About two adventurous smart inventor siblings, they must work together to achieve their dreams. Their teamwork helps them with their goals and succeed together, teaching a valuable lesson to everyone who reads it.
Despite their initial irritation with each other over a collision mishap involving their respective projects, when space-crazy siblings Jet and Jordy join forces they quickly learn how much further they can go as a team. So they decide to enter a NASA contest offering a very special prize.
Each of them has had a very special partner already on their teams, to support them in their efforts, and that brings a surprise element into the storytelling which is a lot of fun.
This story will appeal to kids who are interested in STEM in general, and space exploration in particular.
Jet is an amazing little girl!!! Jet, Jordy and Da Vinci work together to make it Mars!! This book is GORGEOUS!!! I absolutely love the illustrations – sooooo colorful! A digital copy of Ready, Set Mars was generously provided by NetGalley, Katie Jaffe, Jennifer Lawson in exchange for an honest review.
🚀 This story features two kids, a frog, and a snake who are super interested in space. Throughout the story we learn a little bit about science principles such as thrust, geometry, force, propulsion, prototypes, linear paths, and more. The STEM information presented is quite simplified, more like introducing vocabulary words rather than explaining the concepts. I can appreciate any book that introduces young readers to scientific concepts, but I would have loved a little more detail.
🚀 Readers will also learn that combining talents and working together can help achieve a common goal.
🚀 The story is written in verse. I found the verse a bit awkward to read. There were cadence shifts that threw me off. The information is good, but I would have preferred the story if it hadn’t been in verse.
🚀 Any young reader interested in space, space travel, or exploring will probably enjoy this book. And you get to see a snake and a frog in an astronaut helmet! You can’t beat that!
Thank you @NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Surprisingly well-sustained rhyming couplets aid the reading of this short burst of positivity, as the STEM kid who likes rockets and the STEM kid who likes inventing and working things out set their sights on a Mars craft. OK, it's not one of the more realistic books out there, but the can-do spirit is large here, and science, maths and even failure are all celebrated as a necessity for progress.
I love space-themed book for kids and Ready Set Mars has a little girl that helps head the expedition. The pictures were very entertaining and it is written in verse. I myself am a poetry purist when it comes to syllables so that is the only thing that deterred me from loving this cute little book about space pioneering.
Thank you, Greenleaf Book Group, for the advance reading copy.
I love how meticulously detailed this story book is! The book talks about two siblings who are quite interested in space. I know that siblings behave like that but I really wish the older sister handles the situation better as it’s a book for very young children. But yes, the story does make the sister think about her actions and team up with her baby brother.
I love the illustrations and the writing. It will be fun to read this out loud.
I requested an advanced copy because my children love all things science, and I was really pulled in by the title and cover.
This is an adorable book and I love seeing children's books that still rhyme. The illustrations were phenomenal and really added some fun, especially for my youngest. It was a wonderful story showing imagination, with the use of STEM, can make very real things.
Perfect for children who love space and creating things.
Educational book on how children think about space and different experiments they do and the imagery they create In their homes and backyard.
Ready, Set, Mars is a great book to show the importance of perserverence. I can see this being a good tool to discuss with a child many different topics. Such as: engineering, building, working together, accomplishing goals, failures, talents, and space science. Great for parents that want to focus on STEM activities with their children.
I enjoyed this book when reading with an elementary aged child. The sweet spot feels like grade 1-3 ish. The book is about a group of siblings who combine forces despite setbacks, to land on the moon. Overall Jet and Jordy and Da Vinci and Newton were a lovable group of characters that persevered, resolved differences and accomplished their goals.
At some point it felt like the story jumped in the storyline.... But eventually the reader catches on. I would reread this book as well as read others that follow.
Thank you to NetGalley, Greenleaf Book Group Press and the authors for the advanced electronic copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I was excited about this book, and so was my elementary school daughter, but we were unable to read it due to formatting issues. We tried on my kindle, on my laptop, and on an ipad. The pages don't convert. Maybe next time!
It says the review must be at least 100 characters long, but we were unable to read the book.
This book encourages children to never give up on their dreams and to overcome their failures. Furthermore, it shows them importance of teamwork and combining everyone’s talents to achieve something new and innovative. It is written with a nice rhyme and flow. This is a great book for children who are creative, like to challenge themselves, or simply like rocket ships, astronauts, and outer space.
Thank you to Greenleaf Book Group, Greenleaf Book Group Press and NetGalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A story of two siblings that love everything about space and have set their sights on traveling to Mars! I enjoyed the story, and teaching kids that dreams are worth pursuing is a valuable lesson that needs to be taught.
While the book is an excellent lesson about the importance of hard work and working together, the text could be a little tricky for younger readers.
Overall, the story worked well with fantastic illustrations. Congratulations to the author. If your child is interested in space, then Ready, Set, Mars is worth a closer look!
I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley.
My space-obsessed 4 year and I loved this! I particularly loved the female creator character Jet. The illustrations and “blueprints” were adorable!
Thank you so much to Greenleaf Book Group and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Jet and Jordy both want to go to mars, so start trying to create ways to get themselves up there. Inventing isn’t easy and the both reach some struggles but together and with imagination and determination they may reach mars.
This wasn’t exactly what I expected, I was thinking more of a sweet story of children playing pretend that they were on mars. However I still think what this story was was clever.
We see the children using lots of STEAM all their knowledge of science and scientists too, they each had a companion which was so funny. They were both very creative and came up with some incredible inventions to help aid them on their adventure to mars.
I really enjoyed the illustrations and seeing them progress in their inventions as they kept learning and trying to figure out more ways of making things work out how they wanted. Seeing them on mars and setting up their new lives with their friends was adorable.
Though this wasn’t exactly what I thought, I did like it, it was a sweet story told with a rhyming style and repetitive parts. It had great story progression and was a wonderful science but imaginative book. I think if you have a child that loves science or space or creating things this would be really great for them and they’d enjoy it.
Ready, Set, Mars is great read for little space lovers and for siblings. My boys loved this one—they were chanting "Ready, Set, Mars!" along with me by the end!
This is a cute rhyming book with engaging pictures. It took almost halfway through the book to get to the Mars part. It is good to have imagination, but I don't think the title went along with the story. It was not what I thought it would be.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of "Ready, Set, Mars". All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I did enjoy the story. I liked how the pictures were vibrant and showed math and discussed scientists.
I was not a fan of how the story kept the kids little the entire book. This is me being picky, but it takes so many years to become and astronaut. Yes, shoot for the stars and let the kids dream. I get it, I teach kindergarten. I just wished it was realistic in that regard. I was also not super pleased with how the brother got involved in the beginning. He destroys her things and then they work together. Have we ever seen a brother and sister. They would not be talking with each other if they happened.
This a great science book for kids! I loved that it featured problem solving and working together. I think it is a great book to talk about space and some of the things needed. The artwork was eyecatching and bright. This would make a great addition to a children's library. Thank you Netgalley.
