This story was well written and engaging and overall very sweet. As a native Floridian (and also someone who loathes snakes) I felt very much in the middle of the story with the author’s wonderful descriptions of the wildlife and landscape.
The romance between the leads was sweet and the chemistry charming. There is no on-page spice and while that usually isn’t my preference in a romance, in this case I didn’t mind. A lovely introduction to author Becky Harmon and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
Out Of Focus, author Becky Harmon weaves a captivating tale that showcases the beauty of love and the power of following one's passions. Set against the lush backdrop of Florida's wildlife, the story revolves around two strong, independent women, Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer TJ Smith and photographer Bailey Everett, who are about to discover that love can be as wild and unpredictable as the nature they protect.
TJ Smith is a dedicated officer, committed to safeguarding the forest and its inhabitants. She has chosen a solitary life, convinced that love is not meant for her. Her tough exterior conceals a tender heart, and readers cannot help but be drawn to her unwavering determination and love for the animals she protects.
On the other hand, Bailey Everett, a career-driven photographer, is always on the move, leaving little room for meaningful connections. Like TJ, she believes that the idea of "happily-ever-after" is a mere fairy tale. Bailey's passion for photography is beautifully depicted throughout the novel, transporting readers to picturesque landscapes and creating an immersive experience.
As fate intertwines their lives, TJ and Bailey find themselves bonding over their shared love for wildlife and an amusing mutual aversion to snakes (omg the ending). Their initial encounters are marked by a mix of tension and undeniable chemistry, laying the groundwork for an extraordinary connection that neither of them saw coming.
Harmon skillfully crafts the evolution of their relationship, taking readers on a journey filled with tender moments, heartfelt conversations, and a series of personal revelations. With every page turned, the layers of their characters are peeled away, revealing vulnerabilities and fears that have kept them from embracing love.
The natural beauty of Florida's wilderness becomes a character in its own right, acting as both a backdrop and a metaphor for the wild nature of love. Harmon's vivid descriptions of the landscape add depth to the narrative, creating an immersive experience that transports readers to the heart of the story.
Out Of Focus is a heartwarming and emotionally resonant novel that showcases the beauty of love and self-discovery. Harmon's prose is both engaging and evocative, making it easy for readers to immerse themselves in the lives of TJ and Bailey. The chemistry between the two protagonists is palpable, leaving readers rooting for their happiness and personal growth.
In this touching romance, Harmon beautifully demonstrates that love is not always a straightforward path, but one that requires courage, vulnerability, and the willingness to embrace the unexpected. "Out Of Focus" is a must-read for anyone seeking a tale of love, growth, and the enchanting world of wildlife. Prepare to be captivated by this richly layered novel that reminds us all that love can be found where we least expect it.
Very enjoyable, little angst, closed door, romance. Bailey Everett is a professional nature photography. She is in Florida working on her next book that focuses on the wild animal life of the state. Her work life requires her to be something of a loner except for her faithful goldendoodle Chewie. She meets Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer TJ (Teresa Jane) Smith while out on state land. TJ is great at her job but surprisingly tongue tied and bumbling when it comes to talking with Bailey. I enjoyed learning about the animal and bird life in Florida and it matches my experiences when I’ve traveled and explored in the area.
There are some funny moments and sweet dating interactions. I’m not clear why TJ is hesitant to make a move to kiss or talk more but I’ll just go with that is her character. I am new to the author but will look for her for her past and future books. Thank you to Bella Books for an ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving a voluntary review.
