Another fantastic thriller that will keep you up at night from the best selling author Freida McFadden.
I started this book at bed time… and I finished it by staying up WAY TOO LATE.
Was it worth the sleep deprivation? Absolutely!! I can not even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book, but I’m going to try…
This book is action packing with eerie and paranoid feelings. There are flashbacks to her childhood living with her serial killer father. Everything makes us question, how much of her is like him.
She knows that she has an urge to cause hurt just because she wants to. But she resists those tendencies everyday, and chooses to use her desires for good. She is a surgeon who is good at saving lives, because she enjoys it and isn’t squeamish about it. As a child we see her start to develop these psycopathical tendencies, and wonder if she grew out of them.
She has given up on deep meaningful relationships. She can’t trust anyone, herself included. She doesn’t even trust herself with a pet.
When copy cat killings of her father’s work pop up all around her, she isn’t sure who she can trust. All she knows is that she has spent her entire life resisting the temptation to be like her father, why would she slip up now.
This book really had me questioning whether or not our MC was who she represented herself as.
I absolutely love this author's books! So much suspense and I never see the ending coming! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Freida McFadden is one of my favorite psychological suspense novels, and this one was no exception. I particularly enjoyed this novel because there was a dual suspense mystery involved, as one wasn't exactly sure who was responsible for the times. Ultimately, this ended up being a bit of a feel-good story, surmounting odds, and all that. Another outstanding and thrilling novel, by an author who keeps getting even better!
One of my favorite books I have read this year. The plot twist really got me. I was thinking I figured out what is going on, but it turns out I was completely wrong.
It was fun read and I would continue to read her books. Yes, it is my first book by Freida.
Eventhough I gave this book a 5 stars, I was a little dissappointed in main character Nora. She was not really nice to Brandy, eventhough he was really nice to her. She was intime with him but did not want any other connection with her. Brandy wants to do anything to make things work out, but she is so distant for no reason. However, her 'reason' why she don't let him to be close, is because her father was monster and she decide not to trust anyone. I can, but I can't understand her...
At some part it was kind a hard read, because some scenes are described really into detail, which can be hard for some readers.
The book all over was fun, easy and fast read. I love short chapters and many times I was like 'omg what is happening' and I was re-reading some parts to my boyfriend (he is listening to me every single time I want to share my thoughts about any book, eventhough he don't like thriller books 😀).
I would recommend this book to everyone who loves good and fast reading thrillers.
This was my first Freida McFadden book and it won't be my last! I totally understand the hype around her books.
The Locked Door drew me in from the very beginning. I was hooked and finished it within 24 hours.
The storyline was thrilling, the plot twists were unexpected, the character development was wonderful.
I have to give this 4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but the climax felt a bit forced and rushed. There are a few minor things would have liked to have seen, but overall it was a fantastic read!
I raced through this - it was hard to put down. A real written thriller, in true Freida McFadden style, she is quickly becoming my go to author.
I enjoyed the flashbacks to childhood, the twists and the ending. Super fast paced, and the short chapters make for an easy read and I loved how Freida's style is exciting and entertaining without being too heavy.
Really enjoyed this! Easy 5 stars from me.
Dr. Nora Davis is a successful surgeon who keeps to herself. She also happens to be the daughter of a serial killer. As her father spends his life behind bars for crimes he committed when Nora was 11 years old, she has been able to keep her tragic past to herself by not letting anyone know about her horrific childhood. So when she discovers that one of her young female patients has been murdered in the exact same way as her father's unique manner, the question becomes- is someone trying to frame Nora? Or does Nora have something to hide? . . .
This is a book that you will devour in one sitting! The story will hook you from the very first page and the fast-paced, short chapters will keep you totally invested. I have read my fair share of thrillers and mysteries and I love the fact that Freida can still get me every time with her insane plot twists that you never see coming. I will forever be a McFan and jump at the chance to read EVERYTHING she writes!
Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for the digital copy!

Freida McFadden does it again! The whole way along I was guessing it who did it and guess what? I got it wrong!
Nora Davis is a surgeon and also a loner. She doesn’t want to get close to anyone because she doesn’t want to explain her past. Who her father is and have people think she’s the same as him. However, two woman that were Nora’s patients go missing. Is Nora the same as her father?
Thank you #NetGalley for the advance read!
What a fun ride! Freida McFadden is the definition of "bingeable". I fly her books and am usually on the edge of my seat. The Locked Door is no exception.
Nora is only eleven years old when her father is convicted of murdering women in their basement. Decades later she is a successful doctor, but all of a sudden her patients start dying under mysteriously similar circumstances to how her father killed his victims. But how is that possible when he is in prison?
I don't want to give too much away because I think it's best just to dive right into this book, but make sure you have some uninterrupted time to finish it because you'll want to read it in one sitting.
Another great Freida book.
Nora is the daughter of a serial killer. You can imagine the trauma that has created in her life. Now many years later she is a surgeon. Due to changing her last name, no one in her current life knows who's daughter she is and she wants to keep it that way.
Told in dual timelines of when Nora was a child and present day. In typical McFadden fashion each chapter ending leaves you wanting to start the next one. I love how easy her books are to read. I did not guess the ending even though I had several possible suspects in mind.
This is a book that was previously published. I had not read this one yet so jumped at the chance. I will get through all her books someday.
Thanks to netgalley and Poison Penned Press for the early readers copy.
Freida McFadden does it again! A twisty psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last page. While I don’t think McFadden is the best technical writer in the field, she holds her own with creative twists and unique characters.
The Locked Door 🚪
Nora is a successful surgeon whose father happens to be a notorious serial killer. Decades after her father gets locked up, Nora’s quiet life gets shaken up when her patients start getting murdered in the same specific way her father used to kill. And the police are trying to pin the murders on her…
I’m struggling a little bit deciding what to rate this one. I really like this author’s writing style and I plowed through this book just like a flew through The Coworker. However, I just don’t think this book is as well done as The Coworker. I will say that I did NOT see the twist coming, but it did seem outlandish and kinda half baked. So I think in terms of my enjoyment of the book I want to give it 4 stars but in terms of the quality of the book I want to give it 3. So I’m going to split the difference and go with 3 1/2. I still enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others but I wouldn’t say this is the first book of hers that I would pick up!

