This was a fun nature vs nurture read.

Told from the POV of the daughter of a serial killer who recognizes her own dark thoughts and natural impulses. Because of this she isolates herself and becomes the perfect target to be framed for copy cat murders.

Only she's so flighty the the reader isn't so sure if she's being framed or if she's possibly disassociating.

I figured it out about 80% through. Of course, there were a few unexpected reveals but it was all entertaining.

Reading Freida McFadden’s The Locked Door, I had the thought I always get when reading her books — how can one author create so many stories that all feel so different? I have read over 10 of her books and feel that all are unique.
Of course, the writing style is consistent (and consistently readable), but each of her plots stands on its own.
In The Locked Door, Freida crafts an unreliable yet sympathetic narrator, weaves in several possibilities, then leaves off with some major surprises!
The Locked Door was positively an exciting ride and I highly recommend!

Freida did it to me again! I literally read the majority of this book in one night.
I am more of a psychological thriller girl. This was about a serial killer.
I could not figure it out until the last chapters. The plot twist got me at the end. NOT what I was thinking.
I like how the author would go back and forth to when Nora was a child, to current.
So well written, and kept me guessing! If you like a good page turning thriller (with a bit of gore, not too descriptive), you should read this!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

‘The locked door’ is an intriguing psychological thriller from the queen of modern psychological thrillers,@fmcfaddenauthor, which has a twisty plot ending. Twisty endings are one of Mcfadden’s specialities and she does it amazingly that I didn't see it coming. This is a plot heavy book with zero to none character depth. I wasn’t able to connect with the MC or any of the characters. I didn’t care even a bit for any of them. I think the plot is just amazing but it was done poorly. A bit of character development could’ve made this story reach far.

Nora Davis is a very successful and reputed general surgeon who is living her dream career. Even so, she is leading a solitary life in her thirties. But it is better this way, she can’t risk someone finding out her secret and also passing on her genes. But someone who knows who she is, is following her and trying to wreck her life. How does this person have access to her house and car? Why is this person trying to ruin her life?

Freida McFadden does it again! I couldn’t put this one down. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong.

Nora is a successful surgeon and well-adjusted woman in her 30s, content to live her life and not draw any extra attention to herself. After all, she is the daughter of Aaron Nierling-a prolific serial killer that was caught 26 years ago. And Nora will do almost anything to keep that fact a secret. But when previous patients of Nora’s are turning up murdered with an eerie similarity to her father’s victims, Nora’s secret identity threatens to be revealed…and that’s not even her biggest problem.

I was on the edge of my seat for the whole ride, and I definitely gasped more than once. I love everything FM does, and this one is no exception.

I was lucky enough to receive this book free from the author, in exchange for my honest review.

This book was incredibly thrilling, super enjoyable, and filled with suspense. I could not put this book down.
The story follows Nora in the present and as a child, revealing the events that changed her life forever. Nora is a successful surgeon and the daughter of a gruesome serial killer. But she’s nothing like her father. Or is she?

The twists and turns in the story are unsettling, and as the book continues it just keeps you guessing. As you read you doubt the believability of each and every person in the story, including the protagonist. And while there are a lot of secrets revealed in the book there is definitely more going on than what you read. I did not expect any of the plot twists, the book kept me guessing and kept me at the edge of my seat.

Freida’s writing is captivating and easy to follow, while being filled with details. There are a lot of things happening trough the story, and Freida does a great job of tying them together in the end of the book. While still leaving a little bit to the imagination.
This is definitely not the last McFadden book i will read. I look forward to reading more!

This book kept me curious as to who the killer would be! In true Frieda McFadden fashion, the twist was unexpected.

I would like to thank Net Galley for sending me this book to review. It was the first time I had read a book by Frieda McFadden. The Locked Door is the story of Nora who was a little girl who's father was always in the basement "building furniture". Except when she is 11 years old she discovers that her father is actually a killer. The book goes back and forth as it builds the story of Nora as a child and the discovery of her father as a serial killer and present day where she is Dr. Nora Davis. Dr. Davis is a surgeon who has hidden her secret of who her father is by changing her name. She stays closed off due to her past. However, when new dead bodies start to show up that mimic her fathers killing style you start of a journey of who is the new killer. Each chapter is short and gives a little tidbit that has you guessing the whole time who is the killer and who can you the reader trust.

