Freida McFadden does not disappoint yet again! This book sucked me in right from the beginning and kept me hooked. I finished it in less than 24 hours because I did not want to put it down. I found myself thinking several times that I had figured out the mystery and who the killer was, but each time I thought I had it figured out, a wrench was thrown in and I was doubting myself again. That was actually a positive and slight negative about the book. I loved the setup for different characters that had me really questioning them, but I did feel like the possible suspects got shot down really quickly and another introduced. I would have liked to have more tension and build up with the different potential suspects. But I did not find this off putting in a way that would lead me to not finish or rate it poorly.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and will continue reading everything Freida puts out there!

If you're looking for a quick read that isn't super bogged down with dates, characters or other extraneous details, Freida McFadden is for you. Don't get me wrong her books are always interesting and well written, I sometimes just find them a little vanilla or too easy to read.
That being said I thoroughly enjoyed the locked door. This is definitely my favorite of her books, the housemaid books were good but this one was very good.
The story takes place both in the past and the present, a little girl's dad is convicted of being a serial killer. Fast forward to her current Life as a doctor when patients start going missing in the same manner that her dad killed the girls years before.
I like the idea of her blatant innocence as an adult, but reading things about her past makes her come off in a different light. Like you want to root for her because she didn't do it, but you still don't like her because of things in her past. I appreciate the complexity of being the reader.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the e-arc.
This was my first book by Freida McFadden and it sure won't be my last. It kept my attention, especially in the latter half of the book when I was trying to guess who was the murderer. If you enjoy an unreliable narrator and a twists psychological book be sure to get this.
4 stars!

I can finally understand the big deal about Frieda McFadden. This book was brilliant. The short chapters made it easy to get hooked from the start. The plot was reviving and fast-paced as we learned that Nora’s father is a serial murderer incarcerated for being known as the Handyman. The switching of POVs between the past and present helped tie the pieces together. The ending had me shaken. I had no clue where the story would lead me, and the end was very unexpected. The attempt to portray Nora as a potential heir was clever, and I think the ending, especially the epilogue, made it clear that Frieda did an excellent job with the effort. Frieda McFadden may be popular due to Booktok, but her books will make you think she is the queen of twists. I am also a sucker for good serial killer stories, and this book successfully met my expectations.
Thank you to NetGallery and to Poisoned Pen Press for my copy of the book.

Thanks so much NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the free e-book.
I really enjoyed and loved The Housemaid, so I was excited to pick up another Freida McFadden book.
The Locked Door was a fast-paced thriller with some shocking moments along the way. I enjoyed the latter part of the book so much and I kept guessing who the killer was. At some point, I said “I knew it!!!” but I was still wrong!
Pick this up if you want a fun (and crazy) psychological thriller!

4.5 stars - Always loved reading Freida McFadden's books. I am slowly going through her backlist. I love how her chapters are short and the pacing is fast.
The Locked Door kept me on my toes. There were so many twists and turns. Highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast-paced thriller.

wow, did not see that coming. i love fredia’s writing style so much, i could not put this down. so good.

Gripping!
This thriller is told from the perspective of a serial killers daughter. Nora has tried to escape her past and create a normal life for herself. She doesn’t date & she doesn’t have pets. She is alone, other than her co workers at her practice. Until her past catches up with her….
What a unique story! Not a surprise coming from Freida McFadden! This book was so easy to read and unputdownable. I found myself saying “ok just one more chapter”. There is something so cozy about Freida’s book… even though they’re about murder LOL
In true Freida fashion, what a twist! I was not expecting that at all. This was such a good book, possibly the best I’ve read so far 2023.

Freida doesn’t write a bad book. Was this my favorite? No. Was it good? Yes. I recommend this book and thank you NetGalley for this arc.

I really enjoyed The Housemaid and I loved The Inmate, so I was excited to pick up another Freida McFadden book. The Locked Door did not live up to the greatness of those other two books. I was a little bored up until around the 73% mark where things really start to pick up. I did enjoy how the book wrapped up, and we got a little more insight into Nora at the very end. It was a very bingeable read though and I appreciate that because sometimes you just need a quick read to cleanse your palette. I look forward to reading more of Freida's work in the future.