Book: The Locked Door
Author: Freida McFadden
Genre: Psychological thriller
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
After reading the book, I'm just thankful that I read it through netgalley. What astounds me though is that the book has numerous positive reviews!!
It was really, REALLY, mediocre. That's it.
I can't wrap my head around how this book specifically is popular. I haven't read other books by the author to know if her other work is the same, but this one was extremely subpar.
First of all, the book doesn't have a concrete plot. There are people dying, and the main character is a serial killer's daughter. These are the main points we are working with. However, there was no storyline. It felt like reading about the day to day life of the MC, when suddenly killings start to happen.
Secondly, an unreliable narrative is great in thrillers. However, in the end, you need to give the truth. I finished the book, and, for the life of me, can't understand whether the MC was a psychopath, or not. The author made it super vague to the point you don't actually grasp what happened, and what didn't.
Also, the writing style was rather weak. I like simple writing, and actually prefer it to a wordy, complex one. In the book's case, it was too basic. Some parts felt like each sentence was detached from the next.
Lastly, I really hated the ending. I'd not even call what happened in the end plot twists. They were just the author's last try for shock value.
Don't recommend it at all.

As the daughter of an infamous serial killer, Nora Nierling may have changed her surname in order to leave her past behind, but her past has other plans.
Now a doctor, and very much a loner, she finds herself unexpectedly in the spotlight after a couple of her past patients are found dead using her father's signature techniques. Since Nora's father is still in prison, this has to be a copycat - unless, as the police believe, it is Nora herself.
I had already read several of McFadden's thrillers before she really hit the big time, so to speak. I always found her books entertaining, though her no-frills writing style and the requirement for a suspension of disbelief wrt most of the endings of her stories meant that I was quite excited at the prospect of reading a story from her that sounded like a more mature version of her creative capacities.
As an additional draw, this book has a killer premise (pun intended). And while this trope has been done before, I was hopeful that McFadden would be able to make it her own. In the end, the book was a mixed bag for me.
The flashbacks indicate that Nora either picked up certain things from daddy, or had certain intrinsic tendencies. How she became a doctor is not too strange an idea when you think about the possible interest a serial killer's daughter might have in anatomy, but it is a little puzzling in terms of the spirit of the Hippocratic oath.
The elements of the human psyche that explain the chemistry of co-dependent relationships - plus the whole "nature and nurture" debate - play a part in explaining the underlying factors that lend plausibility to the story.
But there were a number of flaws evident here. Nora was not a sympathetic character, even when you wanted to feel positively inclined towards her because of her traumatic childhood. It would have also provided a more interesting contrast with her father had she herself been more likeable.
The short chapters worked well, and the plot was quite suspenseful. However, the foreshadowing left something to be desired. Twists work best when there are subtle hints as to what might happen. When they come out of left field, not so much...
The Locked Door has a solid premise but was not well executed. It is fast paced, a quick read, and held my attention. I did not connect with any of the characters.

4.5 stars rounded up.
.
I’m a pretty normal fan of Freida’s books but this one may be tied for my first place read by her.
.
The Locked Door is about Nora- an established surgeon but also the daughter of a serial killer who killed over twenty women. Nora’s recent patients have been found killed in a very similar fashion as her father’s victims. Is Nora taking after her father or is she being framed by someone else?
.
Honestly I know I say this every time but I realllllly was not expecting that twist ending at all. My jaw dropped and I was shocked. The story really kept you on your toes the whole way through.
.
A must read if you love Freida McFadden’s books but also if you like psychological thrillers. This one is for you!

This book was okay. It kept my interest, it was a fast read, and the main character was interesting. I just don’t think there was anything about it that made it memorable or different from other thrillers.
This book was okay. It kept my interest, it was a fast read, and the main character was interesting. I just don’t think there was anything about it that made it memorable or different from other thrillers.
Nora Davis is doing her best to distance herself from her past, growing up with a serial killer father. She has worked to build her career as a surgeon under a different name and make sure no one finds out who she really is.
I love the way Freida McFadden writes thrillers. She does a great job keeping her books fast paced, suspenseful, and mysterious. Every book I’ve read of hers has been impossible to put down and this book was no exception. I’ve read lots of thrillers, so generally the twists aren’t a huge surprise to me, but in this case I definitely did not figure out the killer.
I didn’t love the wrap up / big reveal. I thought the ending was a little contrived. I also thought some of the loose ends weren’t really tied up so I had a bunch of questions about why certain characters did certain things, but I won’t go into detail because of spoilers. I just thought there were some plot holes that didn’t make sense. Overall, though this book was good. It kept me engrossed and I binged it all in a day!
Another well written book by Freida! Fast and easy read with page turning chapters! It has a couple twists and leaves you suspecting until the reveal. Perfect book for fall time when you want to get cozy with a blanket and read a thriller.
I cannot say enough positive praise for Frieda! I’ve lost count on how many of her books I’ve read, but she still manages to make me think I know what’s going to happen, then completely flips it around! The Locked Door was no exception and I was hooked!
