Thank you for the advanced read!
Freida McFadden did it again. What a great book! I was sucked in to this psychological thriller from the beginning.

“The Locked Door” by Freida McFadden is a story about Nora whose father is a convicted killer known as ‘The Handyman’. Nora was only eleven when it was discovered that her father was killing women in the basement of the family home. After the horror of her childhood, Nora changed her last name and is now a successful surgeon trying to keep her the her horrific family secrets hidden. With her father safely behind bars there is a copycat on the loose who has brutally murdered one of Nora’s patients in similar to her father’s killings and Nora fears that all her secrets will soon be in jeopardy.

"The Locked Door" is full of building suspense on every page, excellent characters and a fascinating plot which made this book impossible for me to put down. Nora is a great character who feels threatened both physically and psychologically as she tries to cope with the new killer on the loose who could expose everything and potentially ruin everything she has worked so hard to build.

While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement. Until the day the police arrived at their front door. Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way. Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims. This was without a doubt a very twisty tale. Lots of twist and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Read 13 Frieda McFadden books in a row thanks to an introduction from Netgalley! All brilliant and un-put0down-able! Highly recommend and already purchased several physical and digital copies for library collections.

Wow...the daughter of a serial killer...is she following in her father's footsteps? Or is she being set up? Or is she having a mental breakdown and is unaware of her actions?
This book keeps you guessing.
The pacing was good and overall I enjoyed my time with it.

A bit more of a deep dive into the secondary characters around the MC would have made this a 4☆ for me.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the advanced copy!

Nora Davis has a big secret. The successful surgeon is the daughter of a notorious serial killer, “The Handyman,” who operated out of her family’s home when Nora was a child. But he’s safely behind bars now, and Nora has moved on and become someone who saves lives. Then one day, the police knock on her door and say that a patient of hers was murdered. And there was something odd about how she was found….because it appears someone is emulating Nora’s father’s crimes. Could it be Nora herself? Is nature stronger than nurture?Nora’s not-so-sure any more.

The book moves between two time periods: “Before” when we see events leading up to Nora’s father’s arrest; and in the present day, both told from Nora’s POV.

This book was freaking amazing. I couldn’t put it down! It has a perfectly crafted atmosphere - dark and foreboding, with a protagonist who doesn’t quite let you all the way in. And especially in the “before” timeline, there’s something distinctly creepy about Nora, which makes things more interesting and complicated because then you’re questioning her actions and moves in the present-day timeline.

The ending was truly great, with several twists that really made things exciting. I thought I had it figured out a couple of times, just to be completely wrong in the end. But I was happy to be wrong. Nothing like a good twist to keep you on your toes!

The whole book was just a master work of creepiness and chills as it powered along. If you like thrillers with great mysteries at their centers, pick this one up now!

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and Freida McFadden for allowing me to read and review this book.

This is the first book of Freida McFadden's that I have read. I have heard such high praises about Freida McFadden's books, and I can now honestly agree that her books are amazing.

I was gripped from the very first page and couldn't put this book down. I had to know what would happen next. There are so many twists and turns throughout this book. At any point in time, you can believe you know what is going to happen next and be completely blind sighted.

I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves a good thriller/mystery. I will definitely be picking up more of her books in the future.

Another enthralling story from Freida McFadden! Nora Davis, an excellent surgeon, is just hoping no one will figure out her father. As soon as two of her patients turn up dead in the same manner using her father’s signature killing style, it’s a wild ride on who is committing these heinous acts. I was guessing the entire story and was blown away by the shocking conclusion!

Thank you Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for an ARC of The Locked Door in exchange for my honest opinion.

In true Freida McFadden fashion, the book has twists and turns that keep you guessing. Did not expect the ending at all. I did find some parts to be wordy and repetitive. I’ve read several other books by her and this one may be my favorite so far.

Dr. Davis is a well known surgeon. She’s also the daughter of a notorious serial killer, Aaron Nierling. Her parents were both arrested when she was a child and she went to live with her grandmother. Her grandmother tried everything she could to keep her away from the evilness of her father.

Years later, women from Nora Davis’s practice start turning up dead. With the same signature her father had left. Nora’s past is coming up in a world where nobody really knows the truth about her life.

Just when I thought I had this one figured out, Freida swooped in and did what she does best and literally blindsided me with the most epic plot twist.

The Locked Door had me physically holding my breath, it had my clenching my fists and cuddling up in a blanket. My heart was breaking while at the same time racing.

I’m not sure how she does this time after time, but man am I hooked.

This may have been one of my most favorites of hers so far!!

Fun mystery with a good twist at the end. I overall enjoyed it, but there were a couple things that felt inconsistent for me and didn’t tie up as well as I’d hoped! Would give this 3.5 stars!

Thank you NetGalley and poisoned pen press for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!

I read this book in less than 24 hours. It was really well written and I didn't see the end coming. I questioned if Nora was losing her mind and at times I suspected Philip and even the police officer of being the killer. I was surprised by the end.
