Princess Fuzzypants here: it took a while to get into this book, not because the material was not interesting but because there were so many characters that it was hard to follow. But once I got my bearings and settled into the story, it was one of great courage, pluck, and daring. A young Australian who was left behind after the Blitzkrieg overwhelmed France in WWII decides to stay, rather than trying to make his way back to the UK. He becomes an integral part of the resistance who toiled to help others escape the Nazi nets.

It is also a story of betrayal. Someone whose true loyalties were only to himself flipped on the members of the team that was working in the north of France. Many, including the hero of the book, were swept up and ultimately ended up murdered by the Nazis. It is a story that I had not heard before and it was moving and compelling. One of the authors is the nephew of Dowding and so has a very personal story to tell.

So many risked all to save those they could. Their bravery deserves to be told. Four purrs and two paws up.

An inspiring read! The work this individual performed in WW2 is extraordinary. His dedication to helping others escape occupied France was truly a great story. The hardships he faced were heartbreaking. A great read!
