This is a great book for introducing and understand Green Witchcraft. When I was first learning, this would have been an amazing resource! There is a lot of very useful and understandable beginning information and more than half of the book is basically recipes for self-care through green witchcraft!
I’m pretty sure I not only love everything in this book, I love everything Green Witch. Autumn Willow has skillfully spelled out the Green Witch connection with nature, sustainable practices, and healing rituals imbued with sacred magic. Plus, the Self-Care focus of this book boosted my interest into the love level and beyond. The practices are simple, approachable and implementable while maintaining their purpose and magical intent. A few of my favs include the Emotional Healing Water ritual, the Organization mantra and talisman, and the Fire Cider. Highly recommend!
This book is really informative and if you are new to this then it’s a really detailed guide which is easy to understand. It isn’t just for those practicing Wicca, it’s for any with an interest in self care.
Lots of tips and things to consider throughout. I particular liked the key points at the end of each section, made it easy to look back on a section without re-reading the whole thing.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC
I loved that this book talked about decolonization, and that even though it identifies itself as a secular practice manual, it still address the connection between mind, body, and spirit. The artwork is very pretty, and the information is easy to take in. There are lots of ideas for practices, but this is seems very much geared toward beginners. Overall a good introductory/refresher book!
This was a good book that focused on tangible self-care - not just capitalistic or colonized forms of the concept. I liked how the author explained all the concepts and emphasized that healing and self-care practices take time. The first part of this book was a good primer on green witch concepts, and the second part is a good series of spells focused on self-care. I do really like that the author emphasized reaching out to a licensed therapist for spells focusing on more mental-health aspects of self-care.
Thank you for providing me the opportunity to review "The Green Witch's Guide to Self-Care”. I am appreciative and leave my sincerity review voluntarily.
"The Green Witch's Guide to Self-Care" by Autumn Willow is a delightful and informative journey for beginners in green witchcraft. The author's relatable and down-to-earth writing style makes reading a joy. Willow's emphasis on self-care extending to one's home and community provides a balanced perspective.
The book offers 55 remedies and rituals using easily accessible ingredients, such as herbs, crystals, and essential oils, making it practical for readers to start their practice. Willow's detailed explanations of green witchery and magical items add depth to the content.
What sets this book apart is the author's acknowledgement that magic is not a quick fix, but a complement to hard work. She skillfully blends spirituality and self-care. The key takeaways at the end of each chapter make it even clearer.
Moreover, the encouragement to grow herbs and natural ingredients fosters a deeper connection with nature. While the illustrations are beautiful, more of them throughout the book would enhance the experience and I would improve the cover.
"The Green Witch's Guide to Self-Care" guides those beginning their journey into green witchcraft and seeking a more earth-friendly, spirituality-based path. With practical advice, this book will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for new green witches.
Thanks to NetGalley and Callisto Media for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. ✨
I was already looking forward to this book just based on the title, but honestly? The blurb doesn’t do this book justice at all. And I could tell that within minutes of starting to read this book.
Willow clearly knows her stuff, and starts out by detailing her own experiences, and how witchcraft relates to self-care in a world that often feels focused on keeping us going and being productive 24/7. One of the most important things she talks about in this section is the definition of self-care. It’s something that so many of us hear on a regular basis, but rather than just limiting self-care to mind, body, and spirit, she also expands it to include home and community. I liked that she included the systems that we are situated within, since imbalance in these areas should also be addressed in self-care.
This isn’t the kind of book you have to read start to finish, although that is what I did in the interest of providing a review. Instead, you can read the section that serves you when you need to. There’s a part that explains what green witchcraft is, how to use it as self-care, and gives a quick summary of the various tools and ingredients that are used in green witchcraft. Then it’s onto the different practices.
One thing that I especially loved is the way the author consistently emphasizes that magic isn’t a quick fix. While the spells in the book are a great way to address various issues and practice self-care, there’s also hard work that goes into taking care of some of the other issues. If we’re talking about a headache, then the remedy offered in this book is the kind that’ll work without any extra assistance. But if we’re talking about anxiety, the author mentions how the remedies can assist the hard, mundane work of therapy. I love when a book like this merges the more spiritual treatments with the scientific ones to provide the most benefit to people.
Speaking of benefit, there are so many great spells, rituals, and remedies in this book. They are made with ingredients that are relatively easy to source, and since green witches work with natural ingredients, the author also talks about growing your own herbs in a garden or window boxes. The idea of using natural ingredients, including those that we can grow ourselves.
This is the kind of book that makes me want to start trying out spells immediately, and I love the down-to-earth and sensible tone of the author. But my favorite part of the book was at the end, and I noticed that she cited peer-reviewed sources to back up her claims throughout the book. This is definitely one of those high-quality books that I’ll be referring to many times in the future.
The author explains the uses and methods of green witchery and the magical items used to practice. Candle color, incense, teas, spices, crystals, essential oils, flowers, and even trees, and houseplants are included in detail. This book is a must-read for those who are beginning their journey on a more earth-friendly, spirituality-based path. I would recommend it.
I always love picking up books like this. I like find new ways or things for self care.
This has some really interesting recipes and ideas. Some I've heard of, some I do a different way and some that I'm going to give a try. Definitely worth picking up.
