I have read other books by Anne Janzer and was not disappointed with this one. It is a workbook full of practical exercises to help you discover your voice as a writer. Many of the exercises were new to me and they are all easy to understand and implement. The book is aimed at beginners but I would also recommend it to more seasoned writers as often, more experience can result in less attention given to the basics of writing, so perhaps everyone can learn a thing or two from this book and improve their craft.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this ARC.

Clearly Structured..
Finding your voice as a writer is explored in this relatively short volume of helpful tips, advice and exercises and part of The Writers Process Series . It has been nicely and clearly structured to provide a twelve section/week writing course. Helpful at all levels although particularly beneficial for a new writer in either fiction or non fiction alike.

Many thanks to the author publisher and Netgalley for a free ARC of this ebook.

A very helpful book for budding writers and those with experience. It gives detailed instructions on developing ones own voice. There are exercises to help and it's well worth the effort doing them.
Well recommended.

I've read other of Anne Janzer's guides and like those, THE WRITER'S VOICE is concise, clear, and actionable. As a veteran writer, I learned a great deal, wishing often that I'd had this guide before I had the pleasure of using such useful, smart insight by doing it wrong. I'd suggest this guide to any writer of fiction or nonfiction as a way to communicate with your best voice. The exercises, guidance, and examples were excellent. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

I’m a writer and editor who works with new writers and ghostwriter projects on a daily basis, which often require a unique voice and near constant adaptability. As a lifelong learner, I picked up this book to both expand my knowledge and to discover fresh new ways to nurture my skills and guide new writers. This book claimed to provide tools to tune and transform your writing voice, and I found it lived up to this goal in a unique and inviting way. Lots of ideas and takeaways to implement! As always, dedication and practice are key — I skipped around and skimmed the surface, but I’m inspired to thoroughly give this a go. These tools don’t expire. 😉

There were a few things I enjoyed about this book.

The workbook has quite a few walk throughs and examples to help make the information more relevant to the reader.
And it is written in an easy-to-follow dialog.

The 2☆ rating is because it felt overly simplified to me and I didn't feel like I truly got enough help in finding my writer voice.

Thank you, Netgally for the early review of this work!

I love writing. I loved writing since I was a child.

I also love books that help with writing - doesn’t matter if it’s about plotting, revising, editing.
But I always looked for a book or some tips to help me improve the way of my writing, my writing style.

This book is full of great exercises to improve your writing in any way - punctuation, emotion, distance etc.
You can use it as a 12 week exercise or use the ones you think are important to you or need improvement.

12 week course:
Week 1 - Listen to the inner reader
Week 2 - Pick words that pack a punch
Week 3 - Track the punctuation
Week 4 - Find your sentence rhythm
Week 5 - Compose paragraph patterns
Week 6 - Readability
Week 7 - State your intentions
Week 8 - You as a fictional character
Week 9 - Presence or absence
Week 10 - Relating to the reader
Week 11 - Your tone, their mood
Week 12 - Moving closer with emotion

All in all this book is definitely a recommendation!

This book is filled with examples, advices and exercises. As a writer, you will find that some appeal to you and others don't, which is okay, because each one has its own process. And that was true for me. So this is the kind of book that will be helpful if you need to exercise some parts of your writing.

This is a relatively slim workbook that presents twelve aspects of a writer's 'voice' (word length, punctuation, vocabulary etc) and exercises to explore them. However, there is little detailed follow-up on how and when the different choices of these elements have been, or might be, used.

For a fiction writer, the twelve aspects create a framework that could be useful for analysing the work of a writer you wish to emulate. But the content is primarily applicable to 'beginner' non-fiction writers of blogs, reports, articles and so on.

I teach writing at a midwestern university, and while I would not use this as a primary text in a class, as a supplemental text, it would catch students' imagination, for sure.

This book is a great companion to any writer looking to gain a reader's attention, and with twelve various exercises that help you focus on pacing your writing, plot, grammar, punctuation, style...it has everything that any writer looking to carve a distinct voice would need.
I also love the fact that each chapter is outlined in the very beginning, so you can also choose which areas of your writing you'd love to work on, if you have some experience writing and have received feedback on areas that need improvement.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.
