I love Frieda don’t get me wrong but this fell flat for me. While a quick suspenseful read this reads like other books I have read in the past and the lack of what felt like it’s own unique plot made this hard to trudge through.
Nora, daughter of a notorious serial killer, is just trying to live her life after her father’s imprisonment. Now 26 years later, women start being murdered in the same fashion as those committed by her father. When people realize who she is, they start to become suspicious. Is there a copy cat on the loose, or has she inherited all of her father’s genes?
Freida McFadden has done it again! True to her style, just when I thought I had it figured out, she got me again! Truly the queen of twists, I did not see the ending coming at all.
This book had me hooked from page 1. Definitely a fast paced thriller that I could not put down. I loved reading this book. Freida’s writing style has a way of keeping me wanting more and unable to stop reading til the end!
If you are a fan of Freida McFadden, do not skip this book. I have yet to be disappointed by her and I highly recommend this book as a quick read thriller. I will definitely be reading all the rest of her books.
Another super quick read by the one and only #friedamcfadden! Although this wasn’t my favorite of hers, it was a good one. The twist was there and completely unexpected. I love thrillers with serial killers and for this one to be about the daughter of a serial killer really caught my eye. Poor Nora is just trying to escape her parents past and attempting to live a normal life. As the copy cat killer takes shape, she becomes paranoid and I truly felt for her.
I devoured this in one day so if you are looking for a quick read that will keep you guessing till the end, this one is for you.
Thank you NetGalley for approving me for an eARC of the book, now being published under Poisoned Pen Press on Oct 2nd.
This book is binge-worthy and captivating. One of my favorites so far from Freida, having already read The Housemaid, The Inmate, and The Coworker. It has a gripping storyline. The protagonist, Nora, is the daughter of a notorious serial killer. The story is told in dual timelines, with glimpses of Nora’s childhood, along with the current timeline, with Nora being a successful surgeon. In the current timeline, one of Nora’s patients is found murdered in a similar manner as her father’s victims.
Nora is intriguing as a character and you question whether she is reliable as a narrator, which created an eerie and creepy tone in her narration at some points. There’s some great twists that I didn’t see coming. As is the case with all of Freida McFadden’s books that I’ve read so far, once I started I didn’t want to put it down. I recommend this one if you love fast-paced popcorn thrillers with a true crime element.
Thank you so much Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley.
When she was a kid, Nora's dad was a serial killer. He's in prison now, and she has changed her last name. She's a surgeon. One of her patients is murdered in the same way her dad killed his victims. Someone knows.
This book was such a thrilling ride of suspense. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Part of me was questioning Nora's intentions while the other part of me was convinced she was a victim. I did not figure it out. One of the best thrillers I've read this year.
I’ve seen this author’s books all over my social media but had yet to read one of her books. If this book is snuggling to go by - I’ll be adding all her books to my to be read pile! I read this book in a day! It kept me interested the entire time. I would recommend to anyone and everyone!
What a ride! Freida McFadden never disappoints. This one kept me up at night to see what was going to happen and I do not regret the lack of sleep. This was a fairly quick read and highly recommend!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review.
I have read several of Freida’s books and so far have loved each of them. This one did not disappoint. The plot starts a bit slowly but soon you are in for the ride of your life with the twists and turns. There were so many times I thought I knew how this would end, but I certainly did not until the end starts to reveal itself! I sat there for a few minutes after finishing thinking what just happened here!
Freida is truly a master of psychological thrillers!
As any McFadden book, this one was fast paced and kept me flipping pages. I’ve read several by her and am always trying to guess the twists, but am typically wrong. Enjoyed the character development, the short chapters, and captivating storyline.
This is such a fast read! It kept me guessing until the very end. Two of a doctor’s patients have been murdered and the method used was the same as her serial killer dad. Nora has kept her identity a secret for 26 years. But someone knows who she is and they are coming after her!
