Lady Brighe MacDonald is sick of the lack of freedom she has because of her brother, James. James is many times referred to as the Devil and is mortal enemies with Tormund MacLeod. Tormund, also known as “Demon of the Seas” is on a mission to right the wrong if his brothers death when he meets Brighe. As they get to know one another and realize they should hate one another, they can’t because they’re too far in love. Their only hope is the acceptance of their love by their clans.
A Highland Rogue to Ruin is absolutely everything I would expect of a Highlander Romance! E. Elizabeth Watson weaves together family feud, a mystery, a bonny lass who is a bit too reckless, secrets and sensuality to create this fast paced romance that is sure to tick all your boxes! Watson's writing is clear and evocative. I felt transported back into an idealistic image of this time period and was charmed watching this romance grow between two people who should be enemies but upon first meeting and unknowing gave a bit of themselves to the other. This novel is both fun and intriguing, keeping the reader easily engaged from page one to the end. I found that both the hero and heroine were well developed and people who were interesting and easy to root for. This novel is the first I have read by Watson and it is sure not to be my last. If you love Highland romances than do not sleep on this novel, do yourself a favor and pick it up today!
I tried so hard to love it, but it just wasn't the book for me.
The beginning and ending were decent, they had an instant connection that they acted on pretty quickly in terms of being intimate, but I understood their perspective.
The heroine was cloistered away in the castle for nearly all her life, she didn't have any kind of freedom due to her protective brother, while on the other side, the hero was condemned everywhere, tales of his savagery and betrayal making everyone give him a wide berth wherever he went.
They basically embodied what the other wanted. She loved the freedom of choosing someone and liked the tales he told her of his travels and family, while he fell in love with her intelligence, loving nature and acceptance.
After they realized the true identity of the other, the storyline flattened. It was just scene after scene of intimate excursions, stories of the past told in whispers and basically being intimate.
It got super boring to read the same thing happening again and again, even if new information was revealed about their shared past. At some point, I found myself just skimming to see how it would all resolve.
Sadly, I didn't like it.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. If you loved Romeo and Juliet but wanted a happy ending then this will be a great read for you. The characters are loveable.
I loved this book and read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! A new to me author that I am already looking at other titles from her … love her writing style!
This is the story of Brigdhe MacDonald and Tormund MacLeod and these two are perfect together. I loved the way we get to see their relationship develop and watch them fall in love. Tormund is “the sea devil” a broody highlander who has to fight on a daily basis both to survive and to help his clan survive. Nothing has ever been easy for Tormund. Then he meets the sister of one of his worst enemies, James MacDonald, and he is instantly drawn to her. Brigdhe has lived her life under the rule of her younger brother and she has all but given up having a love of her own or her own child. Then at the Lughnasadh Highland Festival Brigdhe meets, flirts with, kisses, and eventually gives herself to a sexy man who makes her feel things she never expected to experience. It’s not until the deed is done that she realizes she has cavorted with the enemy. 🔥❤️🔥
These two have a lot of hurdles to get past before they can achieve their happily ever after and it seems someone is dead set against the MacDonald & MacLeod clans being joined together. So not only do our MCs have to get past the immediate conflict between Laird James MacDonald & Laird Tormund MacLeod, there are also secrets being kept and outside forces trying to prevent the MCs relationship. This tension sets up the perfect forbidden lover trope!
I really enjoyed every aspect of this story.
BTW - Look at that sexy cover - where can I find a highlander like him? ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Far out, I loved it! This was my first read in the highland romance genre, and to be honest, I tend to struggle with a lot of romance. You need to be in a certain mood to swallow the romance formula, filled with Instalove and manufactured drama.
But this was refreshing. We got to see a genuine flirtation unfold between Brigdhe and Tormund, with mutual attraction, interest, and respect. And the stakes were real - power and wealth make people do terrible things. But love and fear are strong motivators too. Brigdhe was a wonderful, brave heroine who overcame it all. The men have a lot to learn from her example!
I worry when US-based writers set a book outside the US, but in this case, I needn’t have worried because this author can actually research and write for ‘place’ rather than for a US audience. That’s a weird thing to say, but it can get cringey when authors try to go international with their storytelling without doing it right.
Sooooo next time I’m in the mood for romance, I’d happily turn to another E Elizabeth Watson story.