I finished reading this book in a day. Easy breezy, a very promising book, I had hoped for more twists but found the book engaging nonetheless

Thank you Netgalley for the gift of The Locked Door by Freida McFadden.
This book was about the daughter of a serial murderer who takes you through her life as such, and could she have inherited her father's tendencies. I enjoyed the book and read it in just 2 days. The twist was something I did not see coming and was really surprised by it. What I really enjoyed was the epilogue. Makes me wonder of there may be a The Unlocked Door!?!

Thanks so much to Poisoned Pen Press for the free e-book!
Has anyone checked to make sure Freida is okay?
As always, she delivers a quick and binge-worthy thriller with some JAW-DROPPING moments along the way and an ending that's sure to take the reader by surprise.
I always love Freida's characters because they leave you second guessing if they're the crazy ones or if you are the whole time! As it turns out, the answer is usually that the characters in these books and their readers are a little crazy, but we're okay with that!
Definitely pick this up for a fun (and crazy) read that you won't be able to put down!
Poisoned Press will be re-releasing this book with a new cover on October 3rd!
3.5 stars rounded up for GR

The first McFadden book I’ve read and I was not disappointed! The story, pace and writing kept me interested. The only flaw would be the ending which fell a little flat for me given how good the rest of the book was. I will be checking out other books by McFadden!

The Locked Door is another page turner by Freida McFadden whose books I can’t get enough of.
That door certainly should have stayed locked but 11 year old Nora just had to open it .
Her life was never the same .
Her dad is a notorious serial killer .
Twenty six years later with a new surname and she is a successful surgeon the killings with her dad’s trademark are starting again .
Nora’s patient is the first victim and she finds herself in the spotlight as the prime suspect.
Who can Nora trust and can we trust her as the narrator.
Pages turn quickly as the tension mounts and the ending will surprise you .
Settle in with your copy of The Locked Door and be prepared to read on one sitting .
Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for a suspenseful read

Love love this book! Had so many twists. I was kept guessing the whole time and I couldn't stop reading! It normally takes me a week to read a book but I finished this in just a couple days. I have only read one Freida book before and this was even better! I can't wait to read the Housemaid next!

She has done it again! You will not want to put it down. You think you have it figured out and then you change your mind just to wind up finding out you were always going to be wrong. Frieda writes fast paced quick reading thrillers that leave your mind spinning at the end... how did I not think of that?! Any Frieda fan will enjoy this read. Only reason for 4 start instead of 5 was because my non cat loving personality I really needed her to mention the "makeshift litter box" way sooner than she did. (Sorry to all my cat loving readers)

Freida McFadden does it again. A page-turning, psychological thriller that leaves you guessing until the last page. Told from 11 year old Nora and adult Nora’s POV alternating between short chapters. Without giving spoilers Nora’s father was a serial killer. He was tried and convicted and her mother committed suicide while awaiting trial. Nora was raised by her grandmother and she did her best to distance herself from her past including changing her name. She made a life for herself as a successful surgeon. Nora may be paranoid and she may have triggers but for a good reason.
I read this non-stop one quiet evening. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5⭐️’s is the ending. I’m not sure if it is meant to leave you wanting more or a part two ? Or if it just wraps it up quickly. I could see both but it’s kind of tied up in a bow and I could have totally seen a cliff hanger

Freida Mcfadden does not disappoint. Dark, twisty and shocking all in one.
Nora is the daughter of a convicted serial killer but no one knows this. So who is copy catting her father's murders and why is the evidence pointing to her.
I devoured this book on two sittings and the twists kept me hooked throughout.

Frieda McFadden is the queen of hit or miss for me!!! It’s so wild how split I am on her overall. It’s why I keep reading her books!
Sadly this one was a miss. I just wasn’t pulled in as much as I’d like to be for a thriller. It felt like a lot of build up to not enough pay-off. I understand the inclusion of all the flashbacks but those parts dragged for me compared to the present day story.
I’ll keep giving her books a try though!
