Nick Petrie infuses gritty action with a personal-vendetta-esque driven narrative but this time, the vendetta is one you'd hesitate to see go through. It's a very gritty narrative and one of the most intense thrillers of the Peter Ash series so far.

Emotional and dark with heart-stopping action, The Price You Pay packs a powerful punch you’ll feel in your bones. Nick Petrie has taken this wonderful series to another level by providing an unforgettable story about trying to outrun your past and the strength of unconditional friendship.

Lewis has always been there for Peter Ash, no questions asked. Now Lewis’ criminal past – which he thought was behind him – has come back with a vengeance and it’s Peter’s turn to be by his friend’s side no matter what they may face. With a ruthless, wealthy and powerful adversary pulling out all the stops to make Lewis pay dearly for a past transgression, Lewis will get his old crew back together and, with Peter’s help, flip the script and go from the hunted to the hunters. And nothing short of the lives of everyone he cares about hang in the balance.

The Price You Pay is amazing. Full Stop. It doesn’t allow you to catch your breath for a second. An enemy out for blood at any cost. Peter’s complete commitment to Lewis regardless of the level of danger or number of laws they might have to break. June’s resolve to support their efforts and do whatever is necessary. Lewis’ emotional journey and reflection on his worthiness to have a family and life after what he’s done. Compelling character development wrapped around a violent and propulsive story. It’s fantastic stuff.

It's no secret that this series is one of my favorites and that I love these characters. Peter is an incredible protagonist and has been exquisitely developed over the course of the prior seven books. And I absolutely adore Lewis and June, two of the best and most entertaining supporting characters in the genre. So, to get a book that deep dives into Lewis’ backstory and is dedicated to further strengthening the bonds between these friends through intense adversity is a fantastic way to progress this series. Add the fact that it’s brilliantly constructed, gorgeously written and hits you squarely in the feels, and you get a book that is a beautiful gift from Nick Petrie.

Fans are going to absolutely love this one and it’s also a great entry point for thriller fans looking for a way into this series. A book that will create early buzz and be talked about as one of the best books of 2024.

Gosh Nick Petrie is my favorite thriller writer currently and this book further solidifies that. Peter Ash is an even better Jack Reacher and I can't wait for the next installment of this series.

This is not a thrill ride on a roller coaster…. It is an electric Jet propulsion rocket ride! WOW! The Price You Pay ( also entitled Heavy Lifters) is due to be released in February, 2024. For fans of this series, I am sure readers CAN.NOT.WAIT!!! However, for me, The Price You Pay is a new foray into this series. And I.can.not.wait to go back and start at the beginning of the series!

I will not write a summary of the novel- readers can find the synopsis in the promotional blurb. I will write my impressions: .

What a dynamic duo are Peter and Lewis! I realize Peter Ash is the main protagonist ( as the subtitle indicates) but Lewis plays a large role in this one, along with former cohorts in his past endeavors. The rising action doesn’t just “rise” - it skyrockets- and the thrusters keep on and on and on, culminating in an explosive climax!

Although there is plenty of action, characterization is well developed with dynamic, multi dimensional characters. That is a plus which sets a series apart: one reason to read another adventure by an author is that the readers become engaged with the characters and want to revisit them! Very true in this series! The author has taken great effort to make the characters come alive and seem very real via descriptive imagery as well as realistic dialogue.

Thematic elements include loyalty, codes of conduct in “missions” and reconciling those with lingering guilt. The primary protagonist Peter Ash has PTSD from his experiences in war and the residual affects are explored in his character.

Needless to say, the pacing is fast and furious. The storyline is unique and complex. I look forward to reading the previous compelling adventures of Peter Ash and et.al.

I am glad to have received an ARC from the author, publisher The Penguin Group of Putnam & Sons, and NetGalley in exchange for writing an unbiased review.

Action packed but excessive violence. Characters are well written and good interaction. A little to violent for me though.

Nick Petrie's Peter Ash, now long running series, number 8, takes a dramatic turn in this episode. Peter is forced into helping long time partner with a very bad group of men looking to find Lewis's former crime partners.

You can't help but to fly through Peltries Peter Ash's novels. They are built for speed reading and fun. I really liked the plot change with this novel and Peter helping his now very needed and long time friend.

Just finished this book and LOVED it. With each book in this series with these characters I'm always amazed at how much emotion I feel at the friendship between Lewis and Peter.
I also like that this book continues to talk about PTSD and hasn't mysteriously solved Peter's issues. It's still there but it seems very plausible that he's managing it, he's working on it, he's still dealing with it.
I was so afraid to read the last chapter only because I was so worried that Lewis succumbed to his injuries, and it always impresses me that an author can pull that level of emotion from a reader - to be so attached, and almost scared to find out what happens next to a fictional character.
CAN"T WAIT for the next in this series. Awesome book.......

As a fan of Nick Petrie’s previous Peter Ash novels, I was looking forward to reading his latest novel. Boy, was I ever disappointed! It was truly a very uninteresting book with a convoluted premise. It is ostensibly about a stolen notebook detailing nefarious activities in the hands of the “Ghost Killer” who is out for revenge. Subliminally, it is about friendship and loyalty and takes the reader from 18 degrees below zero weather through various points east leaving a trail of murders in its wake. Also, not helpful is the use of words such as piezoelectric.
I thank NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to publication.

I really like this series. It always has good action, a fast moving plot that holds together. Oddly, I find it a very hopeful series because people face their demons, deal with their challenges and build strong bonds with each other. This is a great entry that goes a lot deeper into Lewis's life and story which was very interesting. Definitely enjoyed the outing and looking forward to more!
I received an early release copy from the publisher and Netgalley to review. The name may have changed -- the netgalley version is called The Price You Pay but the Goodreads version is The Heavy Lift -- synopsis and # in the series are the same.

Author Nick Petrie has a winning character in Peter Ash, the former vet who can’t quite come in from the cold. He is the main protagonist in a series that chronicles his adventures with nefarious characters, all while slowly working his way through his PTSD and maybe, just maybe, finding his way back into civilian life. Helping him on his journey are a couple of stellar supporting characters, a girlfriend and a best friend/ ally, chief among them. THE PRICE YOU PAY places these characters front and center and we get an opportunity to meet them close up for the first time. The book is a joy to read and these characters are every bit as engaging and fascinating as they appeared in the earlier books. This book can be read as a stand alone. But why miss the fun of the series? Sadly, this book won’t be released until 2/06/24. In the intervening time, the earlier books can be read or re-read. The series is wonderful. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

In my opinion this is the best, in the already very good, Peter Ash thriller series. This series shares some similarities with Child's Jack Reacher but, again in my opinion, is better as the characters evolve and grow.
Mr. Petrie has done a wonderful job here of shifting the focus from Peter Ash to several of the secondary characters from previous books, most prominently his friend Lewis.

I loved every minute of this book packed with Peter and Lewis! When Lewis finds himself in a jam from his past, he calls on Peter for help for a change which was a great setup after all of the times Peter has needed Lewis' skills to help. This book is packed with action as Peter and June try to help Lewis figure out who's after him and his old friends. It was great to see Nino and Ray again after their brief appearance early in Petrie's series when Peter meets Lewis. I highly recommend this book and only wish it were being published before Christmas so that I'd have some go-to gifts already set to go. Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons, NetGalley, and Nick Petrie for the great early read in exchange for my honest opinion.
