this was a very sweet graphic novel, i loved the grumpy/sunshine trope but a lot of it felt very cliché. the illustrations were beautiful and the pacing was great!

This graphic novel is such a sweet, meet-cute romance! I love the pastel colors, the cover, and cute character designs of Murry and Jacob. The art is charming and the overall story is calming with some serious undertones (about mental illness, homophobia, etc.). Both characters were sweet and supportive of each other with a non-toxic relationship. I just wish there was a little more development between them before they got together. But overall this is a really cute and quick read. But nothing memorable for me, personally.

Thank you Cassandra, Mosskat and Yen Press for an arc in exchange for an honest review!!

This book is perfect for Heartstopper fans. Two boys meet when one moves from the city to the country, and the other boy lives next door on his farm. What begins as a friendship becomes something more , and the boys will have to fight for their relationship. The characters are so sweet, you will be dying for a volume 2!

This was such an adorable graphic novel, I 100% loved it!
It was very wholesome and I loved the way the characters supported each other, they were extremely cute together. One thing that stood out to m was that Murry doesn’t have to define his sexuality and never does, he actually talks about it not mattering as long as he likes his partner. While labels are helpful to many, others don’t feel that way and it was nice to see that reflected in fiction for once.
One of the MCs also has D.I.D., which in my opinion was portrayed well and respectfully, but I am no expert on the topic.
The drawing style was very fitting and adorable: I loved the funny little bits in between and both the characters faces and body language was very expressive.
I also very much appreciated the little looks into the future, that we get at the end of the book, as well as the explanation around D.I.D.
So, if you’re looking for a wholesome and adorable achillean graphic novel, this is it.

Thanks to NetGalley, Cassandra Jean, and Mosskat for providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Somehow I didn't realise this was going to be a graphic novel, which is absolutely my own fault for overlooking that. I enjoyed that it was, though, and I find the art style pleasing and cute.
Overall, this is a very sweet, light read. It touches on issues of mental health and past trauma, but with a light hand, and it's more focused on the idea of two very different boys at the point of falling in love than anything else. I would have honestly preferred a little more drama and plot, but I think that's just a matter of taste. I enjoyed the sweetness of it nonetheless.

I already loved Cassandra Jean’s art from the work she’s done with Cassandra Clare, but this graphic novel made me love her even more. It was SO visually beautiful and there were so many thoughtful little touches in each illustration that I appreciated and adored. As for the storyline, I was immediately an absolute sucker for Jacob and Murry (I love me a soft jock/nerd pairing) and I thought Jacob’s mental health journey was portrayed so beautifully and honestly. I will absolutely be recommending this graphic novel to customers.

I liked the concept, but I felt like it was missing something. I would have prefered the story to be longer and more detailed, now it just felt rushed. I loved the characters, they just instantly felt cosy and nice. And the artwork ofcourse was beautiful

This was very sweet and wholesome! I already knew Cassandra's Jean work because of her illustrations to Cassandra Clare and I loved it to see her work!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I… have mixed feelings on this graphic novel, albeit not many.

The characters! Both were well-developed on their own and together, and some of their dialogue exchanges together made me smile or laugh. Very cute and sweet and endearing. The colours! This is quite pleasing to read for the most part, the colours work together well and really immerse you in the setting. The dialogue was also really really well done, realistic and heartfelt but not falling into any stereotypes. I didn’t understand the meaning of the title and how it connected to the story, but it was a great read nonetheless. They’re both so supportive and encouraging towards each other and it was really validating to see a realistic description of self-harm in media, that didn’t fall into stereotypes or assumptions. I felt… seen by that, very much so, even though it’s only mentioned in one scene.

The panels and style of conveying characters’ thoughts didn’t work for me at first, but about halfway through it began to feel right. I wonder if it was just because this was an ARC or eBook, but some of quality was awful. Not of the art - of the resolution. Some aspects of pictures were surrounded by this strange dark grey outline, and it was a bit jarring sometimes, although not enough to draw me out of the story. The artist also overuses cartoon-ish style tears, and some of the expressions didn’t correspond to the text - for example, characters who are meant to be welcoming look annoyed, that sort of thing.

That said, this was quite a fun read, and I got through it in one or two sittings! Definitely pick it up if you want a sweet queer romance with some slightly heavier undertones.

