Wow, a wonderful book that combines informative and educational facts about a wide range of historical characters with eye catching illustrations to make it fun and accessible. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and know it would be great to have on. KS2 class bookshelf .

Hear Our Voices by Radhika Natarajan & Chao Tayiana is a book about the history of the British Empire and also those that protested and resisted. I liked that this was both informative and also that they were people talked about that I didn't know about. The illustrations were beautiful and I felt that they added to the story.

A well presented book which is easy to read. The illustrations add to the engagement in the text as do the real life stories which highlight how the British empire affected different people throughout the world. I liked the introduction and summarising at the start and end respectively. The glossary is very useful. I did feel in places the stories were overly simplified.

I was born and brought up in a former British colony, so I wanted to read it the moment I saw it. I am not saying that the book is biased but the way it is written makes it less suitable as an informative book for children. Writers of history books should refrain from using emotive language such as "terrible". I am not saying that it was not terrible but vocabulary choice needs to be less subjective and all such claims need substantiation with facts. Whilst I understand that what is described as "terrible" in the book could well be "terrible" and hence may be too graphic to be presented to younger children who are the target audience of this book, we still need facts to back claims up.

I love learning about the history of the British empire and I loved how it was fit into a children’s book that was easy to read and follow. I found the illustrations to be engaging and articulate and the content easy enough for all ages to understand.

I liked it! It's really informative about different types of fights against the british empire. Some people were more famous but others I didn't know about, like Anna Mahase (and her fight for education), Lakshmibai (a Queen and warrior), Te Rangitopeora. The book has a glossary about especific terms, like pan africanism, and words. The illustrations are great too and helps in the reading.process.
