I loved this witch story, especially in time for October! This was amazing and I loved the characters and how well-written they were! This was so good and I can not wait for more from this author!

I love this book, when I was younger I was obsessed with the series a circle of three and this really gave me all the same feelings I had when I read those books for the first time. It's when I knew I loved fantasy books.

I gave this one a chance, but I had to DNF it. I just couldn't get into it. Right book, wrong time maybe? Wrong book for me? Not sure. Definitely love the representation and the plot summary. Maybe I'll give it a chance again sometime.

According to the locals Haelsford Florida is a bad place as it is a cursed town. There is a school for witches. Logan has just arrived for that school. She is immediately taken under the wing of the infamous Three Red. The Three Red compose of are: Iris, a dead witch, Thalia, a talented greenwitch, and Jailah, one of the most extraordinary witches at the academy. With “The Haunting” approaching, wolves will come from the swamp to kill humans and witches. They must work together to stay alive. Will they? Two boys from Hammersmitt School prepare to make their first sacrifices to the witches in exchange for protection from the wolves. Students start turning up dead. Iris, Thalia,
Jailah, and Logan decide they must work together to kill the wolves. Will they be successful?

The author has written an intriguing story with bewitching prose and characters. There are multiple points of view which was confusing as I would go back to reading earlier chapters a few too many times. I did finally figured out whose point of view I was reading. I liked how the witches worked as a team. I also enjoyed the magic and power of the witches. It is a spooky novel.

Thank you NetGalley and the author for this arc. I am voluntarily giving my honest opinion on this.

Queer, small towns, witches, and curses are what drew me into this book. I would say it partially delivered. It was not bad by any means, however, there are a lot of characters in this book. I also was not a fan of how the only focus is on healing the town, please handle your personal problems too!! The multiple pov did throw me off a bit and while each character has their own voice they feel a little lackluster. Hopefully future books will fix that. Overall I would say it is still a worthwhile read especially in spooky season!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Haunting Season has just started. Logan, a deathwitch, moves to Haelsford, Florida to get a grip on her powers. She is enrolled in Mesmortes Coven Academy where she meets and gets in the good graces of the infamous Red Three: Iris, Jailah and Thalia.

This book was fun to read and I was thoroughly engaged. The multiple pov’s is so great in this. Each of the main characters are allowed to have a voice and as it’s written it’s not confusing and the character’s don’t overpower each other. While I do have my favorites that’s doesn’t mean the others were lackluster.

Thank you Scholastic, Scholastic Pres, Colored Pages Book Tour and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Netgalley review, possible plot points mentioned below

This book is so unbelievably good, the only reason I didn't read it any faster was because I started school around the time I received this on netgalley. Every time I had to put this book down and go into work was agony because it was always when something major was about to happen.

I love and enjoy all of the characters, I don't think there's a single one that I hate (maybe becky, I'm not sure). I have a slight less connection with Logan and Trent at points but I think it fits with the plot and what was happening with them throughout. The red three (four) have my heart, so does Matthew and Theo (yes even him).

I loved following along with the mystery, I love when a book can take me by surprise with its twist, I feel like so many books become so predictable but I never saw what was coming in this.

The plot, the characters, the world building, everything, were so very good I can't even find the words to explain. I like how the magic varies from each character and watching Logan find her place. I love watching Trent and Matthew finding their part in the story and how they connect with the witches.

My only critique is the very ending got a little fast and I am very curious about the addition of Becky's part at the very end.

This was a really interesting story with deep magic and a great plot. I think the characters really came to life, though I do think the tether business made some insta-love plots easier to write for the author. The insta-love plots also made for some interesting choices made by the characters. Ultimately the story was worth putting up with the insta-love components.

The witchery S. Isabelle is a wonderfully paced coming of age story with dark witchy vibes and stellar character work . This is the perfect read for those who love the spooky season and want to start a new series .

