I’ve never believed in coincidences. What I believe is that everything unfolds at the perfect timing, driven by a specific reason whether we realised it in the exact moment or discover it later — Just like this book did in my life.
The book found its way into my hands just before life took an unexpected turn beyond my expectations. In early December, I discovered I was pregnant after waiting for nearly 4 years with my husband. But then, it hurt so much that the joy didn’t last; I had a miscarriage a couple of weeks later. My world crumbled in an instant. And there, silently nestled on my Kindle, was this book, attempting to accompany me and offer comfort.
As I read it, it feels like finding a warm and caring good friend who doesn’t speak much, but every word that comes from them is meaningful. This book felt like a gentle stroke on my back, a loving hug to my wounded self.
Haemin Sunim shares stories about unexpected flaws and turns in his life, illustrating how he overcame the hurts and uncertainties, and the lessons he learned from them.
Like all his other works, this book is light but meaningful to me. It’s the kind of book to savor slowly, absorbing all the comfort and advice it offers. Perfect for coffee table books!
Sunim talks about a broad story in this book; there are some parts that I feel don’t add up to each other, but it can still be useful for life advice.
Drawing on Zen Buddhist philosophy and Sunim’s own experiences, When Things Don't Go Your Way helps you navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace. This book is exactly that. I read this while going through a difficult time in my life and found this so useful! Highly recommend!