I always love a fast-paced thriller that keeps me on my toes and this book was that and more. The character development was spot on, especially that of Nora and I looked forward to reading the chapters that took place during Nora’s childhood.
In typical Freida fashion, I was constantly questioning how this book was going to end, having multiple theories until the very last page. She’s also so good with those mic drops 😮‍💨. If you’re a Freida fan, this one did not disappoint and I definitely recommend. If you’ve never read a Freida book I highly recommend you pick one of her books up!

Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and Freida McFadden for a #gifted ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the best book I've read by the author to date (only read 3 so far, so luckily have many more).
I was kept guessing to the very end, and was transfixed from cover to cover, not wanting it to end.
It will have you questioning everything and everyone, including the ones you shouldn't.
Or should you?

This book… left me speechless. I honestly don’t even know what to say right now. The way I kept flipping through every chapter wanting to know the truth and about Nora’s past. Everything kept getting revealed and still coming up with all these theories in my mind but to be completely wrong. I thought it was Henry at first, then Brady, then literally Philip but for it to be Harper? Talk about a freaking plot twist that I did not see coming. I seriously enjoyed this book and finished it in one day. Freida never fails. Her books are always so interesting and always wanting to read more.

Another enjoyable thriller where I wasn’t able to figure out the big twist(s) until getting right to the end of the narrative; I love that. This was a fun, dramatic, and descriptive story that pulled me in quickly and kept me interested until it finished. So far, I’m really liking what I’ve read from this writer, and I’ll be waiting to see what intriguing elements her next book contains.

I have recently gone down a rabbit hole of Freida's books, and this one did not disappoint. There were dual POV - current day and 26 years prior. I enjoyed the way the two were intertwined and how the story developed. It was complex and the whole time, I was unsure what to believe opr think. I love an unreliable narrator!I did not predict the ending AT ALL! I never saw any of the twists coming. I definitely recommend this to thriller readers.

3.5 stars rounded up.
I loved a good book with a medical twist. To me it read like every other book from this author.
Not too complex but twisty and thriller enough to keep me reading late into the night. I saw the twist coming but maybe not every tiny aspect of it. Which was just fine with me.
I’ll keep reading each new book she publishes!!

Everything a great book should be! Thoroughly enjoyed it and there were so many curves I didn't see coming! Keep up the amazing work Freida ❤️

Growing up, there was one big rule. Don’t try to go in the basement. At 11, Nora finds out why. Her father is kidnapping, torturing, and killing women instead of “building things in his workshop.” It’s been years, and Nora is now a successful surgeon while he father rots in jail. When two of her patients wind up dead I the same way her father killed, she is an immediate suspect. Nora knows someone is framing her…but why? How do they even know who she is?

McFadden’s books are always amazingly quick reads, and great slump busters. Needless to say, I was excited to pick this one up. I found myself rooting for Nora, and coming to many of the same conclusions she did about who could be trying to frame her for these murders. As with all of McFaddens novels, this story moved quickly and kept me on my toes. I really enjoyed this one, and if you have enjoyed her books in the past I highly recommend grabbing a copy!

I couldn't put down The Locked Door! This novel follows a successful surgeon, Nora Davis. But Nora is hiding an intense path and is constantly worried she will follow in her father's footsteps. A twist at the end I did not see coming, kept me guessing throughout the entire book!

Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of this novel!

Loved the multi timelines and the twist at the end!
I think the pace was great and made every chapter a page turner.

An easy to read fast paced thriller! My second Freida McFadden book where I enjoyed the switch between past and present timelines to unravel the story. This book left me wanting to know more about the characters to make their motives more believable throughout the book which made it difficult to root for Nora & left me with more questions to make the plot twist make sense.

However, I didn’t guess the plot twist & the short chapters made this a page turner so worth a read if you want a quick thriller!