The Witchery is full of fascinating world building and messy characters, and I loved the reveal of truths. I think this did a lot of interesting things, and the magic is especially intriguing. Im very much looking forward to reading the sequel because there are so many ripples that are going to play out as consequences of the actions of Logan, Jailah, Iris, Thalia, Trent, and Mathew. And that epilogue! And the scene with Death! I got questions and I would like answers, please!

This dark coming-of-age story is set in a magical boarding school in Florida. To break the town's curse, these young witches learn to manage their powers, work together, and the importance of trust and sisterhood.

What an incredible story of magic and the bonds of friendship!

Four witches, two mundanes, and the most intense Haunting season yet. Every year, the Haunting comes and with it, death. Four witches are determined to stop it by any means necessary. Even if it means teaming up with non-magical boys and raising the dead.

Loved this story. Read it all in one day because I just had to know what happened next! I'm definitely interested in reading the next book, especially with that ending!

Debut, YA, witchy!

Except for the swamp in the forest around the boarding school, I'd think this was set in New England, near Salem Massachusetts - but it's Florida. The school is Mesmortes Coven Academy, whose witchy students are in an uneasy truce with the Mundanes in town. Both groups are tormented by the annua Haunting, when giant Wolves attack both groups.

Four of the witches, and two of the town boys team up in an unlikely group to try to defeat the Wolves, each reaching deep into powers and character traits that both help and hurt them. I believe this is a duology, because the story isn't over at the end. I'm eager to read the next one!

Recommending for middle school and high school library acquisition

Captivating and fast paced. This had all the feel of a classic witch story, but with modern and diverse characters. I kept thinking, as I was reading it, what a great book-to-screen adaptation this book would make. I do hope to see it done one day.

I will note that this book did start out a bit rocky for me. There was a lot of information and characters right out of the gate. It felt like a bit of an information overload. But once I got it all sorted, it was a pretty smooth read.

A very good debut, that's perfect for the witching season.

This is a wonderful book. Many diverse voices from different backgrounds. This is a multiple point of view book so be sure to remember that. This is part one of the series. You will find yourself engrossed. You'll have your favorites and some characters you side eye.

Ready for part 2.

I liked that there was some diversity in the characters, and that we got many POVs to hear everyone’s perspectives. However, I feel like the plot stumbled a bit and some of the key concepts needed more careful planning and execution.

I read an eARC of The Witchery by S. Isabelle. Thank you, NetGalley and Scholastic press.

I’m not sure why I got it, because this book came out a year ago, but thank you!

This is a book about a group (you could call it a coven, though I don’t think the book ever does) of extremely talented witches from a prestigious witch school, who recruit a “baby” (just got her powers) witch into their group of friends, since she could be the key to ending the Haunting Season. The Haunting Season is when the “Wolves” awaken. These aren’t true wolves, but the familiars of witches long since dead that cast a curse upon the town the school is in that every year, the wolves will rise out of the marsh and slaughter everyone in town.

The witches of the school have found a way to lessen the massacre. Every year they put up a ward that will keep the town safe, as long as they don’t walk past it. The problem is that every year, people find themselves going to the swamp, and are murdered anyway.

These witches, for their own reasons, all want to bring an end to this.

This book is told from a lot of different points of view. We start with the baby witch and her setting the scene as well as some of her backstory, and then we bounce between the other girls in the coven. Their view on what’s happening as they progress the plot and their backstories. We even get two perspectives from two rich boys from the all-boys school who start their weaving into the plot by picking the gift their school will give the witches to thank them for warding their town another year.

Honestly, while the plot was interesting, I found the multiple perspectives to be too much. It made the story, to me, feel too jerked around, and ruined what could have been dramatic moments by telling us information too quickly while we were following certain characters around.

If you like getting to know what is happening from every perspective, then I think this book will be for you.

Can’t go wrong with a black witch story. Gave me twitches vibes in the best way possible. A perfect fall read.
