When we first meet Di Jane Phillips she is recently demoted, relying too much on self-medication with alcohol, and her friends and colleagues are worried that she doesn't have insight into her condition. A series of apparently random murders bother her, and she's pressed for results.
As the first four in the series unfold, she investigates serial killers, kidnap/abduction, and suicide, and her own problems recede - or do they?

There are themes of violence against people (mainly women), and child abuse, and some people may find how they are portrayed distressing. I found the willingness to tackle the themes laudable, but for me it all lacked the character development for protagonist and team that is necessary for a truly satisfying police procedural series.

I really liked this series. I enjoy he British police settings in books as well as TV. These stories were perfect for me.

Super stoked that not only did I enjoy reading all 4 in order and back to back, that there are a load more in the series!
Love the main character, DCI Jane Phillips, I think the writing is really well done.
Excellent books if you a fan of police procedural novels, also Uk based which is a big yes for me.
These books tick a lot of boxes for me! Ordering book 5 now….

I Have read others in the series and was pleased to have the opprtunity to read the first books. I lIke the main detective, Jane and her team and their interaction is interesting and believable. The setting, in and around Greater Manchester , is an area I know well and I can picture the locations . The crimes are well written with enough information to allow the reader to puzzle along with the detectives without too much being spelt out . The crimes are not too graphically described but seem well researched and the pieces gradually piece together .

DCI Jane Phillips investigates the case of several women who have recently drowned in the canals in Manchester. She doesn’t believe the deaths to be accidental and soon discovers that each victim had a similar bruising on their neck. Is she up against a serial killer?
Jane must determine the killer’s pattern so she can find the culprit before anyone else turns up dead. Can she solve the case without putting herself in danger?

Book 3 – Deadly Vengeance

Finished reading the four books. They were very intriguing and I hope to read the next books in the series. They have everything in it such as suspense, intrigue, murder, serial killers, great police work and twists and turns. The plots were interesting and had me reading until the very ending. If you love suspense with psychological thriller then you will love these books.

Having got a couple of the later books in this series I was eagre to read these earlier ones. It was superb reading each book back to back and since finishing this box set I have read book 5 and started book 6.
It has been superb getting stuck in to a new series. Reading them back to back has kept everything fresh and I have to say I have thouroghly enjoyed them.
I love that they are set in and around Manchester and knowing a lot of the areas in the books really adds to the reading experience.
Superb storylines, beliveable and gripping. Some thrilling twists and very likeable characters. This is a series I know I am going to enjoy continuing with.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading all four crime thriller stories in this box set about Detective Jane Phillips. All of them were fast-paced and kept my attention until I finished them. I'm looking forward to reading the next set of stories.

I have only read the first book so far, but I’m hooked.
Jane and her team Bov and Jones are joined by a new recruit Entwistle forced on them by DCI Brown, Jane’s immediate superior.
Racing against time to catch a killer Entwistle has to decide which kind of a cop he wants to be.
Really good read.

Interesting and likable characters! These were pretty good police procedural and I would be interested in reading more of these books in the future.

For Jane Tennison fans, there is a new Jane on the scene, albeit not quite as depressed or deeply alcoholic as the "original" Jane.

Honestly, if you enjoy police procedurals with strong female leads who are equal parts heroine and human, you need to check out this series! I got volumes 1-4 to review, which I read solidly over a weekend, and then I went to the online bookstore to buy the next four installments.

Skilled writing with excellent mysteries, readers are sure to enjoy this series.

Book One in this Box set is Deadly Silence (4 Stars)

This is a Police Mystery/Suspense, and this is the first book in the Detective Jane Phillips series. I loved how real the characters felt, and I enjoyed getting to know all the characters in this book. The mystery in this book had me guessing and sitting on the edge of my seat. I could not put this book down, and I really loved the reveal.

Book Two in this Box set is Deadly Waters (5 Stars)

This is a Police Mystery/Suspense, and this is the second book in the Detective Jane Phillips series. I loved the characters in this book, and I loved seeing how the team worked together and had each other's backs. This book was paced very well, and I could not put this book down. I loved all the twists and turns this book had, and I also loved all the action in this book. I really did not guess who did it, and I loved the reveal. The end of this book was so great.

Book Three in this Box set is Deadly Vengeance (4 Stars)

This is a Police Mystery/Suspense, and this is the third book in the Detective Jane Phillips series. This book is so well done. This book pulled me in, and I did not want to put this book down. I really loved the end of this book, and I loved the teenage girl in this book. The suspense in this book was a slow build up, and the action was all at the end. I really loved all the police work in this book.

Book Four in this Box set is Deadly Betrayal (3 Stars)

This is a Police Mystery/Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the Detective Jane Phillips series. I love the characters in this book. I did not love the storyline in this book. I just could not get totally into the story/case that was going on in this book. I did love all the Police work in this book.

I've only read one book in this series, the latest one Deadly Justice and really enjoyed it. So when the first 4 books in OMJ Ryan's Jane Phillips series came up for request I thought I should read these books right from the start.

I thoroughly enjoyed these four books. I really like the main character and her work colleagues and love their rapport, work banter and found I cared for them and was rooting for them to solve the cases they were investigating. Each book was well written, flowed smoothly and soon became very absorbing and thrilling reads. The author certainly grabbed my attention and interest from the very first page and held it right until the end of the fourth book. I loved the little snippets into the characters home and personal lives and liked their character development over time. If you like good, solid crime and police procedurals I would recommend this author and series and don't think you will be disappointed. I will definitely read books 5-8 when I have time so can catch up fully with this very good and enjoyable series.

This is the first time I read this author and I hesitated a bit before tackling a whole serie of 4 books, and I don't regret it ! Following Detective Phillips has been a rollercoaster of adrenaline and emotions. She is fearless and would do anything for justice for the victims. I am impatient to read the rest of the series and really really hope it's not who I think that will be back on scene.

Another good detective series, covering some common and topical themes. Mostly likeable characters who I became more invested in as the series went on. I'm glad I had read books 1-3 before I came to book 4 as I felt this was the weakest book in the series, too far fetched and sewn up too quickly against what would have been some really series world wide criminals. Having said that, I liked learning more about the main characters in book 4 so that part was good. I still feel like there is a lot more background we could learn on the main group, and I will definitely read the rest of the books in the series, and I do want to read the book that introduces Phillips as I feel there are a lot of gaps having not read that on. A new author to me, but I will look out for more in future.

Well written detective story. I like the relationships between DI Jane Phillips and her team. Will certainly read the next one in the series.
