Another great work by Freida McFadden that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This is not normally my genre but McFadden does it so well I just have to keep coming back for more. She truly knows how to pull a reader in for the ride of a lifetime and always keeps us coming back for more. I highly recommend this book!

This is now the eighth book I read by Freida McFadden and let me just say I am never as shocked reading mystery’s as I am with hers. This book started off pretty slow the first few chapters but eventually caught all my attention. I thought I had solved the mystery but just like all the others I hadn’t. I find with many mystery books that the killer never makes sense but with this one I didn’t see it coming and it still made sense. Definitely will continue reading more Freida McFadden.

The Locked Door, by Freida McFadden
Rating: 4/5
Published: 18th October (Tomorrow!)
What a thrilling ride! I devoured this book in two days, because I could not put it down. I loved trying to guess the twist, but it was impossible to foresee. Nora’s character is brilliant – she is both unsettling but strangely likeable, despite the reader never truly knowing if she can be trusted. McFadden weaves an intricate web, and I loved the little glimpses into Nora’s childhood. She is the daughter of the deranged serial killer, the Handyman, but it is suggested that Nora might have been actively involved in her father’s hideously violent crimes. You never truly know whether she was or not, which is part of the book’s charm. Despite her father being in prison, women are still going missing and all evidence points to her being responsible. She has a new life now, and does not want it ruined, but can she fight what’s in her blood?

This book is not good and unfortunately the audiobook is even worse. The plot is thin and convoluted. The narration on the audiobook had no nuance. At one time I had to check to see if it was at the wrong speed because it all felt like run-on sentences. Skip this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!
I was super drawn to this book as I feel as if Freida has become such an iconic author, but unfortunately I just don't think I get on with her writing style. I was a bit let down as the plot seemed so good and promising. I found this quite predictable and I didn't like the protagonist which is a reoccurring feeling when reading Freida's novels.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this early!

I really enjoyed this book. It was the right amount of suspense and thrills without being drawn out.

I have read 4 novels by Freida McFadden now, and with each one I finish, I find myself more and more confused and let down. In fact, as I write this review, I can feel myself becoming more boggled by the impressively high rating this, and other, Freida McFadden books get.

I started with the Housmaids Secret, and while it was fairly straight forward, it was thoroughly fun and I enjoyed it start to finish. Then I read two more novels that were just so wildly chaotic with endings that made zero sense in any imaginable way. Then, today, The Locked Door. This was the most anti-climactic, dull, and hasty ending that she could have possibly come up with.

The book itself was fine. Nora was a bit one dimensional, though it felt like there was a serious failed effort to really invest in get character. Phillip had basically no role, was portrayed as kinda crappy, but was still far more likeable with way more personality. I also don’t get when authors really buy into the character doing everything you shouldn’t do when you’re being framed for a crime - Nora is a smart lady, who obviously wasn’t the killer… she does not need to be throwing out severed hands for the sake of creating drama in the plot.

The more I think about not just this book, but McFadden’s writing, the more I realize it doesn’t seem she knows how to effectively wrap up a book. Good endings should have foreshadowing and breadcrumbs that have the potential to lead the reader to the solution. You either want them to feel satisfied with the solve, or to be able to go back and appreciate what they missed to come to the right conclusion. The Locked Door, along with the other books I’ve read, went hard on the shock, at the expense of a legitimate plot.

Somehow, like a sucker for punishment, I’m sure I’ll read another one of her books. Despite this semi-scathing review, I did read this in one sitting and I will probably read another. I want to stop, I’m upset, but I can’t. Please don’t read this, or do, I honestly have no idea.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to review this.

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for my digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book is available now.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I was immediately sucked in and finished it within a day. It’s a true page turner.

My only complaint is it’s unbelievable that the main character would see so many red flags yet not take action. If you can deal with that, it’s a thriller with a surprise ending!

It was the atmosphere of this one for me. Throughout the book there was a constant prickling feeling of someone watching, just out of sight. The coupled with the my ‘insert family member’ is a serial killer trope, and I was all in!

This is an exceptionally readable book, 100% a page turner. McFadden has a knack of making you think every character is the villain, even until the last page, because if you’ve read any Freida McFadden books, you’ll know there is always a last-minute twist that throws the reader for a loop.

I enjoyed the format of the book, alternating timeline between Nora’s past and present and felt these past chapters really fleshed out the character of Nora and were vital to understanding her motivations and actions throughout the book.

All in all a riveting story which has further cemented McFadden as an auto buy author.

Great book! As soon as I thought I figured out who the bad guy was there was another twist. The book kept me wanting more.

Crazy twists & turns! Was not expecting the ending at all. Nora Davis, surgeon and daughter of a serial killer leaves you begging for more….wanting another installment of the story. Will she continue to be the do-gooder of the family, or will she let her father influence her to walk down the wrong path? I’m a new McFadden for life!