This was a new author for me and I really enjoyed this one! I thought the story line was great and the characters too! Brighde and Tormund were perfectly matched. Both of their families are enemies too! I think that just adds more to the story for these two overcome to their HEA! I enjoyed the whole story and dynamic! All in all a good read!
Sex on legs (and that's just the cover!!)
I've not read this author before and now I feel as though I have missed out on something, I really, really, really enjoyed this one. I loved the story, the enticing and sexy banter, the tantalising romance and the glorious characters. I thought at times it was a little slow on certain scenes but the captivating story and sexy times made up for it.
Definitely a must-read!
I loved this. I was hooked and simply entwined into this story. I needed this historical romance. It filled all the nooks and crannies of my Scottish loving heart!
I just reviewed A Highland Rogue to Ruin by E. Elizabeth Watson. #AHighlandRoguetoRuin #NetGalley

A Highland Rogue to Ruin by E. Elizabeth Watson is a fantastic enemy to lover's story.
Set in 1547 in the Scottish Highlands highlights two feuding families or should I say clans.
The characters are well developed and true to time and place.
The action is wonderful. The love story is fantastic.
Very much enjoyed this story.
A Highland Rogue to Ruin by E. Elizabeth Watson
This is a tale of two families that had a chance to create peace and forge an alliance, but something went wrong, and a feud was born instead. There is always hope for peace and the feud to stop but to have that happen secrets need to be exposed…as does what really caused the feud in the first place.
What I liked:
* Tormund MacLeod: head of his clan, seeking revenge for the murder of his brother, wants to know the truth, has a secret, lethal in battle, strong, caring, a good leader, meets a lass that steals his heart when at a clan festival
* Brighde MacDonald: the laird’s sister, protected by her brother, wants to have more freedom, loves to dance, has dreams she is unsure she will ever see come to fruition, kind, caring, good at puzzles and games, horsewoman, meets a laird that steals her heart when at a clan festival
* James MacDonald: laird of his clan, Brighde’s sister, married and expecting his first child, wants revenge and to destroy those that he believes are guilty of his sister’s death, came around as secrets were known
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The festival events and the time it allowed for Tormund and Brighde to get to know one another
* That I could see this couple were perfect for one another
* The secret that Tormund was keeping and why he was doing so
* Finding out what who the bad guys were and the truth about what happened seven years before
* The conclusion and sailing off into the sunset
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how evil some people can be
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Fans of Scottish historical romances will swoon over E. Elizabeth Watson’s latest novel, A Highland Rogue to Ruin.
Tormund MacLeod has revenge on his mind. He wants to avenge the cruel murder of his brother and he will not rest until whoever is responsible pays dearly for taking his sibling’s life. The Laird of the MacDonald clan will feel Tormund’s wrath at this year’s Lughnasadh festival, however, the “Demon of the Seas” hadn’t counted on a beautiful vixen who had bewitched him the second he clapped eyes on her – only to discover that the woman who had got under his skin is his enemy’s sister, Lady Brighde MacDonald!
Brighde has long chafed at the claustrophobic shackles which her brother had imposed upon her. She longs to break free from his over-protectiveness and when the opportunity presents itself, she wastes no time in seeking solace in the arms of a brawny Highlander whose muscular arms make her forget all about her brother’s watchful eye. Tormund Macleod could certainly turn any lass’s head, but he also happens to be the man who wants her brother dead! Brighde knows what she wants and is not prepared to let Tormund go. But with the two clans torn apart by conflict, dare she hope of a future with the man she has grown to love?
Can Brighde convince her brother and the man she hopes to spend the rest of her life with to lay down their swords and agree to a truce? Or will Tormund’s dangerous secret rip them apart forever?
E. Elizabeth Watson’s A Highland Rogue to Ruin is a passionate tale of feuding clans, illicit attraction and forbidden desire that sizzles with intensity, emotion and heart. A captivating historical romance with a strong-willed and resourceful heroine and a brooding Scottish hero, A Highland Rogue to Ruin will sweep readers back in time into a world full of adventure, jeopardy and romance.
A must-read for fans of Scottish historical romances, A Highland Rogue to Ruin is an immensely enjoyable tale by E. Elizabeth Watson.
