Cape Rage by Ron Corbett is a fast paced story about an agent named Danny Barrett who finds himself embedded with a criminal family on an island. He is trying to solve a bank safe deposit box robbery. The FBI suspects the family of the crime.
The adult daughter is married to a man who is also from a crime family. They live on the island. Danny befriends her and finds out that her father killed her husband for taking something of his. All of the people seem to be psychopaths.
We do not find out what all this means until Danny makes plans with the daughter. Danny has some talents that help him to stay alive but they may not be enough for this job. It is stressful and Danny finds himself in more deeply than he anticipated.
The story keeps readers guessing with surprises and twists. The suspenseful ending makes all the tension worth it.

Cape Rage is a sucker-punch of a thriller that comes out of nowhere laced with somber dilemmas and vicious beatdowns and topped off with a fast pace to keep the readers hooked from the get-go. It’s a bona-fide crime thriller in that it disgusts you with its brutality and impresses you with its surprising change of tone in those bright moments that offset the darkness of this world.

Danny Barrett is an undercover cop who is called in after a bank robbery. His assignment brings him to an island in the Pacific northwest, where a crime family has been operating for years. The Danby’s daughter married Henry Carter, who was shot and left for dead after the robbery.
Except it turns out he’s not dead, and he’s coming for revenge. The story alternates between Barrett’s and Carter’s POVs, which helps build suspense with the twists and turns of dealing with criminals who clearly have bad intentions and other characters who may be (mostly) good folks, but their motivations aren’t clear.
NetGalley provided an advance copy of this novel, which RELEASES MARCH 19, 2024.
This book kept me on the edge of my set! Interesting, believable characters, fast-moving plot, interesting twists -- this book has it all. The main character could be Jack Reacher's cousin and it's fun to follow him through the story and see the plot unfold through his eyes. Great read!
Thank you Berkley Publishing,NetGallery and author Ron Corbett for the opportunity to read Cape Rage,an arc ebook. I really enjoyed this different type of crime story. It had many interesting characters that were easy to follow, some outright evil and crazy, others just afraid and following orders and a dysfunctional father and his son and daughter. The mystery revolves around a bank heist in San Francisco and what was so important to steal from a safety deposit box. I would enjoy other books with the same main FBI undercover character,Danny Barrett.