This book is about a woman named Nora who’s dad was a serial killer when she was younger. Nora hasn’t spoken to her father in 26 years and all of a sudden woman start ending up dead, in the same aspect as how her father had killed them, someone is out to frame Nora. The book is put together very well, definitely didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did. The ending took me by total surprise. I’m kind of hoping there is a second part to this book.

This was a fun nature vs nurture read.

Told from the POV of the daughter of a serial killer who recognizes her own dark thoughts and natural impulses. Because of this she isolates herself and becomes the perfect target to be framed for copy cat murders.

Only she's so flighty the the reader isn't so sure if she's being framed or if she's possibly disassociating.

I figured it out about 80% through. Of course, there were a few unexpected reveals but it was all entertaining.

Reading Freida McFadden’s The Locked Door, I had the thought I always get when reading her books — how can one author create so many stories that all feel so different? I have read over 10 of her books and feel that all are unique.
Of course, the writing style is consistent (and consistently readable), but each of her plots stands on its own.
In The Locked Door, Freida crafts an unreliable yet sympathetic narrator, weaves in several possibilities, then leaves off with some major surprises!
The Locked Door was positively an exciting ride and I highly recommend!

Freida did it to me again! I literally read the majority of this book in one night.
I am more of a psychological thriller girl. This was about a serial killer.
I could not figure it out until the last chapters. The plot twist got me at the end. NOT what I was thinking.
I like how the author would go back and forth to when Nora was a child, to current.
So well written, and kept me guessing! If you like a good page turning thriller (with a bit of gore, not too descriptive), you should read this!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

‘The locked door’ is an intriguing psychological thriller from the queen of modern psychological thrillers,@fmcfaddenauthor, which has a twisty plot ending. Twisty endings are one of Mcfadden’s specialities and she does it amazingly that I didn't see it coming. This is a plot heavy book with zero to none character depth. I wasn’t able to connect with the MC or any of the characters. I didn’t care even a bit for any of them. I think the plot is just amazing but it was done poorly. A bit of character development could’ve made this story reach far.

Nora Davis is a very successful and reputed general surgeon who is living her dream career. Even so, she is leading a solitary life in her thirties. But it is better this way, she can’t risk someone finding out her secret and also passing on her genes. But someone who knows who she is, is following her and trying to wreck her life. How does this person have access to her house and car? Why is this person trying to ruin her life?

Freida McFadden does it again! I couldn’t put this one down. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong.

Nora is a successful surgeon and well-adjusted woman in her 30s, content to live her life and not draw any extra attention to herself. After all, she is the daughter of Aaron Nierling-a prolific serial killer that was caught 26 years ago. And Nora will do almost anything to keep that fact a secret. But when previous patients of Nora’s are turning up murdered with an eerie similarity to her father’s victims, Nora’s secret identity threatens to be revealed…and that’s not even her biggest problem.

I was on the edge of my seat for the whole ride, and I definitely gasped more than once. I love everything FM does, and this one is no exception.

I was lucky enough to receive this book free from the author, in exchange for my honest review.

This book was incredibly thrilling, super enjoyable, and filled with suspense. I could not put this book down.
The story follows Nora in the present and as a child, revealing the events that changed her life forever. Nora is a successful surgeon and the daughter of a gruesome serial killer. But she’s nothing like her father. Or is she?

The twists and turns in the story are unsettling, and as the book continues it just keeps you guessing. As you read you doubt the believability of each and every person in the story, including the protagonist. And while there are a lot of secrets revealed in the book there is definitely more going on than what you read. I did not expect any of the plot twists, the book kept me guessing and kept me at the edge of my seat.

Freida’s writing is captivating and easy to follow, while being filled with details. There are a lot of things happening trough the story, and Freida does a great job of tying them together in the end of the book. While still leaving a little bit to the imagination.
This is definitely not the last McFadden book i will read. I look forward to reading more!

This book kept me curious as to who the killer would be! In true Frieda McFadden fashion, the twist was unexpected.

I would like to thank Net Galley for sending me this book to review. It was the first time I had read a book by Frieda McFadden. The Locked Door is the story of Nora who was a little girl who's father was always in the basement "building furniture". Except when she is 11 years old she discovers that her father is actually a killer. The book goes back and forth as it builds the story of Nora as a child and the discovery of her father as a serial killer and present day where she is Dr. Nora Davis. Dr. Davis is a surgeon who has hidden her secret of who her father is by changing her name. She stays closed off due to her past. However, when new dead bodies start to show up that mimic her fathers killing style you start of a journey of who is the new killer. Each chapter is short and gives a little tidbit that has you guessing the whole time who is the killer and who can you the reader trust.