Cuckoos Three is such a sweet little graphic novel! Jacob and his family move next door to Murry, who instantly decides Jacob is going to be his friend, and the rest is history. This book touches on some heavy topics like mental health, homophobia, childhood abuse, and small-town insularism, but is ultimately a pretty light and soft read. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer! But I'm so thankful there were little "epilogue" short scenes after the story to give some follow up. Overall, I was enamored of the story and the characters, and I'll be looking forward to whatever Cassandra Jean and Mosskat work on next!

I just reviewed Cuckoos Three by Cassandra Jean, Mosskat. #CuckoosThree #NetGalley
I always loved Cassandra Jean's art style ever since I started reading Shadowhunters at the age of 14 I always looked at the official fanart which where mostly from cassandra Jean and I immediately fell in love with the art style. Finding out that Cassie Jean made a graphic novel, I obviously had to drop everything and read it.
Honestly It was such a good book and I love how mental illness was incorporated in this.

Thank you to Yen Press for my digital advanced review copy!

I am a simple person. I see that Cassandra Jean drew something, therefore I must appreciate the art. I wasn't let down in that regard with Cuckoos Three. It was as beautifully drawn as always. It's also full colour, and the colour palette was beautiful, too. Very atmospheric without being super detailed.

Neither Cassandra nor Mosskat have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), or are trained in psychology, so it's understandable that the story was very surface level in regards to DID. However, the depiction of DID (to me, who also has no background in psychology) was not a negative or harmful one. It was explained well, I think, in a way that wasn't overly complex and would probably be beneficial to the greater public. I consider it in the vein of something like the Disney adaptation of Marvel's Moon Knight. Happy to see more media discussing why people have disorders like DID in an open fashion.

As someone who spent a significant portion of their youth in a rural environment, the depiction of the setting also was good.

Overall, good. Pretty good. I just wish there was *more*, for lack of a better explanation. More build-up. More character building. More relationship discussions. Still, good, and I recommend it.

This was a beautifully queer graphic novel that explored mental health and D.I.D., something I've never come across in a book before. The romance was very grumpy/sunshine which I always love. Cute and cozy but wishing there was more to the story!

Son state fantastiche!

Grazie Netgalley per avermi permesso di leggerlo in anteprima!

I read this comic in one sitting and loved it!
It's so smooth and sweet and comfortable... that I couldn't stop reading it!
The drawings are gorgeous and have a very particular style, a bit grunge and dreamy.
The story is really very simple, but it deals with a topic that is almost never talked about, that of dissociative personality disorder and the traumas that caused it.
Everything is handled with a truly fantastic delicacy and I really have to pay kudos to both the author and the artist who made it.

I'm just a little confused about the title. I don't understand what that means.

I really hope to read more from this pairing of authors. They have been fantastic!

Thanks Netgalley for letting me read the book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me this eArc to review.

I have been a fan of Cassandra Jean for years now and I have always loved their art. Cuckoo's Three has not disappointed me as the art is lovely and flows so well. The story is fairly simple and sweet which makes it a perfect book to read in one.

SPOILER:
A character has D.I.D and the author does say at the end that they have done research with books and talking to people with D.I.D but I cannot say how well it was portrayed within the book as I have 0 knowledge of D.I.D

Cassandra Jean and Mosskat's Cuckoos Three is a charming exploration of mental health that isn't afraid to show the good, the bad, and the ugly of its characters. I wish the story had more space to flesh out some of its characters though, and end of the story was a bit rushed. However, it was still a great read, and I'd recommend it to fans of Heartstopper.

Cuckoos Three is probably one of the most beautiful graphic novels I've read during 2023, both in the sense of the story, which is super simple but at the same time super beautiful and it was super easy to get attached and follow the characters, and the art which is beautiful, the strokes and colors are perfect! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review!

I've followed Cassandra Jean for years so it was exciting to see a project she had worked on for so long finally get published. This was an incredibly cute and heartfelt story. Murry made me want to cry with how cute he was and I was in love with how his labrador personality mixed with Jacob's black cat personality. The way Jacob's mental health was dealt with and talked about was perfect. It was informative and humanizing but it also didn't take over his personality. It was just another aspect of him. Their romance, the main focus, was so cute and fun. The small, southern town bullying was quite spot on if much more tame than real life and I loved how confident Murry was in their relationship instead of backing down. Overall this was a wonderfully fun little story. Cassandra Jean's art was beautiful as well and did a great job capturing everyone in perfect detail.
