This book with a popular children's cartoon character focuses on observation and cause and effect. Elinor figures out why a plant grows in zigzag. I think youngsters will like it.
The characters from the PBS series Elinor Wonders are the focus for this book .
Elinor and her friends are growing plants as part of a school project, one day after weekend break Elinor notices that one plant is growing differently from the others . This is the start of an investigation as to why this one plant is different from the others .
I enjoyed this story and think it would be a great addition to any science curriculum on plant studies in the early grades .
I just reviewed Elinor Wonders Why: The Mystery of the Zigzag Plant by Jorge Cham, Daniel Whiteson. #NetGalley
This time the kids are wondering why a plant grew in a zigzag. Did it happen in nature or did it happen because of something else. The kids ask good questions and use the clues in nature to help them find the answer. This is a fantastic series, and I understand why so many people like it.
Me and my children enjoyed this story with all the characters within. It's about Elinor and her friends that are in school. They have planted some seed in pots and are watching them grow. But something happens to one of the plant and Elinor wants to know what happened. So her and friends become detectives to find out why the plant is doing a zigzag.
This was a fun story to read. It had action, adventure, and surprises. It had a few giggles within. The illustrations were colorful and follow the story well.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
Elinor and her friends become detectives and look into the mystery of the zigzag plant when one of their school plays grows in a zigzag shape. As always, this Elinor Wonders Why series teaches kids without them even realizing they are learning. This books helps teach kids about science and relates it to something they could see everyday. I really enjoyed this book and the story it told. The illustrations are fun and engaging and my son loved pointing out the different characters in them. I look forward to seeing more books in this great series!
Another great addition to the Elinor Wonders Why series, this time delving into the science of plants.
Elinor and her friends must solve the mystery of why Ari's plant is growing differently than the others.
Along the way, the characters get to learn about what it takes to successfully grow a plant from its seed.
A wonderful aspect of these books is that there are facts about the given topic at the end, perfect for curious young minds who may want to know more after reading the book.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me with a copy in order to give my honest opinion.
Elinor Wonders Why: The Mystery of the Zigzag Plant is a lovely children's book.
The story has a science and nature theme, encouraging children to use their own imagination, observations and critical thinking.
Elinor and her 2 friends are watching their seedlings grow. They learn that seedlings will sprout and grow up to the sun.
When returning to school, after the weekend, one seedling has grown in a zig zag, unlike the others that are straight.
This sparks their curiosity as to why this happened. They discuss ideas, speak to other friends and make observations.
After retracing their steps on Friday they realise Ari had accidently knocked it over, so the seedling had grown sideways in the direction of the sun.
The illustrations are beautiful and the characters are cute, which enables the reader to visualise the story.
The book allows children to express why they think the seedling grew in a zig zag after Ari knocked it over. It gives room to spark curiosity and for children to try their own experiments.
This is a lovely book full of wonder and curiosity. I would recommend this book to children aged 4-8 years.
My mom and I love watching the show this book is based on for its sweet characters and joyful look into nature and the world around us, and I found this book to be every bit as delightful! The story was short enough to keep kids' interest while still being entertaining and informative, and the extra facts at the back were a nice touch! Ari remains my favorite character - who doesn't love a bat??
Thanks to NetGalley and the creators for the eARC of this book!
This is such a great book for early elementary. Everything seems to go so fast learning words like ‘observation’ as well as cause and effect of things like water, light, soil, and even accidents are vital skills in learning. And let’s not forget our characters. They are so cute and together will learn so many things. Thank you to NetGalley PBS Kids and the authors for a chance to review this book. I am sharing things with my teacher friends right away
Elinor and her friends are on another learning adventure. A mystery to be solved.
Each of Elinor's friends are unique and make learning fun. They are planting a plant and when one of the plants grow in a zig zag pattern, they become perplexed and ask questions. They are silly and fun in their discovery of the great mystery of the Zigzag plant.
A special thank you to Kid's Can Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Elinor Wonders Why: The Mystery of the Zigzag Plant is a story about a young girl (rabbit) and her two friends Olive and Ali. Olive is an elephant, and she never forgets! Ari is a bat, and he's a huge jokester. The kids are growing plants at school, and they learn that the plants always grow up toward the sun.
Friday afternoon after school is out, Ari is doing flips and knocks one of the plants over. Mrs Mole notices it on Saturday and puts it upright, so when the kids come to school on Monday, the plant is in a zigzag shape. The kids do a little digging into why the plant grew that way, and realized that the plant was growing toward the sun the whole time! It was on it's side one day, so it grew sideways to reach the sun. Then when it was put upright again, it straightened up. Totally logical!
I love the illustrations in these books. The kids are adorable. I love that they are so curious about the world, and that they always try to understand the things around them, especially when they don't make sense at first. It's important for kids to be curious, to ask questions, and to learn to search out answers. Super fun book to encourage kids to learn!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
