This book is very well written, and the author seems to know what she is talking about. I want to give this a try. I just reviewed Freedom With Food & Fitness by Alana Van Der Sluys. #FreedomWithFoodFitness #NetGalley

Freedom with Food & Fitness made some good points on how to not have disordered eating and fitness. This book seemed like it was meant for someone who has or has had an eating disorder so not everything was relevant to myself. I enjoyed how Alana made a lot of lists in each chapter which made the book easy to read and follow along with. I don't think this book had any special or new information in it, and at times some of the things the author stated seemed to be going slightly against what she was writing about.
Good message, good reminder, but nothing new. It was more of a hybrid intuitive eating book, telling people to stop caring, but still kind of care. It was a quick and easy read, but certainly not earth shattering
Freedom with Food and Fitness is a motivating, emotional read for readers diving into the idea of food freedom and breaking free of diet culture, as well as those that haven't heard of it until now. While the premise of building your happies, healthiest self may sounds too good to be true to some, Alana proves that, while a long road, it IS possible! Through specific personal experiences and a wealth of cited scientific, credible sources, she implores the reader to not make the same mistakes she did, and that your life is SO much more fulfilling and joyful when you aren't worrying about what your body looks like, or tracking everything that you're eating. She provides useful tools that you can start today, while reminding the reader that the bigger picture is what you are striving for. Even if the road is bumpy, not ever straight, and will probably be delayed multiple times.. it's worth it.
An inspiring read from a promising new author that is empathetic, science-based, and will leave you feeling hopeful and ready to find what your healthiest self will be.
A great motivating book on guiding you to healthy practices for food and fitness. Lots of practical advice and very positive and encouraging.
Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to
read and provide and HONEST review of.)
*********************************************************
Freedom with Food and Fitness will be the first book about intuitive eating that actually provides focus on intuitive movement and fitness, the ninth principle of the intuitive eating philosophy. It will guide readers through the core principles of intuitive eating, how and why diet culture leads us to become disordered dieters, and how we can rebuild our relationship with our minds and bodies through mindset work and practical advice around food and fitness…
There is a hole in the intuitive eating book market where there should be one that focuses on how to incorporate exercise into eating disorder recovery; “diet and exercise” are typically discussed as a pair, after all. Freedom with Food and Fitness differs from all other intuitive eating books in the diet and fitness niche in that it focuses heavily on fitness. Even though “gentle movement” is one of the core principles of intuitive eating, no books on the market focus on the fitness aspect of recovery and one’s relationship with their body.
No matter what the author says/writes, this book is no different from any other book on the market (hey, I did say that I would provide an honest review!) – its focus on fitness may backfire for orthorexics and anorexics looking for relief from their food issues. I have a major ED (bulimic for 26 years, flirting again with it recently … maybe it’s the heat???) but I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever exercised.
Will I recommend this book? Probably not – I certainly won’t recommend that we buy it for general use as we have too many women and men with ED who come in and use the books as a bible. (I am not cross-posting this to Instagram for the same reason.) If they want to buy it, fine … but I won’t put something that could cause harm on the shelf. #shortbutsweetreviews
Some good advice but rather an uninspirational format, rather like reading a dissertation. There is nothing to hold the eye or breakup the sections. Unlike the cover?
Great guide on improving your relationship with food and practical advice on incorporating fitness in your life. There is a lot of information on why disordered eating happens and how to change those habits.
I am on a food freedom journey so discovering this title was perfect timing! I thank NetGalley for the ARC. I'm giving the book four stars. The writing is great. It's simple to understand the concepts. I favored the first part of the book where food freedom is covered vs. the second half about fitness.
