was really fast paced and I enjoyed the book until the ending.
I was really enjoying this fast paced thriller until the end, where the court details were revealed, because it didn't feel like its energy matched the rest of the book. It felt so abrupt and clean cut instead of the mess we'd been developing. I did enjoy the explanations and found them slightly surprising but not shocking in the slightest. I was really intrigued by the dynamics between the characters and they made the energy of the book feel very tense like we were waiting for the other shoe to drop. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 by Jenna Kernan

Thank you to Netgalley for copies of the audio and ebook! As a nurse I was totally down to read this thriller. From the start this felt reminiscent of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘥 but then the writing got a little boring for me. The last 20% or so was good but I didn't like how the reveal was executed. I think the overall plot of this book was good but the writing just didn't do it for me unfortunately.