I love a good enemies to lovers story and A Highland Rogue To Ruin certainly fits that trope. Set in the Scottish highlands in 1547, the story brings together two feuding clans, each with strong lairds who have fearsome reputations. Lady Brighde MacDonald is the younger sister of Marjorie MacDonald, who wed Owen MacLeod some years earlier as part of plans to establish peace between the two clans. As the story opens, we find that both Marjorie and Owen have been murdered, with Brighde’s younger brother, Laird Jamie MacLeod, blaming the MacLeods for his sister’s death. With castles having been stormed and fields burned, the mutual hatred is clear. Not only that bu Jamie has kept Brighde sheltered within his castle for years, refusing all offers of marriage with her. Brighde can’t wait to go with Jmie and his wife to take part in the
Royal Inverness Games and Lughnasadh Festival. Tormund MacLeod, known as the Demon of the Seas, is only there to win funds to stop his people from starving, but he can’t help indulging in a dance and more with Brighde at the maasked ball. These two are fiercely attracted to each other from the first, not only physically but also intellectually. I loved watching their romance unfold, and it is not a smooth path to true love. Both are strong characters. Neither likes to lose and both are fiercely loyal to their clans. Meanwhile, there’s a murderer on the loose and the hunt for the man responsible for so much heartache makes for an entertaining secondary thread to the story. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.
This was such an entertaining read! This was my first book by Elizabeth Watson & I absolutely loved her writing style and story building.
In this dual POV story, we get to know and fall in love with Tormund & Brighde - they are meant to be sworn enemies but, (surprise!) through their love, they find a way to save the day. I enjoyed the secrets and betrayal throughout this book - but watching Tormund and Brighde's love grow despite everything around them was just too sweet.
A big thank you to Entangled Publishing and the author for this ARC!
I appreciate this book. It was very good. It
kept me engaged. I was left out the loop or felt like I was missing information. The storyline always was clear. I truly enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters. I was about ti experience a range of emotions reading this book..
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author has done a fantastic job of crafting an engaging and thrilling story that is a perfect mix of drama, tension, emotion, heat, action, and heartfelt moments. From the very first page, I was drawn into the story and could not put the book down until I reached the end.
One of the things that I really appreciate about this book is the smooth writing style. The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, which makes it effortless to immerse yourself in the pages and get lost in the story. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and I found myself rooting for them throughout the book. Tormund and Brighde, in particular, have a chemistry that is exciting to read, and I enjoyed following their story.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling and engaging read that combines romance, suspense, and action. It is a real page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. So sit back, relax, and get lost in this amazing story. You won't be disappointed!
I love a good Scottish Highlander romance, and this book satisfies. Romance, historical fiction, the clans, the countryside. Reading this book was a wonderful respite in the day-to-day world. Tormund MacLeod and Brighde MacDonald create sparks and electricity when together, the only problem - the MacLeod/MacDonald feud. A forbidden romance wrapped up in some colorful and dramatic mystery surely makes this read worth your time and effort. Will they be able to avoid the coming war? A great read, worth the time to take a break in historic Scotland.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Highland Rogue To Ruin is a novel by E. Elizabeth Watson. This is the most exciting Scottish medieval romance I’ve read in a long time! This Romeo And Juliet-influenced romance brings enemies Tormund and Brighde together in a forbidden, whirlwind romance. Enemies within and without and a deadly secret threaten the couple’s burgeoning feelings. Tormund and Brighde must decide if they will risk everything for love.
Tormund and Brighde are in a clan war, and loss has been their constant companion. Tormund is fierce, scary, and oh-so-sexy! Brighde longs for freedom from her brother’s suffocating control. Both characters were raw and vivid; my heart ached for their pain and suffering. Tormund and Brighde’s connection is sensual and electric. The pages burned whenever they were together. The couple’s chemistry was perfection.
What impressed me most was the storyline. This was a very intricate, complex plot, yet it unfolded in a descriptive, vivid way that I was enthralled from the beginning. There were twists and turns I did not see coming. The backdrops were gorgeous. The plot moved perfectly and was fast-paced without losing the reader. This novel was the perfect blend of romance, action, and intrigue. I loved every minute of this book! I highly recommend A Highland Rogue To Ruin to any Scottish medieval romance lover!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
