This was my first book by the author and it did not disappoint!! It captivated me from that intriguing blurb all the way to the end when I was left wanting more. We have alternating chapters from the past and present, a neighborhood murder club, and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat at every turn of the page. And boy was I not expecting that ending!
Ruby is starting over fresh in a beautiful new development by the lake. She is hoping to finally put the past behind her but then her daughter disappears and her husband. When a body surfaces in the lake, everyone identifies it as Ruby's husband and points the finger at Ruby as the prime suspect, but Ruby is adamant that it's not him! Now she has to figure out why everyone thinks its her husband and prove her innocence?!
If I didn't have kids, I would have read this in one big sitting, it was that good! I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone and reading more from this author! I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!
Wow. Was this a debut? This book was truly captivating. By 30% in, I couldn’t put it down. It was told in alternating timelines, ‘then’ & ‘now’ which had a past mystery/murder along with the current mystery/ murder. You’re likely to figure the culprit in the old murder but the reveal of the current murderer knocked my socks off! And I empathized with Ruby, the protagonist, & enjoyed rooting for her. 4.5 solid stars!!
Don't Forget Me
A Thriller
by Rea Frey
Thank you to NetGalley for this advance copy.
This psychological thriller had timelines of "Then" and "Now" style parts. Good gosh, I could not leave this one alone. I read it and felt it. Not many books make me feel as if I am there. VERY well written.
This book was another fun to read book from the author. It was filled with much mystery and intrigue as you keep reading in order to discover who the killer is. In addition, there were a few interesting twists as the story wound down. This is a book I would recommend to those who like a good mystery.
This book opens with Ruby who is out rowing and finds a body in the lake, everyone is sure the body belongs to her husband…everyone except Ruby, the residents start pointing fingers at her, and Ruby thinks she is being set up. as more people get murdered, it becomes clear there is a serial killer in the neighborhood, meanwhile, the neighbors are playing Solve the Murder games for fun. She needs to prove to the police and the neighbors that it isn't her. This is a fast-turning page story with many twists and turns that will have you guessing until the end. I have to admit that this book exceeded my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was invested in the story and the characters from the first page all the way through until the last page. There is a then-and-now timeline was easy to follow, which makes the story more meaningful, and the ending surprising, choking, and just more amazing.
There's also the neighborhood online community gossip page, that brings a little humor. that sounds all too familiar.
A fantastic domestic thriller that kept me interested and guessing. I was hooked from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Don't Forget Me contained a little bit of everything from drama, lies, cheating, child trauma, mental illness, domestic abuse, and murder.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for providing an eARC of this book. I really enjoyed reading it. All opinions are my own.
I saw this as a Read Now on NetGalley and snatched it up. Did not disappoint!
Dead body in a lake, family secrets, neighborhood drama and domestic abuse. Secrets are slowly revealed through the "then" and "now" timelines and kept me hooked from the beginning. This was a fast paced read that had me quickly turning the pages. I absolutely loved the neighborhood murder club aspect of this book, the "murderlings!" What a great idea!
Recommend for mystery and suspense lovers! I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them as well. I can't wait to see what Rea Frey comes up with next. 4 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A big thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!
3.5 stars! I really liked the alternating timelines and I was constantly wondering what was up with the main character. I look forward to reading more books by this author. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
This book! I was figuring out the twist right as it was being revealed and my eyes popped out and my jaw dropped! Also... THAT ENDING!! I can't wait to buy a hard copy when it comes out!!
A missing person. Murder. An unreliable narrator. Dual timeline and crazy twists! Perfect! Binge read this in one day.
3.5 rounding up! This was a solid suspense and thriller and the reveal actually surprised me. I’m knocking off some points because I thought while the motive for the first murder was solid, every other murder was weak at best.
The story follows Ruby who is out rowing when she stumbles across a body. After the year she had with her daughter going missing and then her husband, the last thing she wants is to be involved with a murder investigation. However as the secrets in her neighborhood slowly come out, she realizes someone might be specifically targeting her and framing her for a murder she didn’t commit.
It’s a really fast read and it’s well done. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go. When the villain is revealed, I was so shocked but it made absolute sense. I just really struggled with the motives for all the other deaths and I felt like it lost the thread. Otherwise an excellent read.
4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ruby just wanted a fresh start. A retired nurse, Ruby and her family relocated to a wealthy, tight-knit community. But her fresh start quickly becomes a nightmare when first her daughter, Lily, disappears, and then her husband, Tom, too. Ruby tries to move on, befriending the neighbors and joining a murder club where they try to solve cold cases. But just as unexpectedly as her family vanished, a body floats to the surface of the nearby lake. And everyone in the neighborhood is sure the body belongs to Ruby’s husband, Tom. Everyone except Ruby.
I really enjoyed this book!! It had lots of qualities that I love in a book: chapters in the past and present, short chapters, an unreliable narrator, and lots of twists and turns. I wasn’t expecting the murder spree, which made the book more interesting than the snippet implies. I knocked off a star because and I thought the reason/culprit behind it wasn’t complete in a way. I wish there was a little more build up with that. I also didn’t like the bits with the community board.
Overall I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
THE ENDING!!!! Thank you Netgalley & Rea Frey for the opportunity to have an ARC for this suspenseful psychological thriller out Jan 2024. All of the secrets and twists had me hooked from the beginning. The character development was amazing. The then vs now timeline was so easy to follow & made the story more meaningful. A must read!
I felt easily immersed in the story because of the way it was organized toggling back and forth between then and now. The neighborhood forum also felt very reminiscent of challenging and anonymous narratives you find on social media platforms so it added humor, intrigue and a dose of reality. I'm eager to read everything by Rea Frey!
What an excellent thriller! This book had so many twist and turns I loved it and I didn't want to put it down! This books bounces back between past and present but is easy to follow along. This was my first Rea Frey book but I can promise you that it won't be my last!
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer Publishing, and Rea Frey for the ARC!
Great book with a great storyline however I feel there was no characters I was rooting for which I like in a book. Could be a bit slow at times however it did keep my attention.
I did guess the twist which was disappointing however it was still a good read and I enjoyed it.
Ruby is married to Tom, and has recently moved to an area he chose. She watched her mother being abused by her father, who was murdered, and her mother died in jail.
Lily, Ruby's stepdaughter disappeared, and shortly afterwards, Tom disappeared as well.
No one is aware that Ruby was an abused wife.
She is rowing on the lake, when a body literally pops up next to her boat, and is later identified as the body of her husband.
She, of course, is number one suspect for his murder.
This is the first novel I have read by this author, and I am keen to read more.
I was kept guessing for about 70% of the book before I twigged who was responsible for the spate of murders.
However, the book is fast paced, and definitely gripping.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book started off a little slow, but once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. It had me guessing who the killer was until the moment it is revealed. I’m pretty sure everyone was a suspect to me at one point. Definitely worth reading!
Thank you to NetGalley for this advance copy. Interesting story of an abused woman who's husband shows up dead. Of course she is the primary suspect. But she didn't do it. When her neighbors start to die, who could be the murderer?
Don't forget me was a gripping read. Regularly flipping from then to now, we learnt about the families secrets, with lots of surprises along the way, and a particularly surprising ending.
When a body floats to the surface in an exclusive, gated community, everyone in the community is quick to point fingers as to who did it. But when the body is one of the residents missing husbands, it makes it very easy for everyone to point fingers at the wife. The wife, whose teenage daughter also went missing months prior, casting her mental status into question. As more residents start to be murdered, it becomes clear there's a serial killer that is trying to blame a resident. A twisty, turny murder mystery that doesn't fall too deep into the annoying tropes. Definitely recommend!
