This was absolutely one of my favorite Freida reads. No one keeps me quite entertained like Freida McFadden. Very surprised at the ending. Five stars
I have to say that I liked other books by Freida a lot more. I just think this book wasn’t for me, because I’ve seen a lot of people loving this book.
The writing style was still gripping, easy to understand, pretty fast paced and I loved the short chapters. Typical Freida style.
I didn’t saw the plottwist coming, but it felt a little far fetched to me.
I would still recommend this book, because I feel like a lot of other people will love this one!
It’s been a while since I’ve had chills from reading a book and this book did just that. Freida McFadden hit the right note by writing a psychological crime thriller that is both realistic and absolutely terrifying. Told from the perspective of Nora, a surgeon, we read about her early life living with her father (a serial killer) and her current life in alternating chapters. Despite Nora’s successful career and years of burying the memories of her traumatic childhood away, she can’t escape danger and the feeling that someone is watching her.
What happens next is the murder of a few of her patients, who are killed in the same way her father killed his victims. A series of horrifying incidents follow where Nora is wrapped up in the murder cases of her patients, with many thinking she’s the culprit. McFadden threw in a lot of red herrings, which kept me guessing. The chapters give insight into Nora’s mind and how she deals with the trauma of childhood and murder accusations, while keeping pace with the plot. I never felt compelled to skim paragraphs, which is often the case when I read thrillers and the author describes every single one of the protagonist’s thoughts assuming that the reader cannot piece together bits of the story themselves.
I couldn’t put the book down and finished it in one sitting. I had to know who was behind the murders. The ending actually caught me by surprise and I’m pleased with how it turned out. The books ends with an epilogue with a slight cliffhanger that makes me wonder if this will become a series. Thank you to the author, Poisoned Pen Press, and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy so I can provide an honest review.
As always, Frieda has done it again! If you love psychological thrillers you will love this book. Plus, it’s on Kindle Unlimited right now!
Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this one. The book read like a 20 year old was telling the story. I do appreciate the one twist at the end. But the rest of it was not great.
Solid thriller from an author that I really love. I'd give this one 4 stars! Characters kept me turning the pages, and I loved that I could not predict the ending. Great book!
I was hooked from the first page.
This author always keeps you guessing and her character development is flawless.
Read this in one day
A other gripping and twisty psychological thriller by the absolute queen of this genre. I was hooked from the very start,
I love this author so much and this was just as good as the previous books. I definitely recommend this to everyone
This is one of my favorite thrillers I've read this year! It had twists I didn't see coming and was highly entertaining and hard to stop reading! I HIGHLY recommend this! Special Thank You to Freida McFadden, The Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Dr. Nora Davis is very good at what she does, cutting people up on the operating table. No one would ever guess that her father is one of the most famous serial killers in Oregon's history, and Nora would like to keep it that way. When former patients of hers start getting murdered the police can't help but notice that the victims are very similar to Nora's father's, and his trademark was cutting the hands off his victims. As each victim is found is seems like Nora is getting framed for the murders and she has to race to find out who is responsible before the police arrest her and throw her in jail.
This was my first Freida McFadden book and it definitely held my interest, but I was expecting a lot more. There was a plot twist, but it was kind of predictable and the writing was very simplistic. There was no depth to any of the characters. I think this book is a couple of years old and I hear how great her books are, so hopefully she's gotten better. I'll definitely read more of them!
I LOVEDDDDD THIS BOOK. I could never have predicted the end. It is so well written and kept me on my toes the whole time!! Thanks to NetGalley for sending me the ARC in return for an honest review. :)
Freida McFadden is the master of the thriller genre. Her strong female characters, although flawed at best are very memorable. Once again, she does not disappoint in the this second book. The main character learned a lot in the first book and applies her learning in this book. I see a third book in this series. I just love the way she builds the intrigue bit by bit until your heart beats faster as you read, Kudos to strong women. I'm looking forward to a third book in this series. Who will she help now?
Is there anything that Freida can't write about? I'd say a strong "No!". Seriously, this woman is a powerhouse writer with a new book out more often than I can keep up with reading. And, I read ALOT!
This is another FMcF winner and one I found filled with twists that kept me coming back for more. I often save her books to read on my exercise bike so I can be sure to get a ride in each day. This was one hecka ride. Nice short chapters with a teaser at the end of each keeps the reader thirsty for more.
Another classic Freida McFadden. I will not stop until I have read all of her books.
Positives:
This one kept me guessing until the very end with many pliable red herrings
Enjoyed the characterization of the main character being the daughter of a serial killer but trying to live her life on the straight and narrow as a well-respected surgeon, at times the reader is left wondering about her however adding an additional element of suspense
The dual timeline of the present and her childhood experiences
Short chapters, an easy to read page turner
Negatives:
I did see the final twist coming, but the whole plot was very well executed overall
With Freida McFadden-you know what you are going to get, but I will keep devouring everything she offers.
Nora’s father is a serial killer. She turns him in and her grandmother takes her in, moves away, and changes Nora’s name. Many years later Nora, a successful surgeon, becomes a murder suspect because her patients begin to go missing and are found murdered in the same way her father’s victims were. It becomes a race against time to figure out who the real killer is.
This is not Freida’s best book, but as always, it’s a fast read that will have you guessing until the end.
This one was so good… I flew through this book so fast. It kept me on the edge of my sight and even though the plot twist was out of nowhere, it worked really well.
Nora Davis has lived for over twenty years with a different name and with the thought that no one knew who she was. She is a fantastic surgeon, saving others lives, and doing better than her father. But that is because her father is a serial killer who is serving life in prison for the murder and mutilation of multiple women. Nora lives alone, is not dating, and tries to deal with her pretentious partner in their surgical practice. But quickly things start taking a turn. Two women are kidnapped and found dead not far apart from each other but the weird thing is both of these women were surgical patients of Noras. And then someone starts following Nora, breaks into her home, and other weird things start happening. Who exactly is copycatting Noras fathers crimes?
This was a fantastic book and Frieda McFadden did it again! I really enjoyed her other novels so I had high hopes for this one and it hit everything I needed it too. I was on the edge of my seat and trying to also figure out what was going on at the same time. The biggest part of the book I enjoyed was that there was more to Nora than meets the eye. It wasnt just Nora, daughter of a Seriel Killer, it was Nora with her own secrets and deceit. I highly recommend and would say thing is a perfect thriller.
This book was a WILD ride. Not at all what I expected and kept me guessing again and again. Freida never let's you down.
One of my favorite books by Freida McFadden! Just when you think you’ve figured it out, there is another plot twist.