Definitely my new favorite author - wow, Freida McFadden totally draws you in with a clever plot, over-the-top suspense, and easy/smooth writing. The Locked Door covers the range of surgeon's vengeance, a serial killer's insanity, family drama, and a page-turning guess at whether our narrator is possibly lying. Highly recommended!
A couple of months ago, I was thrilled by the author’s The Coworker, a riveting and clever thriller with an innocuous office setting, but I was disappointed with this new thriller which has a pretty familiar serial killer plot. Familiar, in fact, because it seemed quite close to Stacy Willingham’s A Flicker in the Dark.
Twenty six years ago, Nora’s father was arrested and sentenced to multiple life sentences for killing a number of young women and, in a signature move, cutting their hands off. Nora has changed her last name and is now a highly successful surgeon but is intensely private and closed off emotionally. But when two of her patients, young women, are murdered and their hands cut off, and strange things keep happening in Nora’s house, she realizes she’s being set up - but by whom?
The author conjures up a nicely queasy atmosphere and we are given at least two suspects to opt for. Brad, a boyfriend from years ago, suddenly turns up and is intent on rekindling their romance and Philip, Nora’s partner in their medical practice, seems to know more about Nora than she would like. There’s also some chapters set twenty six years ago which suggest that maybe the apple hasn’t fallen too far from the tree.
All in all, there’s plenty for a thriller lover to enjoy but there’s nothing particularly original to go out of your way for.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen and Netgalley for the digital review copy.
The Locked Door is a new thriller by the master of storytelling, Freida McFadden. I love her novels that include female doctors as protagonists. I enjoyed this book as I always do with FMF's writing.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.
She does it again! This is a great thriller and I did not expect the twist at the end! Thank you to net galley and the publisher for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this!
Give me ALL the Freida McFadden books - I love her twisty plotlines {even the titles are simple, but draw you in!}
Just when I think I have it all figured out, NOPE!
Loved the character development of this story. Dr. Nora 🤯
SOOOO good!! This book was addicting and fast pace, just like all her other incredible books. I couldn’t see that ending coming even if I tried. I very much enjoyed this read and look forward to her next one, The Teacher. Thank you Freida for giving great books for us to enjoy.
On every US-based Facebook bookish group, there are many, many fans of Freida, and they keep talking about her amazing writing, scary plots, and twisty twists. Of course, I had to grab one of Freida's books to see what this hype is about. To my surprise...
Maybe it´s just one of the not-as-good-as-other books, maybe it´s her standard writing, I don´t know. But this does not deliver what was promised.
The writing is simple, too simple for my liking. The main character Nora is annoying, the way she treats other people makes you wonder why on earth people are nice to her, and why on earth is there anyone at all who actually wants to talk to her? Add to it the unbelievable Brady, Noras' ex who was her boyfriend about 15 years ago and only for 3 months, and who now follows her as if she was some sort of a goddess. What kind of a guy keeps being so nice to a person who treats him like s*t over and over again?
The story itself started off well and it got me hooked only until I started asking questions and looking for flaws. Oops.. too fast. Not to mention a weird, somehow forced ending, which doesn´t stick to the rest of the story in my opinion.
You know what or rather who I really really liked? THE CAT!
I love this book and I love Freida McFadden so much. Thank you so much netgalley for being able to read this book.
Freida does it again with an amazingly gripping story about a woman who had a serial killer as a father. I could not predict what would happen, the twists were great and caught be off guard. I thought it was funny how the main character Nora had a quirk where every times she comes home she says “Honey, I’m home”, but she’s talking to the empty house. I really liked how this book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering who the killer is and when we find out my mind was blown. Thank you NetGalley for and ARC ebook.
This is a great thriller from Freida McFadden. The story pulls you in right from the start. It’s a roller coaster of twists and turns; just when you think you have it figured out, a new wrinkle appears! McFadden rarely disappoints her readers and this one is true to her dynamic writing style. Really enjoyed it!
