Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kids Can Press for the ARC of this!
A fascinating look at animal behaviors and how they compare to human behaviors. They extrapolated animal feelings from these behaviors in a way that made it clear it was conjecture, but added understanding to how scientists make these hypothesis.
This is a really interesting book! I loved the colorful illustrations as well. Animals really are amazing. We had so much fun learning about how they communicate, corporate, & change. A wide array of animals were featured and there were so many things that I didn't know. This is a fabulous non-fiction book with a great glossary as well (I will mention this every time as I really like to see these included).
We will be revisiting this book as I think there is more to learn on a second read through.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC of this title. This is a detailed nonfiction book that looks at different animals. It has a lot of textual paragraphs, so geared more toward upper elementary students.
Beautifully illustrated and creatively curated, Think Like a Goat is a fascinating and exciting read. I thought it was super fun and very informative as a read.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is an interesting and informative look at the different ways animals communicate using sounds and gestures, to warn one another of possible danger, and share information. The book is pretty text-heavy, so I'd recommend this one for older kids.
One thing that I didn't realize before having kids is how popular nonfiction is. Especially when it is about animals! I think that I didn't realize this before because when I was a child the quality of nonfiction books was not as great as it is now. Think Like a Goat is a fun nonfiction book where kids get to learn about how smart animals truly are. As you go through the book you learn about ways animals are so smart and I learned so many things that I never would have thought an animal could. And my kids love this stuff! They love to discover it and then quiz each other on these new facts.
A stunningly illustrated look into the world of animal adaptations and intelligence.
As a former children’s encyclopedia-loving kids and a current Pre K - 8 informal environmental educator, I very much enjoyed this book. It outlines for the reader a great perspective of understanding what intelligence means for different animals and what factors we should be considering when we think about how intelligent an animal is. With eye-catching illustrations, this book takes you on a journey to explore many unique and incredible adaptations among the animal world.
I highly recommend this read for those with kiddos interested in animals and the natural world or for teachers looking for fun and digestible information to add to their lessons.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Fabulous nonfiction book about animal facts. It talked about how they use their intelligence to communicate and problem solve. It will be popular with my middle school nonfiction fans.
Think Like a Goat is categorized (in NetGalley) as Children's Nonfiction, Outdoors & Nature. The book is illustrated with graphics very similar to those shown on the cover. The language in Think Like a Goat packs a powerful punch. Partially I would think that this book is mature for "children", but last week I noticed that my 4 year old nephew prefers nonfiction over fiction. So if you have a child who is an animal lover, especially one drawn towards nonfiction, this is a book that will help them take their interest to the next level. (I did not see if the 4 year old was interested to review this particular book; his current interest is trains and dinosaurs.)
I feel that as a 50+ year old, I found some things that I learned from this book (and I've always loved animals).
The other thing that I noticed about Think Like a Goat, the author talks about some animal behaviors and provides the source of the information. 1) this provides information so that the youngster could research further and 2) provides a basis for future class reports and/or research papers.
Thank you to NetGalley and publisher Kids Can Press for approving my request to review the advance read copy of Think Like a Goat in exchange for an honest review. Lisa Deresti Betik did a great job with writing the text and illustrator Alexander Mostov did a great job with the graphics. Publication date is 03 Oct 2023.
I love science non fiction. Despite this being a children's book, I enjoyed this a lot. I'm a biology major in college, and I learned quite a few new things about animal behavior that I wouldn't have known without picking up a textbook. I'm definitely going to buy a copy for the kids in my life, because I think they will love this.

Kids who love animals and/or random facts will enjoy this book. Whole there is nothing amazing about most of the information, it has a really nice variety and flows well
I learned a lot of animals facts reading this book! Think Like a Goat opens a reader's eyes to how the lives of animals are just as exciting and intricate as our own and that animals have incredible understanding and skills that we don't notice. This is a cool book for kids of all ages. The illustrations are playful representations of the text and add to the story that is being told - there is once page about pigs strategizing to get the most food and the sneaky pig drawings made me chuckle. The book wraps up with a message about how we need to have a greater understanding of animals and there is a lot we can learn from them! This could be extrapolated out to discuss needing to preserve animal habitats and resources as well. The backmatter includes a glossary, selected sources, and an index.

Omg! This is so much fun to read! I love the presentation, the information, the way things are given to the reader. I am sure both adults and young readers alike will enjoy this book because it’s so pleasing both to the eye and mind.
The content focuses on some common birds and animals on the way they communicate; how animals rely on other animals for safety and communication. The titbits, the illustrations and the language all complement each other so well.
Do check this book out when it comes out. I forgot the two screens in front of me for an entire hour devouring the book. It’s fun I tell you!
Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the advance reading copy.
Think Like a Goat is an amazing cornucopia of interesting information about animals and their intelligence. The book looks at different kinds of intelligence, such as evolution, communication, working together, problem solving, and emotional intelligence in a wide variety of animals, birds, and sea creatures.
There is so much fascinating information in this book for kids that are interested in animals. The illustrations are marvelous and relevant to the topic, and the book is so much fun! Great addition to your classroom, school, or library! ⭐
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Thanks to netgalley and publisher for this arc!
Adorable insightful quick fun book about animals their intelligence and how they interact with eachother! The drawings were cute and love the title so much!
Definitely a perfect book for students to do research on animals and communication. The bright colors and illustrations definitely keep the readers attention and the information is great! I can definitely see using this as a great nonfiction book for explaining text features, science research project, or just a casual read for anyone interested in animals.
I loved it! This is a great introduction to ethology (the science of animal behavior). Very interesting and accessible information that will hold readers' attention from start to finish. I was engaged throughout and read it in a single sitting.
Although this is marketed to middle grade readers, it will appeal to readers of all age levels who are interested in animals (sans the technical complexity of a publication geared toward the adult scientific community). This really is a great collection for any learning library.
Great chapter book to teach children about animal behavior, scientific research and a bit of evolution. I found the book interesting for myself too. The book was easily readable with fun and interesting studies and behaviors. We learn about all kind of animals, not just goats. I thought the illustrations and the way the pages were laid out made it eye catching and easier to read. This book has a lot of information and I would recommend it for a student interested in science and animals. Thank you Netgalley.
A really interesting fact filled book. I liked the illustrations too. My daughter enjoyed looking through this one with me as she really loves animals.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
